That's pretty much the best description of Harris I've ever heard. I think it's the way he tells his awful jokes like they're the best poo poo ever is what makes even the duds hilarious.

Today's WTF podcast has a lengthy discussion from Maron about how he was consulting on Charlie Sheen's tour. Could be an interesting fit, since Sheen appears to be on an upswing manic phase and Maron has an extensive knowledge of dealing with the crazy.

Plus, yet another member of The State visits the Cat Ranch--Michael Showalter has an interesting interview about his book and his teaching(!) at NYU.

If you don't like Brody Stevens, don't bother. Really, I adore him and this episode was exhausting. He basically has a pot/5-hour energy induced breakdown about midway through, and the whole episode goes of the rails. Howard Kremer brings it back and even works with Brody's personality ("Chart Goose!"), but it's probably going to be more maddening than enjoyable for you.

Doug Loves Movies is probably the most stand-upy show out there. Its recorded in front of a live audience and that atmosphere really influences the overall feel of the show for the better. Doug Benson has a staggering array of comedy friends and will almost always have one or two comics on each episode.

Comedy Death Ray is maybe the best show for showcasing raw comic talent. It's not stand-up, its more like improv theater. It mixes guests with characters and eerily accurate impersonations, and not just easy stuff like Christopher Walken and Bill Shatner. I'm talking about John C. Reilly, Ice-T, Huel Hauser and most recently Alan Rickman. Its kinda goofy a lot of the time but once you get into the show's rhythm and style it can blow you away.

It took me two or three episodes to really "get" CDR, but now it's my favorite podcast. Listen to a few, find some guests you like, get all their episodes and end up finding new favorites, repeat. Anything with Seth Morris as Bob Ducca or James Adomian as pretty much anybody is golden.

This is my experience as well. The first episode I listened to was Brian Posehn with James Adomian. Adomian was doing his food critic character and it was incredibly unpleasant to listen to. He's rightly hated in my opinion. I gave it a second chance and it was okay, and then I listened to the episode with Patten Oswalt and Brett Gelman, and almost crashed my car when Brett recited iBrain.

The best CDR is the episode with Bill Cosby Bukowski, his jelloem "who's the most fuckable huxtable" is the best. Everyone I've played it for loves it and quotes it all the time.

poo poo yes, that one was amazing. I wasn't too fond of Nick Swardson in that one but Jon Daly pretty much ran the show so it didn't really matter. Apparently Daly's on next Monday's episode with Patton Oswalt. I'm hoping for outright awesomeness.

I've listened to about a dozen CDR episodes in the past week, and I've found that I treat it like Saturday Night Live: I skip the music and I skip sketches I dislike. For whatever reason, I don't like the characters or the "Would You Rather?" game, but I love the actual real interview portion.

One exception: So many people in this thread talked about their love of the character Li'l Gary. It took me about three appearances before I finally got it, and now I think it's hilarious. This morning I called my dog Mott Skaukerman and he just looked confused.

Uh, what? What? I really don't think there is any kind of "real interview portion" on CDRR, at least to speak of. If you're skipping the characters and WYR? then you're skipping 90% of the comedy, so how does that work exactly?

Half the fun of CDR is in Scott loving with the improv characters. I love when he asks them to repeat something they said 20 minutes ago in the show, and when he focuses on the dumbest things that the character would rather just breeze past. He gives Andy Daly such a hard time sometimes, and Andy is a total pro.

And Li'l Gary is indeed delicious. Hilarious! I meant hilarious. He's not food.
