You're not supposed to rest your wrists, anyway.

I'm using a Logitech that came with the Dell Vostros we used to sell at the computer store I used to work at. the bottom says it's a "Logitech Internet 350". Sturdy little thing, looks pretty good, too.

I dont know it feels really uncomfortable without the wrist rest to me. Also not too used to the resistance of the keys. I will give it till monday to see if I get used to it.

Also picked up a Thermaltake Tt mouse which is awesome except for some reason it only has one programmable button it. Probably will need to replace that with something more customizable too. but I really like the size of it.:smith:

I use a Logitech G500 mouse. Mousewheel can scroll horizontally as well and there's a button to let the mousewheel spin freely. Three thumb buttons too, though one, by default, merely acts as another MMB.

man what

I will never again buy a mouse that does not have the following features:
- Tilt wheel
- Freewheeling scroll wheel
- Forward/back buttons

I'm glad my Logitech G9x does all of these, but unfortunately it's a claw grip and I'm more of a palm grip, I think. It doesn't stop me but I know it's slightly less comfortable than it could be.

So I want to go back to wired keyboards.

Get a Logitech MX518. It's durable, comfortable, and relatively cheap. I got mine for $38. As far as keyboards go, I use a Logitech G11. No matter what keyboard you get, I'd buy a Logitech. I only say that because their customer service department will replace it with no questions asked.

Yeah I think this is about the only thing I'm trying to get used to on my G500 as well. I'm accustomed to the MS mice where it is a palm grip mouse, but these, I have to retrain myself. Thus far it's been worth the trade-off tho as this mouse is awesome.

You could get an MX Revolution from logitech and have the best of both worlds, mine is set for clicking until I spin it fast enough that it turns to a free spin until I stop it. Wonderful for switching weapons and smooth scrolling walls of text in games.

For some reason I'm getting pretty poor performance in Battlefield Bad Company 2, whether it's my rig or my connection, I don't know.

I have an E8400 at stock clocks, GTX280, 4Gigs of DDR2, and I'm running at 1680x1050. I have an alleged 15mbs connection from Rogers, and my computer is jacked directly into my router, but for some reason, I get some pretty bad lag in BF:BC2 games with relatively low pings (Lower than 100). Any idea?

You tried running somehont that shows you your FPS? BC2 is one of the games that really benefits from more than 2 cores at the moment. I'd also recommend turning "HBAO" off as it gives you a real frame rate hit.

That just makes it more ridiculous, I feel.

"Life of the Party" and the level before it, "Sneaking into Angelwatch" or whatever it's called, are the two best levels of any game I've ever played. I put 4 hours into them in one stretch, 2 hours each. The sheer level of detail is amazing - you're sneaking through the rooftops, and you can wander off and see a scene based on the Hatfields & the McCoys, then there's the people arguing about the invitations...immersion.

Oh, I got the levels mixed up - Life of the Party is what I meant. I played it during my first year in residence, and I was so excited about how awesome it was when I came around that last corner and saw Angelwatch for the first time in all its glory that I got the guy across the hall to come see how badass it was. Then Half-Life 2 came out three weeks later, what an awesome time for videogames that was.

I have a Thief question. I've tried to play T3 about 5 times, but only ever got maybe halfway through before its sickening consolitis made me give it up. What a ruined game that was. But everybody tells me the last level is awesome and spooky and makes up for everything before it, is that really true? Shalebridge Cradle, I think it's called. Can I find a save that's like just before the level and play it and get the same experience?

I think T3 is still an amazing game, especially the Cradle(I think it's actually two or three levels from the end). Only video game that's actually scared me. If you're having that much trouble getting through it, maybe it's not for you though?

This game (And to a lesser extent Invisible War)have gotten a lot of undeserved heat. Yes, they are consolized and probably not the sequel most "fans" were hoping for, but they are still good games in their own right that you can have fun with if you get over the hump.

Like, Thief 2 is one of my top 3 favourite games of all time. It's not the Thief gameplay that pisses me off, it's the endless loading screens and backtracking (WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO TO THE NEXT AREA THAT YOU JUST WALKED DOWN A REALLY LONG HALL TO GET TO Y/N), disgustingly small levels, and just the general sense of limits that kills the game for me. Thief 1 and 2 were great for just the opposite reason - the levels were huge, and you were rewarded for exploring and taking your own approach. In T3, you just don't have that ability.

I found the game claustrophobic in the worst way, and as I get older and there are so many other games to play that don't suffer those problems I feel like I'm less and less inclined to wade through a lovely version of my favourite game just to get to one good level.

