Ask me about Genocide

Yannick_B posted:

Hodgman and Tom were hopped up on Four Loko, Hodgman asked a caller, also drinking it; "What flavour are you rocking, my sweet loko bro?" Its the best.
The best was when Hodgman was describing the flavor of the stuff he was drinking. At one point he said something to the tune of "It's like if you asked a robot to create a flavor." At another: "It tastes like there's a corroded battery." Then as the stuff starts to really kick in he talks about wanting to go to a MMA fight and to run outside and shake the building down.

Also, Microfiche machines. My god. Also they sing christmas carols.

Thanks for the tip on "Judge John Hodgman". I actually remember him talking about it on the Best Show but didn't look into it. I started listening to the most recent one about Potluck Parties on the way to the work and the truth of his words is blinding. I actually found myself enthusiastically agreeing with him that the milk in cereal is neither broth nor beverage nor sauce but rather an ingredient in the recipe of "cereal with milk."

I love how seriously he takes the stupid disputes. His rulings are pretty much always right on. And he always gets a few amazing lines in there too.

I also like Jesse in the sidekick role - it plays to his strength of being a well-spoken weirdo.

Holy poo poo. I just listened to the TESD where Suzanne thinks Brian's birthday is a day earlier than it actually is. Johnson and Quinn are hosed up individuals. Walt too, but in a different way.

Which episode was this?

I love TESD but for some reason I just stopped listening at episode 41. I don't know why, maybe it's because I have been listening way too much NNF or what, but I need to catch up, it looks like I have about 10 episodes to catch up on.

Episode 42, oddly enough. It's a huge train wreck, and in subsequent episodes, he still refuses to apologise for honestly hurting her and making her look bad in public.

Brian, Walt and Q are all hosed up, be it in varying shapes and forms. I still feel Walt is the most normal, even though in a way he is also the weirdest. It's a great combination either way in my opinion, the best thing to come out of the whole Kevin Smith podcast extravaganza.

I'm listening to Danny Trejo subbing for Kevin Smith on Jay and Silent Bob Get Old and it's almost unlistenable. Which is sad because I was looking forward to it because Trejo and Mewes sounded like such an oddball pair. But I'm guessing that he smoked up before the show, because like Kevin, his constant laughing is driving me nuts.

Never Not Funny is having an awesome sale at the moment. Gets seasons 1-5 (Plus 4 and 5 on video), which is 178 episodes for the low cost of only $69! (My brotha)

Trejo is always like that. Watch any of his interviews. I listened to the whole thing twice and it was actually pretty sweet and funny. Mewes is surprisingly a decent interviewer too. He has to reign Trejo in a few times which is just funny as hell to me considering who he is.

The latest episode of Digital Porridge is up - number nineteen! We tackle charges of podcasting while on drugs, theorize on watching 'conception porn' - basically going back in time to see the moments surrounding your conception, a bit more about cats and a bit more on top of that.

Check it out: http://www.digitalporridge.com/

(just uploaded it, so it may take a day or so for iTunes to show it)

Every episode has 'show notes' on the site with links, pictures and videos relating to the stuff we talk about, and we encourage listener blog posts, reviews, emails and all that good feedback stuff. We'd love to hear from other goons.

I'm surprised that Comedy Central hasn't embraced the "comedy nerd" concept. (I don't like that term, but it seems to be sticking.) Something like the documentary I Am Comic or any of the podcasts that look behind the scenes of comedy (Greg Fitzsimmons, WTF, etc.). The network has shown that it can take a more serious turn with The Daily Show. There are also some successful models from the past, like Behind the Music and E! True Hollywood Story.

I seem to recall a couple of one-off specials, but they've got a great opportunity these days with all the footage they own (all the specials, tons of comedians appeared on Dr. Katz). It doesn't have to be as dark as WTF or as fawning as The Nerdist, but there seems to be a growing interest in how comedy works, even if that discussion isn't particularly funny. Take some of that South Park ad revenue and make something like the Joan Rivers documentary.

IFC is trying to make themselves the "comedy nerd" channel - first, with re-running old Mr. Show, Arrested Development, Larry Sanders, Ben Stiller Show, then with picking up The Onion News Network, and now with the Scott Aukerman Comedy Death Ray segments. Hopefully, it works!

Any UK goons listening to Richard Herring's podcast? I haven't heard much about it and want to know if it's worth going through the back catalog on it.

Been a week but I didn't see a reply.

AIOTM is pretty good really if you like his type of stuff - quite a bit of pedantry and taking a joke to extreme lengths. Slight reliance on running jokes which would make it better to listen to from the start. It can also feel a bit under-rehearsed but that's the nature of it and that's also why it can be really great at times. It's a pretty bold experiment I think, and got better and better as it went on.

Collings and Herring is great, it has lo-fi appeal and relies completely on their great rapport to make it work.

Okay, so my brother recommended Comedy Death Ray Radio with the Nick Kroll episode and I've listened to about 3 more since then. I mourn Terriers as much you. In their defense, though, the ratings weren't just poor: they were abysmal.

AV Club talked about it, and actually got an FX executive to weigh in on it. Double their existing ratings would have been weak for a cable show.

They stumbled out the gate with Rachel Quaintance (which was BRUTALLY awkward), but I think that they've done a really good job holding up the quality form Season 7 (which is when I found them, so obviously is the best season ever :colbert:).

The most recent Rich Sommer episode had me doubled over for most of it, and the live shows are consistently great.

Any fans of the Pardcast have any insight as to the episode that they never aired because of the guest? He mentions tapping out of the year-end wrap-up but referenced a different episode earlier in that discussion.
