So you have to do the stupid little pedal dance all over again?

So let me get this straight. Lexus built a car with a brilliant chassis, a real drivers car then encumbered it with so many electronic nannies as to destroy any possible sporting outcome, tell the driver to gently caress off and neuter the chassis?

I've learned to listen/look for lane splitters in advance and move over to give them more space to pass. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqSVBwhKwl8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lI8Oav3WBKM :20 in the second video-that is the kind of courtesy all drivers should have towards bikers!

Unless you are going fast or going much faster than traffic, splitting is safer. I can't back that up with any evidence that's not anecdotal, so I'm not going to harp on it. But considering your other option is sitting still in traffic where you could easily get rear-ended or squished. Also bikes splitting means you're not taking up space means less congestion for everyone. Just my experience though.

I'm sorry but anyone driving as lovely as that really has no right to be upset at the fact that cars in traffic aren't looking for a vehicle with a tiny visual footprint going many times the speed of traffic. I really, really doubt this is the kind of behavior that was intended with lane splitting laws.

I've been splitting lanes for almost a decade now and so far the amount of near accidents will still fit on one hand. My trick is to always use your turn signals (or alarm lights if you have those) in adition to using your high beams when splitting. I also used to have a bike with an exhaust so loud it gave me headaches if I rode it for over an hour (89 CBR with a hollowed out Laser), this did have a noticable impact on traffic ahead :P. Other then that most exhausts are simply inaudible in front of the bike so I rely on light signals mostly. Speed ofcourse always is a factor but whatever speed is safe is debatable. Ofcourse i'm in The Netherlands so maybe wherever you live has more lovely cagers but I doubt it.
