Today the Scout and I got into a fight. First the throttle started sticking. Was driving up a hill on a rural two-lane, crested it and the pedal stayed down. Managed to get it calmed down thankfully. At the next town I bought a stronger return spring for the carb. Installed it and prompty bent the gas pedal arm above the pivot. It's stamped steel in a C shape and totally collapsed out. Removed the pedal, beat it back into shape and found a local shop to reinforce it with some bar stock. They welded the bar stock to the pedal arm. Reinstalled the pedal and 20 miles later snapped the throttle cable. Now I've got some twine tied to the carb run through the firewall and attached to the pedal arm with vice grips. Worst part is that I've got a brand new throttle cable at home. It's always the spare part I didn't bring that breaks.

Might check out a 240d this weekend. My favorite color combo and manual everything, 55k miles, for sale by 94 year old original owner. I pretty much have to buy it. The passenger's rear quarter panel has some rust starting, though.

Installed an S-line front bumper on my Avant. The grill and license plate delete panel were also painted to match. I'm really happy with how it turned out. The old bumper needed paint badly, and I got this whole setup for less than repainting the old one would have cost.

So a parcel arrived from glorious Nippon today. Cost me a little over half the price as getting the same loving thing locally, and I got it quicker too. Shame the instructions were in Moonspeak. See if you can guess which is the newly fitted modification in this shot? I swear that isn't a photoshop. I really must clean my engine bay.

Installed a new front set of Carbotech AX6 Brake Pads + Stainless Steel Brake lines on the Yaris. The braking feels a lot more confident but the pads certainly are dusty as gently caress, as much as to be expected I suppose. One thing I notice though is the pads seem to be a bit less aggressive through the first 15% of pedal travel but then really bite in afterward. Not sure if it's just a characteristic of the new pads/lines of if I bled the system improperly. Conelrad fucked around with this message at 04:52 on Feb 27, 2011 |

Kylie Sven Opossum posted:I bet he is working on getting it home right now, that's why he's not posting. Edit: Looked at the 240d. Paint: No fading, many rock chips on front end Trim, Rubber & Glass: Excellent Body: Ziebarted when new; rust starting in quarters, rust hole under battery, 1 door ding Maintenance: Current on maintenance (new tires, batt, brakes) with records since new Suspension: Old bushings could use replacement Interior: Excellent, all windows, buttons, etc work Engine: Started fine cold, transmission shifts well This car was the previous owner's baby. The ingress/egress carpet on the driver's side was covered with plastic to protect it since new. The rust (usually, the visible rust is the tip of the iceberg) and worn suspension gave me pause, so I didn't buy it. Today I replaced some bushes on the front that had cracked badly and gave the rest of the supension a good look over. I also ordered some new wheels and some Potenza RE011's to keep them stuck to the road. I even bullied the Bridgestone rep into giving them to me for about $270AU per tyre. tobu fucked around with this message at 06:39 on Feb 28, 2011 |

Tore the broken bumper off my Escort. Primed the replacement and prepped the car for the new piece. Also treated all the little rust spots. Gonna get it all buttoned up and cleaned and on CL this week.

Got most of the work done swapping the Civic's headgasket. After we broke off one of the plugs in the head while checking them for fouling, we didn't really have a choice but to pull the head. The theory is that they were still the factory original plugs in a 16 year old car with 130k+ on the odometer. Fairly impressive. All that's really left is the new plugs, reinstalling the valve cover, adding fluids and hoping we didn't gently caress up anything important (we probably did)

Cleaned and primed the new bumper for my Escort. While it was drying I tore the busted parts off the rear end of the car and cleaned up all the rusty spots. Later I shot the bumper with another coat of primer. Since I'm just doing the swap to try and make the car a more enticing buy I didn't sand it. Hoping to have the whole thing buttoned up by Wednesday.

This isn't so much as a what did I do to my car its more like what was done to my car. I was driving back on the highway back to school from my local airport. I got stuck behind a dump truck full of gravel/dirt/rocks/etc. It had one of those cute signs basically saying anything that hits my car is not from the truck but the road (pure BS) rocks and stuff began to shake off the truck and I was able to avoid most of them until I could get into another lane. LUCKILY unnoticed by me, there was a cop right behind me, he just happened to have gotten pelted on the windshield just after I left the lane. He got his rear end pulled over. My car got a nick or two on the bumper so pissed, thats what happened to my ride today.

I noticed someone hit mine There's a few deep scratches on my rear bumper on the drivers side corner. I'm betting someone in a truck did it in the parking lot here at work. Bottom of their bumper hit the top of mine. Jerks. Also replaced the wipers and started looking for new wheels and new summer tires that I'll be needing soon.

Discovered that VW chose to use M10 x 1.0 bolts to bolt the flex hose to one brake caliper, and M10 x 1.25 to bolt the flex hose to an otherwise identical caliper. The new, apparently correct, hose will be here Monday. The car was supposed to be back on the road yesterday. VW.

I finally finished swapping in and out light bulbs. Did you know that: the trip computer light bulb costs just a tick over $30 from Nissan? I do now... the unit is actually a little bit smaller than the old bulb and socket, but it does pretty much the same quality job of lighting up the display. I should have ordered one from the superbrightbulbs or whatever from a few posts ago, but I wasn't thinking and I paid the price. At least the parts department guy was friendly. Speaking of the bulb website: now that those are in, I can comment on their effectiveness. They aren't as bright, probably due to the fact that they're a good 5 to 10 mm shorter than the OE parts, and I'm willing to bet that the actual bulbs are smaller than the originals, too. BUT, they work, and they don't look like the old ones: Those aren't the original bulbs, but the original ones (smaller) managed to burn up the plastic pretty good. I think there's still a piece of the broken one rattling around inside my blower controls.
