Teenagers posted:they said in ep131 that they'd end on episode 262 That sucks, I'm only on episode 63 and am I constantly thinking how great this show would be with current topics, and now I might not ever experience it because I feel obligated to listen to them all in order. Even though there isn't a linear storyline aside from callback jokes which makes it all the more stupid.

Comedy Film Nerds have gotten their "bad accent pledge drive" going, if you're as excited as I am about the prospect of Graham doing an entire podcast in an awful (hilarious) accent, go on over there and donate to the cause! The money goes to Smile Train, they seem like really good people!

Cast Iron Brick posted:MBMBAM has gotten to surreal levels of comedy. If you don't already donate to MaximumFun.org, their donor content episode and video is phenomenal. I just started listening to them once they merged with maxfun, and I can't get enough. I haven't listened to their donor episode yet, but their riffed short was indeed great.

nemoulette posted:To be fair, 262 being the end or not, I kind of feel that Jonathan has been kind of unenthusiastic and gloomy for the last almost 100 episodes or so, compared to the golden days. Really? He seems just as pumped to be doing the show as he always has. At least to me. What makes you think that? Maybe it's because he's eating meat and watching TV now?

Just finished running through the Tobolowsky Files. Really impressive. Between him, Kevin Pollak, and Larry Miller you've got three solid character actors with a good sense of humor and a generally upbeat attitude. And all together, they've got 400 acting credits on IMDB--meaning they've worked with everyone, had successes and failures, and most importantly, have a ton of stories to tell and the ability to do so in a structured manner. (Well, Miller is kind of free form, but he talks so fast that it's not long before he gets back on point.) But they're also capable of talking about darker material without wallowing in self pity or whining or getting furious. It makes me think about that documentary Comedian that looked at Jerry Seinfeld versus a struggling standup named Orny Adams. At some point an agent or producer is trying to straighten out Adams, and suggests that he take a look at Stephen Wright. Adams gets hostile and says, "Oh yeah? What has he done recently." The agent points out that the previous year Wright had won an Oscar for a short film.

The new episode of Mike and Tom Eat Snacks is out and it gets better with every episode. The story of their Inuit fanclub is amazing and it really shows their improv skills. It reminds me more and more of UYD, the way they will just segue into a random topic and keep playing off of each other is just great.

Jonathan really needs to reel back the kind of faux-insight tangents he goes on. They don't usually go anywhere and tend to grind the show to a halt. When Seth calls him on his bullshit it's awesome though. My favorite was something like this: J: So there's a video out there from the 70s that shows people's auras S: Nope. No there's not. J: Anyway so there's footage of a baby being born and you can see the moment when the baby's aura separates from the mother's S: Well, no there isn't, but okay.

This has been a big week for Digital Porridge: new domain, new blog (well, new theme), in-browser media player on every post, and what I think is an instant 'best of' podcast with #18. Check it: http://www.digitalporridge.com/ RSS feed iTunes (iTunes has been really slow the past few days, according to the support forums, but the web site has an in-browser media player which is really handy!) Every episode has 'show notes' with links, pictures and videos of most of the stuff we talk about, and we try to encourage listener reviews, blog posts, feedback, emails and all that good stuff.

Any other Best Show fans contributing to the WFMU fundraiser? I started donating last year and I am continually astounded at the amazing premiums they offer. I donate at a pretty high level (the option to pay a bit of your pledge monthly really helps) and am chomping on the bit to get all my premiums. Check out WFMU's homepage. The donation link is here. Tom's premium: "We make it worth your while. I put together a premium that I am SO proud of called the DONT STOP ME NOW FANTASY PACK. Any pledge for 75 dollars or more automatically secures it. The pack consists of: RATED G.G. - a vinyl single comprised of songs by notorious scum rocker GG Allin cleaned up and recorded by people exclusively for this single! The single will feature tracks by BEN GIBBARD, THE MOUNTAIN GOATS, TY SEGALL, hosed UP and TED LEO! There will also be a bonus DIGITAL DOWNLOAD of the single that will feature additional content by HOME BLITZ, SCHARPLING AND WURSTER and MORE! The single will not be for sale in stores and will only be available by pledging DURING MY MARATHON SHOW! The fun pack also includes a POSTER designed by CHARLES BURNS! And there will also be an amazing T-SHIRT! And a BUTTON! And the only way to get these things is to pledge DURING MY SHOW TONIGHT - from 9 PM to midnight EST!" This isn't mentioned in his post, but those donating 500 bucks or more will receive a silkscreened high quality version of the poster.

Decline posted:Any other Best Show fans contributing to the WFMU fundraiser? I chose the "Mouse of Today" option on Monday and also dropped the occasional $15 since then (for those prizes). I had to select that Best Show premium, of course. Also, is there a WFMU thread in any of the other forums? I couldn't find one anywhere, although it seems ESSENTIAL to me.

I'm slowly listening to all of the CDR podcasts. At number 18 right now. Do they eventually stop playing comedy records? I can't stand comedy songs and that's the only knock I have against the show. But I just skip them so it's no big deal, I guess.
