Well, I can't link directly to youtube because I'm at work, but the video is here none the less. This is a Catheram R500 playing grab rear end with a Porsche GT2 on the Nurburgring. As the post says, he doesn't take all the right lines, adds a bit more than a touch of oppo more than a few times, but god drat does this make me want a seven. His reaction near 20 seconds when the Porsche first passes him is priceless. http://bridgetogantry.com/ First video at the top of the page. Holy poo poo. How is that guy not dead? That 7 must be easy as hell to save. I'm surprised the GT2 didn't just back off and let him have it since this looks like a random lapping day and not an event.

That Caterham driver must have a special seat custom-made to accommodate those huge balls. That's the gutsiest bit of driving I've seen in some time.

I wish NASCAR still used cars that at least were based on or converted from production models, instead of a totally dedicated racecar with some headlight decals on it. Put real, factory spec Camaros and Mustangs and Challengers and Hyundais and whatever out there, and see what happens. Drivers can use a racing harness if they want, but no other mods to the cars. It'd be slower, but I'd be more interested in a real-world demonstration of performance and safety, from cars the public can actually buy and drive.

Actually I've had the idea for a long time that if I were ever wildly rich, I'd start a new racing series. It would have two classes: Prototype: 1 rule: Driver must be in the car. That is all. Production: 3 rules: Driver must be in the car. At least 200 examples for sale to the public. The only modification from the sale models allowed is to remove any driver-comforts for weight savings (Strip the interior, remove A/C and sound system, that kind of thing.). Finally, if any manufacturer or team bitches that another team/manufacturer has an unfair advantage, they get banned for the rest of the season and their championship points are stripped. DON'T BITCH THAT YOU MADE THE INFERIOR CAR, JUST MAKE A BETTER ONE. To facilitate this, the prototype class can me modified all you please during the racing season. Just has to be the same chassis in each race. Then I realize that basically every major manufacturer would boycott it just for the last statement.

Considering that just removing the restrictor plates from Sprint Cup cars in NASCAR would result in 230+ mph speeds at the superspeedways, I doubt any more justification is needed. Imagine NASCAR displacements with F1 aerodynamics and WRC-refined forced induction; sounds like a recipe for disaster even if you're just doing time trials, let alone wheel-to-wheel racing. Besides, half the fun is seeing how the teams get around the restrictions in place to gain the edge on their competition.

I'd be more excited to see measures incorporated into the cockpits of the cars that would be necessary to keep drivers alive in a 230+ pile up.

The rumor is 2013 Toyota, Dodge, Ford and Chevy are all unveiling new model generations simultaneously to coincide with the final generation of the new NASCAR. Talk is the cars will really be silhouettes of the street version like 80s-90s NASCAR. The factory days are long gone because tube frames are awesome for circle tracks, but it's better than nothing. I'm not holding my breath, though. angryhampster posted:We really need more racers named "Fireball." Fireball Roberts died after a fire.
