In 1992 if you told me we will have a largely unregulated form of communication with an emphasis on audio and video and that they would still be producing edited rap music videos for this medium I would of said you're crazy. No artist would not take advantage to promote the art as it was intended..... ....and yet here we are.

This video is kinda... meh. The visuals are, for the most part, really great (a lot owing to influences, I guess). The performances, however, seem really half-assed and almost bored. I've seen better from Kanye. Rihanna, though.

The typefaces are neat since they're Enter The Void style but the rest of it was basically just Kanye dancing on a cop car in an alleyway and Rihanna's breasts. Maybe simple is better (if you can call this simple), but I wanted to see a little bit more.

Yeah what the hell is happening with watch the throne? Also is Lupe's new album really that bad? I'd ask the hip hop thread but I have a feeling that if it's not BASED GOD or some super obscure guy being talked about I'd get chased out of the thread

The club/dance tracks blow though. e: Also Kanye said MBDTF was supposed to be out like 7 months before it actually came out, I wouldn't hold my breath for WTT. hm I might check out a bit on youtube or something before buying it then, thanks I wish Kanye would just shut the gently caress up with release dates as well. Remember around new years he basically said WTT would be out in full the next week? Then HAM didn't even come out that soon. I know not to get my hopes up but it's just too annoying I want more Kanye

I've learned over the years to not trust hip hop release dates. When you see it on the racks it's out and that's going to happen sometime after the given ate but not nessecarily on. When's that Helter Skelter Dre and Cube team up LP coming again?

A few months later, and I'm --- not regretting, but second-guessing my decision to buy the album on vinyl. I just never listen to it: most every song is pretty high-rated in my digital library, but it's a pretty drat wearying album to take in all in one sitting. I think I've only spun the entire thing, beginning to end, over the three platters three or four times since I bought it. Compare this to Big Boi's album, which gets dragged out about once every two weeks or so.

I bought both on CD, but only listen to each as mp3s in genera;, and I *much* more often put on MBDTF and listen to it all the way through - fairly regularly, still, actually - as opposed to the Big Boi album, which I'll occasionally put on shuffle, and then mostly skip to the four or five songs I like most.

One thing that really irks me about this album is that he separated Lost in the World and the "Who Will Survive" performance. It seems that originally, Who Will Survive was suppose to transition from Lost in the World (as it does on the Good Friday release). Try it out yourself, you'll see the transition is incredibly smooth and just works a thousand times better for both tracks.

Don't people ever listen to full albums anymore? Of course it transitions really well, and you get that transition if you just listen to the album in order, which is how I always do if I'm not going for a specific single.

I think Devil In A New Dress has the same problem too. But I still like the album more every time I listen to it.

And I still listen to the whole album straight through (sometimes minus Devil in a New Dress and Runaway) pretty often, all things considered. Devil in a New Dress gets my vote as most forgettable song of the album, and I'm just not all that into actually listening to Runaway, though I know it's absolutely central thematically. Recently I've finally started sitting through it on the album listens. I think a lot of people misinterpret both Blame Game and Hell of a Life. My take: “Hell of a Life” is a song about a fantasy of not loving but *marrying* a porn star, and as such is more broadly about the idea of collapsing the barriers between fantasy and reality, both as something that many people can do, unconsciously, in a negative way, and something that legitimately and literally occurs at the extremes of fame and wealth. And “Blame Game” is about the utter collapse of a relationship with massive piles of fault on both ends, probably inspired by but not literally about Kanye’s own relationship with Amber Rose. In that case, it’s necessarily from the dude’s point of view, and so that dudely bitterness fully vented in the Chris Rock bit... which, I think, is a choice that shows Kanye knows how ridiculous, how humorous at full remove, the bitterness is. That Chris Rock bit is essential to making it clear that the song is an *exaggeration*. And I don't have a problem with actually listening to it - I think it sounds fine and like part of the song - which I guess some people don't.

Hell Of A Life is simultaneously about both just loving a porn star and marrying one. In reality, he is doing nothing but loving her in the bathroom ("married in the bathroom, honey moon on the dance floor, got divorced at the end of the night"), but is fantasizing about what actually marrying her would be like.

Hell of a Life is about how after the Swift incident he was shunned and everybody was publicly against him, but in their private lives they'd still listen to him. People wouldn't admit to it, thus he was treated like people treat porn stars. Blame Game is about his dysfunctional relationship with the music industry. They both hated each other, but they really couldn't get along without each other.

If it really is partially about that, only a few lines in the song might be about that I'm not hearing much of what you said about Blame Game either. Cause the entire last part of the song is definitely referring to Amber Rose, like, without a shadow of a doubt. Woody Allen once said of orgasms "even the worst one I ever had was right on the money." I feel that way about this album. It's the worst (read: my least favorite) track on the album, but I still love it. Yeah, I would have made it a bit shorter, but I don't actively avoid it or anything. In fact, this album is one of maybe half a dozen albums that when I listen to it, I listen to it. I hardly ever just pick out one or two songs from it, I just put it on from track one and go all the way through. On a different topic, Kanye said that he's going to have a new album (not Watch the Throne) dropping this Summer. Before this album, he never had one that really stood out to me. I liked the singles, and a few of the other tracks, but none of them had the level of impact that Fantasy did. So I'm really, really hoping he's able to maintain the level of polish this album had, but the fact that it's coming so soon after this worries me. Am I alone in this?

Considering that you never liked his other albums that everyone else spazzes out over I think you're more or less alone in this :P I also don't believe for one second he has another album coming out this summer. He also said Watch the Throne would be a 5 track EP consisting of the Power Remix, So Appalled and possibly Monster at one point, then he promised it would be out early january as a full album, then what? HAM came out and... nothing. In fact the same series of tweets where he said he'd have his new album this summer was on January 24th, it was like 3 tweets and it was WATCH THE THRONE 2 MONTHS MY NEW ALBUM THIS SUMMER ALL OF THE LIGHTS VIDEO NEXT WEEK The video debuted almost a full month later, Watch the Throne clearly isn't here yet and has no signs of being here anytime soon (it's already been two months!) soooo the new album I predict will be late late this year if at all in 2011. I don't even care that all his poo poo is delayed but I just wish he wouldn't say it was coming then not say anything I mean I remember around new years he was like yeah watch the throne is next week, clearly he knew that was wrong
