I started the process of pulling and replacing the transmission in my E30. Those bellhousing bolts were a bitch to get off. I'm not looking forward to putting them back on, but it'll be so worth it to have second gear again.

It wasnt that bad, after you left I got to help put out the fire!

Changed the oil, fixed the parking brake, painted the roof and drove it back to CT from FL. I was a little concerned since it had been sitting for 2 years but it ran like a champ all the way home. So nice to drive a car after driving pickups for the last year or so. 90hp never felt so drat fast.

No, they are Panasport Ultralites. They stick out so far because they came off of a Honda and I needed spacers so I went overboard with 20mm. I have to get some 15mm ones soon because it scrapes a lot and its annoying.

Thanks! The paint is courtesy of being bored and drunk with my friends.

What did you paint on the roof? is that a german flag?

It is but its terrible. I measured it wrong and masked it off too soon and messed up the orange. Either that or my car rejected it since it is Chevy orange. I'm gonna have to redo it next time I get beered up.

I made the most of a half-day at work and some half-decent weather and got the angle grinder out. I've taken all the underbonnet bracing out, and cut out the hole for the Subaru hood scoop that I picked up a few weeks back. As soon at the sealant is all dry, I'll get it sanded and painted and then hopefully it won't look quite so out of place.

Is that a challenge?
Last week: Finally got the brake system all back together after almost 2 weeks of loving around, all working perfectly.

Today: Found out the rattling coming from the back was the trailing arm bushings not the socket set I keep back there.

Next weekend: Open the brake system back up and rip the trailing arm out to get at the bushings.

I rather meticulously cleaned my interior. Tan upholstry loving sucks, god drat it. I still have a few spots on my trim panels that need attention, probably gonna buy a toothbrush to do that, there's some pretty ground-in poo poo on my door sills. :argh:

And as soon as I get back all my brushes and soaps and whatnot, I can do the outside too. I need some buffing compound to get out a few tiny surface scratches, but that may have to wait as I am very, very broke right now.

you spin me right round baby right round.
Since buying the car the handle to slide to drivers seat forward to get people in the back (the, backrest forward and all side one) has never worked. It can't quite pull the cable far enough to get it over the ratchet.

Renault wanted £260 + labour for a new seat
Local garage wanted £50 for a new cable + labour.

I, master bodger with a can of beer and a Sunday, did it with a cable tie I found on the garage floor. Boo yeah. (Did cut my finger though :( )

With that out the way I took it to the local tyre place and replaced the worn out Hankooks with Michelin Pilot Sport 3's. It actually feels like a different car, the allround increase is every area is remarkable. Not as harsh over bumps, grippier, quieter, better feedback, and the turn in feel is amazing.

I took it for an MOT test at the local VW dealer. Why yes, I do laugh in the face of unforeseen expense, what of it? It passed but one advisory came back - one front fog light doesn't work.

Hmm, in retrospect not checking that the bally lights work before the test was a bit stupid but this is a German car with superior German filaments.

Promptly put 20 miles on it for no reason after I got it back from the body shop. Some dickhead passed and cut me off late at night on a two lane road, tore off the front bumper + plastics and tried to blame me.

I'd like to thank his insurance company for footing the entire bill.

I'd also like to thank Stoneham Motor Company Collision Center for their excellent work. Anybody looking for a body shop north of Boston should check them out. It took a little longer to get the car back than they or I originally expected but I picked it up today cleaned inside and out. My family has gone there for years with repair work and they're always done nothing but stellar work.

Arrrr ye landlubber
I turned a routine oil change on my Mazda6 to an all-day parts hunting adventure when the filter cartridge housing rolled off a table and broke. The anti drainback valve shattered and threw its spring to who knows where.

I've always hated how this filter is setup --paper element clips onto a reusable cap and gets screwed into the bottom of the engine. It's really difficult to remove without making a mess, and if I ever took the car into a lube place, there's no way I could verify the filter got changed.

I changed the oil in my '96 Dodge B2500 van today which has 200k+ miles on it. Ordinarily this wouldn't be a post worthy event, but this time I added Tuf Oil. My engine is starting better and easier then it has in the past 2 years. I've never used any type of oil/additive/treatment that has had such a noticeable effect.

Have I posted about my Subaru XT yet? Here are pictures of my Subaru XT. POST POST POST.
Spotted a shabby later-year W123 Wagon with a for sale sign and a makeshift window.

W123 weight reduction! Includes 2.5 gal bucket of rust flakes from the car! This car would make a lovely $500 beater if the floors and frame rails were solid, but I doubt it. I've seen this car parked facing the other way; at least it runs, the SLS works and the front tires appear to be worn evenly.
