I'm not much of a 280ZX fan(much prefer 240Zs and 1600 roadsters), but this looks interesting.

How much would parts cost and how hard is it to fix said problems?

The mountain of money you'll spend on fixing the rust is unmentionable. Those things rust from inside out until the frame separates while you're driving.

Yeah, my friend had a 280ZX for a while. It ran pretty good, but we could Fred Flintstones brake from both the driver and passenger seats.

Any car that sits for more than a few days will gets rust on the discs. In some climates, like Gulf Coast, it can happen in a few hours. It doesn't hurt anything.

Whoa there, I hope you're certified by the EPA to purchase that R-12!
http://www.epa.gov/ozone/title6/608/sales/sales.html

Ironically, my friend paid to take some test and get certified just so he could buy the stuff for his '93 sentra. Didn't even bother to address the problem with his A/C system leaking, though.

A few thousand miles later, its transmission blew...

Yes......all of us who buy Freon at flea markets and craigslist are certified.....thats the ticket.

Also, I apply for permits from the city every time I change a light fixture or replace rotting window trim as I am legally required to do.

Thanks, I'll check out what they have next week; most M116/M117 engines & parts should be compatible if I want that project. Last time I was there they had a yellow euro 300d that had its rare manual transmission yanked. Would have been a bolt-on swap for my 300cd.

Also, copart gold for a running 210k 4-speed 1983 240d with an IL title. No bids and it's on the auction block at 12:00 this Friday:

Five-speed car? drat. Not surprised the transmission wasn't there. If you are looking for a manual four-speed there is a 240d on craigs being parted.

It's OK, but it's not great. 2k for a decent body for a 900S non-turbo for that area is a bit high - $1500 is 'about right' for Huntsville. Check KBB for ideas for local pricing. That is a nice looking car - and it's not one of those awful 3 speed autos they had, but I wouldn't pay an extra $500 for the rack.

The biggest issue you're going to have is several parts are no longer availa ble for C900s - and can be hard to find, or you'll get raped by someone else in the cult-o-saab whose been hoarding parts for the last decade or so.
