Freezepop's a little bit of an outlier in that I've not heard any other bands with that minimal feel to the synths. With that in mind it's 80s Throwback Electro-House YouTube Vomit Time (Fem Vox Ed.), hopefully you'll find something to enjoy here.

I'll be pretty surprised if you're into this kind of music and haven't heard Ladytron yet. If not get on that pronto

Dubstar were a semi-synthpop, semi-dream pop band that had a minor British top 40 hit with Stars in the 90s (personally speaking, I had one of those moments when I heard it again years later after forgetting about it completely). Client, Sarah Blackwood's next project, came after they split and has a far colder, slightly menacing sound that I personally dig but it ain't gonna be everyone's thing.

Alice in Videoland is VERY pop-inclined, their first three albums are a blast (not so fond of their most recent though). Here's a good one. Snowboarders like them, I'm not sure if there's any special reason for that or if it's just because there's a lot of snow in Sweden.

Speaking of Sweden, here's a proclick video with a drat good song by The Knife. That song's a bit special though, they normally sound more like this (notice the Björk-lite vocals), which is still fine, just sayin'.

Pzychobitch is more on the industrial side of electro (they're German, they can't help it), but they fit into this sort of sound plus they're obscure enough I feel like namedropping them anyhow

Not female vocals, still cool: The Presets (I don't know much about these guys but this song and the album it's on are killer)

Also, while not really representative of their overall sound you might get a kick out of Fischerspooner's Megacolon if you've got a sick sense of humour (warning: absolutely filthy song about scat fetishists)

Also also I'd never heard of IATWTC until your post, so thanks for that.

edit: Hey hey I forgot Chicks on Speed, they're probably closer to Freezepop than a lot of stuff on that list. Here's a thing

Wow, thanks for this! Lots of stuff to listen to :)

I know basically nothing about country music, and I feel like I should fix that. It's not because of any "Oh yeah, I listen to anything but country" sentiment but just because I've never really gotten into it and as far as I know, my country fan friends mainly listen to stuff like Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood that I can't stand.

The extent of my knowledge is pre-entry level, just things by Johnny Cash and a few other songs, but I'd appreciate recommendations of good uptempo stuff like Johnny Bond's Hot Rod Lincoln and The Devil Went Down to Georgia.

If you have a tolerance for corn, definitely check out Roger Miller, the guy who did King of the Hill. Nashville songwriters would cluster around the guy in bars because he couldn't stop writing down lyrics on napkins. He'd leave them behind and bang, there was a song. Another great story about him: he gets pulled over for speeding. Cop asks, can I see your license? Miller says, sure, can I see your gun?

Slower but unskippable: Johnny Paycheck. Before his outlaw period ("Take This Job and Shove It") and before his head imploded from coke (and before he went to jail for 8 or 9 years for blowing someone away), he wrote some of the meanest goddamn songs ever written. "Pardon Me (I've Got Someone To Kill)," "He's in a Hurry (He Has to Get Home to My Wife)" are just two of the songs that justify years of parenthesis abuse by country singers. Start out with The Real Mister Heartbreak: The Lil' Darlin' Years.

If you wanna go countrypolitan (country music with lush instrumentation), you can't go wrong with Patsy Cline. A quick survey on youtube will tell you if you wanna go that way.

Course, country music has pedal steel, and there are a couple of people who played better steel than anyone. Pete Drake was the guy who invented the talkbox (like Frampton used on "Do You Feel Like I Do"), so he sang through his pedal steel. The sound is like nothing else. He also played for everyone, country or not; he played on Harrison's "My Sweet Lord." In fact, he played with Roger Miller: check out "Lock Stock and Teardrops" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=No7asZj5esY) for great examples of both of them. Another really good (and much faster) steel player is Speedy West.

tl;dr: Roger Miller, Johnny Paycheck, Patsy Cline, Pete Drake, Speedy West, I got way too much time on my hands.

I've recently gotten into noise rock and I'd like to know of a few bands you'd recommend for someone just starting to get into it. I've enjoyed the likes of Lightning Bolt and The Psychic Paramount; groups that are noisy, but also have a lot of "drive" and "power" as well as the fuzz of noise (c/p Male Bonding, a group I'm not really interested in).

Well obviously other projects Brian Chippendale does; Black Pus, Mindflayer. And maybe Black Dice or Soft Circle because of the Hisham Baroocha connection or w/e.

Actually, pretty much any band that releases stuff on Load records might be worth looking into. Definitely a good place to start for someone just getting into noise rock. A few I highly recommend: Sightings, Homostupids, Brainbombs, Pink & Brown, The Hospitals

The Psychic Paramount kinda rose from the ashes of Laddio Bolocko so you should probably check that out.

Some other stuff; Zs, Boredoms (probably my favourite band ever!!), Crom-Tech, The Flying Luttenbachers, Ruins, Zach Hill

and this :krakken:

Doesn't have quite the 50s vibe but Sleater-Kinney's Ballad of a Lady Man has the same kind of harmonizing in the refrain (at 2:10 and 2:48).

Yeah, pretty similar! Probably a bit more emphasis on electronics and less vocals, which is why I recommended the newest album in particular.

edit: Actually I'm relistening to their first album now and it almost has a post-rock vibe at points? Hard to describe... I really like all their stuff but it doesn't exactly match the tone of From The Stairwell so preview the tracks on youtube or whatever before you buy ha.

EITS is more "twinkly" than Pianos, but if you want to get into them, I always liked "The Earth Is Not A Cold, Dead Place." The Friday Night Lights soundtrack (the movie, that is) is pretty much all them and is pretty amazing too.

EDIT: I'd recommend you just learn to love Pianos and then also love Envy.

For the most part, outside of their new album (which I haven't heard) alot of their poo poo sounds really pretty much the same. I'll second the recommendation for the album The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place

especially the songs "The Only Moment We Were Alone" and "First Breath After a Coma"