I mean, the reconciliation scene in Godfather Pt 3 between Kay and Michael is phenomenal, and it's one of the few quiet moments of the last 25 years of Al Pacino's career. But am I going to wade through 2+ hours of Sofia Coppola learning acting in front of a real live audience to get there? Nope. But as someone who's played the game - given my problems with T3, would Shalebridge Cradle really impress me that much?

The Shalebridge Cradle is by far the scariest video game experience I've ever had. Clive Barker's Undying can't touch it, The hotel level in Vampire TM: Bloodlines can't touch it. It's honestly terrifying. The game is worth the price of admission for that level alone.

I think it would absolutely impress you, given your opinion of the game. It's pretty much everything you'd want from a horror game; it's suspenseful, creepy and has a great payoff. It's certainly a unique experience, at least it was for me.

Whether you think it's bad, good, or somewhere in between I think you'd be satisfied no matter what. I can't speak for you of course, and maybe the Cradle would only exacerbate your problems. Ultimately it's up to you, of course.

Life of the Party is closely followed by Shipping and Receiving. Life of the Party was coded with the guiding hand of the holy ghost. It's right up there with E1M1, Complex, and Deck-16. Shipping and Receiving was fun because of how varied it was. Every warehouse had a story behind it (the most awesome part about it) and they were all unique.

I've been playing through T2X. You play as a girl instead of Garrett, I guess they didn't want to break the City's lore. But the map design is incredible.

Robbing the Cradle is fantastic and everyone needs to play it. It's the penultimate mission in the game and ties into the main plot a bit, but if you really can't stand T3 then yeah, you could get a save and treat it as a standalone experience. And when you're done you should read the 10-page feature Kieron Gillen wrote for PC Gamer just about this single level, you can download it from his blog. :siren:DO NOT TOUCH THAT PDF UNTIL YOU HAVE PLAYED THE LEVEL FOR YOURSELF:siren:

If you're going to play the Cradle, make sure you don't read any spoilers about it. It's a one-time level, if you play it through once, you know what's going to happen, and it's not "that" scary afterwards.

The only thing that would come close to scaring me this much would be the beginning of Penumbra: Black Plague. The first encounter with infected is intense. That fear didn't last for 3 hours though (Shalebridge Cradle is this long, seriously).

I was 14 when Theif 3 came out, and going from those first 2-3 average levels at the beginning I had no clue that I was about to experience what would be, by most popular decision, the absolute scariest level in any game released, and to be released... This is my story...

I was at home alone during the weekend, it was a warm sunny day and we didn't have any blinds where the TV was so I was surrounded by the warm, positive energy of the sun. I was feeling good, I had no schoolwork to think about and I was enjoying a fun new Playstation game that let me sneak around badass castles and stab guards, nothing could go wrong. Boy was I wrong...
As soon as I came across the pre-mission briefing screen I could already tell something wasn't right, the tone of the game was changing, becoming more ominous. I thought nothing of it at the time... Maybe I should have... Maybe I should have turned the game off there and then and gone outside, saving my youth... My innocent youth. But, as you could guess, I didn't.
Despite the positive rays of sun lovingly lapping at my skin, the scene before me turned my very core cold, my skin tingled and I couldn't shake the paranoia that suddenly, something was watching me. Something evil. Because there's something really evil about a derelict orphanage/mental institute. That's like the two scariest locations combined. It's almost cheating really.

Anyway.

I crept cautiously toward the building, the front door wasn't an option, it was barred. It was barred for good reason. Scouting the side of the building I found a hatch leading deep under the building into it's cellar. I shouldn't have gone in, but I did, and I hate myself for it. The vulnerable feeling of having no one in the house was seriously getting to me, and I may as well have been playing at night, during Halloween, because that's drat well what it felt like.
My memory becomes hazy from this point on, repressed memories? Most likely. But I'll never forget the attic. The attic that has unimaginable horrors that taunt you while you contemplate whether it was worth risking your life and sanity by investigating.
I watched a crappy youtube play-through with a friend recently, because I was talking to him about this particular level, we got up to the part before you enter the attic and he didn't want to watch anymore. We're grown men who watch the 'scariest' movies out for a laugh. And this defeated him.

tldr; really scary stuff!

I honestly don't get all the love for Shalebridge. I absolutely agree that it is scary as hell, but I guess it just didn't grab me the way it did most people. For me, the haunted cathedral in Thief 1 was far scarier. Holy poo poo, those Hammer ghosts saying, 'Join us, join us, join us NOW!' Things from games don't usually make it into my dreams, but I vividly remember having dreams about that cathedral.
