I did that in my last playthrough. It's pretty interesting because you have to do some digging a few times when mandatory computer use comes up. For instance (Ocean Lab spoiler) the username/password to access the UC computer in the Ocean Lab is on a datacube at the bottom of the electrified pool of water, below the floating MIB corpse. I didn't even know that existed because I'd always just hack it!

Started playing The Nameless Mod. It's really quite good. there are a fair few in-jokes but I imagine most of them go over my head and I don't notice. I think the concept is pretty funny and consistently executed rather well. Most of the silly internet meme references come from stupid characters that are supposed to be stupid. (Like the many newbies.)

I was ready for something seriously front loaded with "internet humour" meme crap, since that's what I had been led to expect but it's mostly devoid of that really.

If you haven't tried it, I recommend it. Best part so far is having a conversation with someone in a fan fiction shop (ha ha) about the various AIs in Deus Ex for 20 minutes. Really interesting stuff.

Not too hard, since you can usually evade security systems or disable them with weapons or multitools. I think it's fun if you've spent most of your games disabling security, since it adds another element to evasion and combat.

This part is amazing and worth watching a video of. Basically you run into some guy in a book store and he starts talking about shitloads of awesome stuff about Deus Ex. If you're still reading this thread, I guarantee you would find it interesting. I'll do some hunting and see if I can find a video of it. A lot of the info comes from the Deus Ex Bible.

edit: best I could find was a Lets Play with no game sounds. oh well.

I think somebody posted a transcription in this very thread, but you'd have to dig through it, of course.

Anyway, I said I'd do it a while back, and I finally did - [url=http://www.moddb.com/downloads/biomod-10[/url]. I'm pretty much done with it for now, so no more changes, at least for the next while. As the 1.0 implies, all the major bugs have been fixed and I think it's safe for anyone to try now, even people playing for the first time.

My working theory is that Romero's very presence can locally corrupt reality. Later that day Spector was shocked to discover all the banknotes in his wallet now have Romero's face on them.

I just grabbed the new Biomod but I'm having a weird problem with it. The game won't let me rebind Jump/Mantle. I can jump normally with the usual key (space) but I can't mantle, and in the list of keybindings it says "none" by Jump/Mantle. When I change it in the options, exit, and reopen the options, it's back to none. I can rebind any other key just fine.

Has anyone else had this problem? It could easily be something with my DX installation since I've had it over the course of two hard drives and a bunch of mods. I may just reinstall and be done with it.

Same here. I always rebind jump to Alt, but it won't stick in Shifter/Biomod - last versions as well as the ones before.

You only have to rebind once you install biomod for the first time. After that, it will show up as unbinded but still work regardless. Also, to mantle you need athletics trained to advanced.

Even if it says nothing is bound to the jump key, it still works.

Ah okay, thanks. Curious about how mantling will alter gameplay. Gonna try a non-lethal run with athletics, and the strength and speed augs maxed out. Btw, last tun in vanilla I tried the vision aug; great fun seeing through walls.

As insane as this sounds I would actually recommend the run silent aug. Mantling helps mitigate the loss of the speed augs and running around smashing people with the baton is so satisfying. Fast-paced non-lethal stealth indeed.

This only applies to Biomod though as vanilla run silent is poo poo.

Vanilla silent running is completely useless once you realize that if you turn on the speed run and crouch, you still run around really fast and are completely silent.

By Jove! Commoners!

I'm fairly sure this is actually incorrect. Running with Run Silent is faster and far less annoying to boot

Piffle! Run Silent means you can sprint up behind someone, or jump down next to them, without them knowing you're there. It can be very useful.

Try it sometime, you can easily move at running speed while crouched with the speed aug in vanilla, or you can move so fast that you can stab anyone before they have time to notice you. It's pretty much the most overpowered aug in the game.

Oh gently caress; saw this too late. Installed speed out of habit, but I'm out of tranq darts and gas grenades and have no idea how to tackle the Mole People/LaGuardia segment now while still getting as many goodies as I can. Biomod lets you overwrite previously installed augs though, right?

Also noticed that the latest Shifter seems to have lost its additional skill point bonus system. When downing humans, that is; I did get 10p for disabling the botlet on LI.

If you are just the right mix of bold, crazy, and lucky, you can "sneak" by using speed to silently leap past enemies while they're looking away, land somewhere they can't see you, then turn it off and stealthily skedaddle to a good hiding spot when they run over to find out what the hell made that giant THUD OOF sound. It's extremely touch-and-go, but I managed to make it work at the airport level. The mole people tunnels, on the other hand, are always a bastard to sneak through because of how cramped and crowded they are :(
