Carrot has sounded Welsh to me ever since I played Discworld 1 (god that game was insanely hard) and all the Dwarves have all sorts of Irish, Scottish and Northern English accents in my head.

I did enjoy Caorryth, but I've heard him as Lieutenant George from Blackadder Goes Forth, except not quite so public school. The Discworld games did dwarves terribly though, all squeaky voiced and 'orrible. I try not to voice them in my head because being Irish I hear quite enough of that kind of gravelly/lilting nonsense on my own thank you very much.

He'll just forget how to write the books and who Vimes is and who he is himself and then he's going to live like five years more and that sucks even more. Such a loving useless disease.

If you've ever seen a man who's got twenty grand put aside to travel to somewhere nice and alpine-scented where a chap in a white coat will play some soothing music for you while you make the decision to go out on your own terms, it's this man. Pterry isn't going to go out a mumbling wreck. Feel good for him about that.

Alzheimers is nothing more than a minor annoyance to him. That program where he traveled around a bit looking at some of the scientific research and delaying cures for the disease was a facinating look into his life behind the books. The mans rolls with two monitors on his computer set up for example.

He plays Oblivion on that awesome bastard of a computer, I remember an article he wrote in SFX about all the really obscure mods people had made that expanded on minute stuff and how cool that was. I like the idea that Terry Pratchett has downloaded a mod that lets you be a farmer or something in Oblivion or that he has been disgusted by all the porn mods available.

John Charity Spring posted:Don't worry about Small Gods. You'll love it. You were right. The first 3/4 of the book I just thought it was a better written version of Pyramids, and was worried I was going to get shouted at by the Small Gods fanatics in this thread. The ending however pure perfection and I've just spent the last hour with a giant grin on my face. I think it's definitely a book to read twice just so I can re-read the first part of the book again knowing how great the end is. So that takes me 13 books in: 1. The Colour of Magic: 4/10 - Hard to read, cheesy, no plot. 2. The Light Fantastic: 8/10 - Saved TCoM by adding a decent plot. 3. Equal Rites: 8/10 - Really liked Equal Rites, even if most don't. Liked the strong female characters, it was a nice change from the bumbling Wizards. 4. Mort: 10/10 - My favorite book so far. Death is so likeable it's disturbing. Fun ending. 5. Sourcery: 6/10 - There was a little too much "world-ending peril" in this for me to take it seriously. 6. Wyrd Sisters 9/10 - Great characters, great plot. 7. Pyramids 4/10 - Poor characters, poor plot. 8. Guards! Guards 8/10 - Really likeable characters. The plot was ok, but I think I was spoiled by having just played the Discworld game. 9. Eric 6/10 - Great premise, ok book. 10. Moving Pictures 7/10 - I came into this expecting to hate it, but it won me over in the end. The bit with the giant Ginger climbing up the Tower of Art with the librarian had me in stitches. Dibbler, Gaspode, and Detritus were all really fantastic in it too. 11. Reaper Man 9/10 - Everything about this book was fantastic. Zombie Windle Poons and all the "undead" characters were brilliant, Bill Door's relationship with Miss Flitworth was really touching. This would be my favorite so far if it wasn't for the fairytale feel of Mort. 12. Witches Abroad 9/10 - I wasn't ready for another Witches book when I got to this one, but I ended up absolutely loving it and am looking forward to Lords and Ladies next. The Witches characters went from being a little bit flat to being really well developed. I love all the little linguistic jokes, and this book was full of them. It also had the great fairy tale feel that I loved in Mort and Wyrd Sisters. 13. Small Gods 8/10 - I think I need to re-read it before going higher than 8/10. Woohoo, 1/3rd of the way through.

Truedat. The most used line from the book in my head, though, is the shaky-handed "Slae, everything must og!" I read the book last over ten years ago and I cannot go past any sale without that popping in my head.

I also love the Witches so I'm pretty much in Discworld heaven right now. Nilbop posted:"What can the harvest hope for, if not the care of the reaper man?" Definitely. Much lower-brow, but another great part for me was - IT'S A SKELETAL STEED. IMPRESSIVE BUT IMPRACTICAL. I HAD ONE ONCE BUT THE HEAD FELL OFF. 'A bit like flogging a dead horse, I should think.' HA. HA. MOST AMUSING, MISS FLITWORTH. I remember laughing out loud and then having that laugh turn into a sort of "aww" when I realised that it was probably the first time anyone had made Death laugh, or at least care enough about them to pretend to laugh.

He looks pretty much the same there as he does on the cover of Thud doesn't he, the artist they have now pretty much draws him as Clint Eastwood. I like how once we've read it all the chickens, boat, weird gremlin on his shoulder and tidal wave behind him will all make sense.

Scar over his eye = post Night Watch. Come on people, that's clearly the current Sam Vimes. Let's not mess about with time travel theories when we should be wondering what the hell he's doing on a paddleboat riding a flash flood in a valley with a flock of chickens. Perhaps a return to Uberwald? Or just a trip to the Copperheads? I can't think of anywhere on the Sto Plains that has that kind of geography. Terry has been hinting at a lot of stuff re: the Unholy Empire in recent books.

No luck so far, I have found : 'Western Avenue, Road to Damascus' An interview with Terry regarding his childhood from the Times Saturday Review, July 1990. 'From the Mind of Terry Pratchett' A big 3 page article all about the Terry and the Discworld from the Guardian Weekend, October 1993. 'For Fans by Fans' An interview / article with Terry from PC Home Magazine about the upcoming Discworld game, and general tech stuff, December 1994. Things also found in the loft included some toy cars ( Scale models I'll have you know!) of the General Lee and Back to the Future Delorian which my boys can destroy, a box full of terrible novels from my youth and a radio controlled tiger tank. So not an entirely wasted trip. No idea where that PC Gamer article is though, I'll take another look next time I'm feeling brave enough to go digging up there but I fear it may be lost.

That hourglass is the most intriguing thing on the cover. It's pure speculation, but knowing Sam, he's out to save someone from an unjust Death. And it's been said that Sam would arrest anyone.
