I guess since everything else was so lovely the textures didn't seem all that bad. In fact, when I first played the game back in 2005 or so I remember being really impressed by the graphics... even though in places they look like something out of the original Max Payne, or some random Half-Life mod. Speaking of Half-Life, Half-Life 2 now looks incredibly lovely when I play it on my new system. Everybody and everything has this splotchy, grainy look even at the highest texture resolution. I guess that's just a product of being an early Source game, same as Vampire.

I was a very big fan of the DM Client in Neverwinter Nights, and was always a bit curious about the Storyteller mode in Vampire: Redemption. Has anyone ever ran a few sessions or even a campaign with it, and if so, how was it? Man, I wish more games would offer a feature like that. Hoping that the new Neverwinter game may offer it at some point in the future. Baron von der Loon fucked around with this message at 15:42 on Mar 30, 2011 |

Yeah, you're totally right about that. I remembered the game as really good-looking, although the areas felt a bit too tight. When I played it last week it looked like a mod. Sure, the lighting is still very atmospheric in places, but the environments feel even smaller now, like it's all taking place in a scale model of a city. I gotta hand it to them on some of the buildings though, since the unique tall buildings look really imposing. The animated skybox overlooking the city from Hollywood is pretty nice too.

The game particularly shows its age when you go up to a fence and can literally see that the scenery on the other side is a texture with a few low-resolution models added in for "depth". It looks like a theater backdrop. All that nitpicking aside, the game is every bit as good gameplay and dialogue-wise as it was back then, or even better with all the extra stuff put back in.

(but also much harder to build because it wasn't all tile based) It males me really sad that the whole online GMed RPG client concept has died a horrible death... I would kill for some sort of online setup like that with a mod friendly ruleset.

drat, seeing this thread is making me want to play again with new mods. It has been a long while since I've played a Brujah or Gangrel. One thing I'm not sure of, do abilities max at 5 points or can stuff like Auspex take it to 7? I think I've always put like 3 points into stuff because it was getting raised by a power because I was never really sure.

You can only put 5 points into things. Powers can raise that above 5, like Blood Buff adding 5 to your physical stats.

Sweet, so I have been gimping myself on previous games. I should have asked a long time ago. Playing with the new mods and stuff. Started a Brujah which I haven't done since the game came out. Some of the new music is cool though I had to track down the Deb at night files and put them back in. I thought deleting the files would work but the radio just wouldn't play after that. I'm glad I noticed this thread and reinstalled it. This has always been one of my favorite older games along with Deus Ex, SS2, Thief and the Red Alert addon with the giant ants.

Just started this game. I played a bit a year ago but nothing substantial. Ventrue gut-puncher. The game so far has been hilariously easy. Dominate pretty much wrecks everything. I got the Hollywood and I'm being attacked by women in black with torches? I have no violations of my Masquerade, so I'm wondering if this is some kind of unrelated event from hunters. They're getting to be a pain in the rear end. I can't even do my nightly Red Stop shopping for Grapple juice without seeing one or two of these crazies. I'm about to descend into the sewers soon, too. Wish me luck. I stopped on the sewers last time because gently caress them.

What isn't working about it? Error when installing, or loading up the game and it's the wrong res?

I managed to get the patch to download, but now I'm having a new error. Initially I was getting the "15MB!!!" error, which I thought I fixed after installing a patch for it. The game kept crashing whenever I'd try to run it. So I checked windows compatibility mode, but I'm having the same problem. edit: Used the unofficial patch and now it seems to be working. Just need to figure out a widescreen fix and I'm golden. Verisimilidude fucked around with this message at 19:50 on Apr 8, 2011 |

Alright, I'm definitely not using the "Online Class" thing in the Camarilla mod again. They went way, way overboard with the blood cost to level up. I tried one of the classes out, and it immediately drained all my blood and health and I immediately frenzied and drained Heather. Then I heard the cops outside, so I just said to hell with it and quit the game. The blood cost thing is stupid enough (it should be money and nothing more), but to completely drain you to the point of frenzy is just stupid.

I haven't fiddled with that mod yet, am I correct in assuming this means they allow you to raise skills by feverishly pounding through the coursework of an online course in one sitting? Does it still cost exp, or just drain blood to simulate the passage of time?

They cost differing amounts of money per rank, up to $1,300 I think and 10pts of blood. Its great for all of that unused money to fill out a few 4th/5th point skills.

Thanks for the game recommendation, been playing for all week, love it! Really cool area/level designs, standout moments so far: - Haunted hotel, really cool. - Just last night I actully jumped when bumping into that raptor in the museum. - Escaping from burning asylum. - Being low on blood and slaugtering the 3 guys I was trying to sneak past in a frenzy. - I have my slave ghoul hanging around in panties natch (I expect every does that once) Just loads of nice touches throughout. Couple of questions, im playing with the carmela (sp?) mod basically the setup recommended in op, as a Toreador class with uncanny dodge sub-class. 1) Who is this mad bitch with the stun prod who keeps trying to kill me? 2) Ive noticed mention of class specific houses, does the Toreador get one or is he stuck in the start flat. 3) How do I kill the record executive in the confessions club as the 3rd mob hit quest, I cant work that one out and dont want to flick though walkthoughs and spoil things. Tremere and Nosferatu can get their own clan-specific apartments, but otherwise, you can get a pad in the Downtown map by toadying up enough to LaCroix.

I cant find the "office block next to the parking lot" they descrie where the first target is. Also, I finished the toreador quest, I think, unless something pops up later. Voice acting was...odd, the guy who did Isaccs extra lines was nearly spot on, as were some of the others, then theres this girl you meet at a party who sounds like someone voiced her reading her lines over the telephone. Also, to make the dorkiest nitpick ever, to continue the conversation you have to hint to her that you're also a vampire, which seems inconsistant with that kindred in this game seem to normally be able to recognise each other straight away. massive spider fucked around with this message at 13:36 on Apr 10, 2011 |

I was going for the be-your-own boss ending where you snub everybody so I remained pretty neutral to LaCroix, and for the first time I didn't get that swank apartment Downtown. It was pretty much the standard thing I'd get on every playthrough, so it kind of sucks not having it this time. On the other hand, there are plenty of reasons to go back to Santa Monica and not-so-many reasons to go Downtown after completing everything there. Pisha and collecting from Confessions is about it. Santa Monica has Mercurio, the Blood Bank and the long-running mission thread for Kilpatrick among other things.

So far this game is awesome, however one thing it does not do well is Russian accents. The voice acting for these Russian mobsters I just waxed for the buxom night club owner are hilariously bad. Also, the fact that they colorize dialog options where you can use your Vampiric powers to coerce someone makes it far to easy to use. Something in blue? Oh let's try that to get what I want, success!

Everything else is just from your skills in persuasion, intimidation, seduction or whatever. Unless you're using Dementation or Dominate, there's a chance your dialogue option could fail. The colors I can remember offhand: Green - Intimidate Pink - Seduce Red - Dementation Blue - Persuade ? - Dominate This is briefly mentioned at the very beginning of the game if you do Jack's tutorial, but it's easy to miss even then.
