Any recommendations for anything that sounds like The Wrens, specifically The Meadowlands? I love this album, and haven't heard anything that has the same sound.

The other day on a whim I picked up some Happy Hardcore compilation. My days of listening to dance music are long over but this is pretty fun. What are some good compilation albums or even normal albums of really danceable, 'hard-hitting' music? (not that it needs to be just gabber/hardstyle/rave/whatever. it could be electro or house or whatever.) Preferably not stuff that all sounds pretty much the exact same... in terms of dance music anyway.

edit:
vvvvv Actually Bonkers 13 is the compilation I was referring to that got me in this bent in the first place. I'll check out the other one though.

I like putting the song Endless Flight (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJl-yvWxJx4) on Endlessvideo.com (repeats forever and ever) when studying, because it's the same thing over and over again, which makes it good for white noise. I'd like something with a bit more tempo though, like a drum beat that just keeps on going without going off into solos or anything like that. Any ideas for a drum beat I can have on repeat for hours on end?

the Happy 2b Hardcore comps are always a good start. also, you can go for the Bonkers mixes which I think there are about 3000 of now.

Both Bloody Gears and The Estranged are two modern bands who are very similar to Wipers, Bloody Gears almost to the point that they sound like a cover band. Their singer's voice is a dead ringer for Greg Sage's.

Heys knowledgeable music goons! I've been wondering what everyone here can recommend for driving music, and what everyone listens to when they're driving.

I'm really open to anything but I am looking for some bands or songs with more upbeat styles that's fun and fast, like the feeling of an open road you speed along.

Sorry if this is a little vague, but hey, you never know! Thanks in advance :)

Look into Kyuss then, cause if Kyuss isn't good driving (rock) music, I don't know what is. I know you didn't specifically say 'rock music' but there you go.

I'm not really a big fan of The Doors. In fact, I'm really not a fan of The Doors at all. That said, I'm hard pressed to think of a better driving song than L.A. Woman. If that doesn't make you want to cruise up PCH with the top down, I don't know what does.

Mark Stewart might work, might be a bit old school though. He doesn't do a lot of rapping, but it's a collaboration with some guy who worked with Grandmaster Flash, so instrumentally its hip hop. Forward thinking guy, not a lot of white dudes in the experimental scene really touched on hip hop.

Look in your rearview mirror. See that spot about 50 years back? Hell yes you do, that's the time of the big swingers, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and all the rest of the gang. You can't go wrong with putting the top down and cranking up some of these classic tunes:

Hey goons, I'm trying to find some new music but I can't really find anything and last.fm isn't being helpful. I guess I have a bit of an alt/indie/rock bent, and lately I've been listening to an enjoying

Deerhunter, Warpaint, Modest Mouse, Portugal the Man, a bit of the Dresden Dolls

And I've always been a big fan of Sonic Youth, Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone age, Smashing Pumpkins and Franz Ferdinand

I'd really just like anything new to listen to that might sort of gel in with that lot or be really interesting by itself.

Pretty Little Lyres
(had no success in the Punk megathread, reposting here)

Can anyone recommend any current/recent (last five years) bands that would fit roughly into the Oi! genre?

As goofy as it is, I'm kind of fond of old-school Oi! and pre-Oi! (Sham 69, etc). Are there many/any recent bands that recapture that sound? Looking for a really minimalist, strong upbeat (boom-CHUCK), rapid drumming, power chording sort of sound with anthemic lyrics.

Of the more recent ones I've run across by Wikipedia, oddly enough there's a decent Japanese Oi! band, Samurai Attack, so I figure the sound isn't totally dead.

Failing that, and while I'm here anyway, can anyone recommend a good hardcore, strong upbeat, sort of band, some latter-day Minor Threat descendant?

I'm sure you already know them, but Youth of Today are vaguely like that.

As for me, looking for non-German bands with strong Krautrock influences (mainly Neu! or Can). I asked for bands that sound like Neu! a while ago, but I'm looking more specifically for bands like the first Bowery Electric album or Stereolab. Bands with that funky Can drumming or the mechanical Neu! style.
