Isn't there a limit though? They're already reaching sub-40 nanometer technology so it seems like there needs to be a lateral jump like there was with the dual and quad cores rather than pure speeds. As for my question. Are there types of rings that bachelors can wear like a personal seal or something? Sounds weird, but I think it would add some character to my otherwise bare hands.

We have a ways to go before we reach the fundamental limits suggested by the laws of physics, though. It looks like the next big jump is going to come through cross-pollination from graphics cards, which already tend to have several hundred cores per chip. There also the very real possibility that x86-64 is displaced in favor of ARM derivatives in the near future, at least for midrange consumer gear.

A long time ago I found a website dedicated to a type of exercise that involved putting a muscle under tension, then immediately working it. For example (because I think I'm explaining this bad) if you jumped off of a chair, landed on the floor (so your leg muscles were under tension from catching your weight), then jumping up onto another chair before they relaxed. This was supposed to work your muscles much more than normal exercise somehow. Two questions: Does anyone know what the term is for this kind of exercise, and Lacking much concrete knowledge about fitness myself, would this actually work?

This really is a stupid/small question. I have one huge cabinet in my lovely basement apartment where I put all my pots and pans. What would be the best way to organize it all so everytime I reach under there it doesn't sound like WW3 while I'm pulling stuff out? Googling gave me some ideas, but I'd like to hear what some goons have to say about having limited cabinet space!

Hard to say without knowing the dimensions of the cabinet and what kinds of pots/pans you have, but how about taking out the shelves and putting pegboard on the back? Then you can hang them all up individually. You could also add racks, so that every pot/pan gets its own space...

To clarify, you make a grimacing face not because of any perceived need to socially communicate the mistake, but because it actually tastes bad, correct? I think Don Norman might class this as an associative activation error. You're bringing the drink to your lips thinking and expecting signals that will confirm your associations with soda, and are thrown off when unexpected signals for water come in, which do not activate the associations you have queued up for soda.

I've come to a bit of a stumbling block over technical terminology, I think... I have a new Kindle and I need to register it to "unlock" certain options, like creating collections. I don't have wireless - which is the only way it will connect to Amazon. Is there such a thing as a cheap USB transmitter that I can plug into my PC, or do I need to get a wireless router for this sort of thing. (incidentally, the two wifi hotspots near my area crash its browser)

If I could listen to my music loud enough to block street traffic then I'd have kept it. Instead I went for the new iPod nano. The unit itself was really nice and I'm disappointed I had to send it back but I'm also glad I have something I can clip on my pocket and just tap to skip tracks (I had a shuffle before the sony). Archos do small mp3 players now. I can't vouch for these but I love their entertainment "tablets" that they did before iPad style tablet PCs were popular. Excellent quality materials but they were heavy because they used regular harddrives. Only come in black by the look of it. You're in the UK right? Go into a Currys Digital to see their range and if you decide to get one, go to Dixons.co.uk and buy it there. Better service and cheaper prices (from the same company).

There was a novel I once read that I didn't finish. I can't recall what it was about. In it there was a man who could stop time, but while time was frozen, he still aged. (That, or it took that time off his life and made him age quicker.) He ended up looking very old despite being very young from all the people he's saved with his power. I also recall the main character remarking that he acted a lot differently than he used to, and (I think) becoming more bitter. I've googled all around and I've turned up nothing. I don't suppose anyone knows?

If the Sansa e280 doesn't have enough storage space for you, the Sansa Clip+ holds 8 gigs and takes 16 gig microSD cards. It's a tiny monster. It's like 2 inches long.

But Lazy Susans rock. Otherwise, do what I do and: --put the lids somewhere else, like in a drawer or in a plastic milk crate somewhere. --stack the pots as much as you can, by size, every time you put them away, and then lift out the stacks when you're looking for a particular pot. If you put them away by simply tossing them in there randomly, that's what gives you the WW3 effect when looking for a pot. If you have already done this, then see #1, above, "Lazy Susans". You can also obtain extra storage space for all-metal, non-plastic pots by keeping them in the oven; the trick here is to remember they're in there before you turn the oven on for your frozen pizza, but since you didn't put any pots with plastic handles or knobs in there in the first place (right?), all that happens is that you go to put your frozen pizza in the oven to discover that it's full of hot pots and pans.

So this week my grandfather had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his jaw, and part of that operation involved transplating veins from one of his legs into his jaw... presumably to direct arterial blood flow? My question is, what harm will removing veins that were actively serving a purpose in his legs (circulating blood, etc) do to him? That is, will removing those veins from his legs cause any harm to the tissues in his legs, or something else? Does the body just try to get along with less veinous blood return, or is there any way the body can regenerate those veins post surgery? I'm really curious, but am having a hell of a time finding any information about this online owing to the difficult nature of how to phrase the question.

My wife and I have the original Sansa Clip and love them. Great for the gym or running plus cheap enough if you drop a weight on it you can replace it without breaking the bank. How much storage do you need beause "iPod" could mean a lot of things like a shuffle, nano, Touch, Classic, etc.

What do people do to automatically get podcasts and organize music without iTunes? I would get a clip just from reading some of the posts here, but that's the only thing I'm worried about. I have all my podcast feeds set up in iTunes. The music I'm not so worried about. I don't have that much now and I need to reorganize anyway. My nano is the squareish one and 8GB so it's running out now. 8GB clip and 16GB SD would be a massive upgrade.
