Just the fact that he's so energetic and posi and demanding stage dives left and right is what makes me enjoy seeing them even though I don't really care to listen to them ever. Buried Alive >

I just recently got into TIJ a few months back. Pretty exciting that they have new stuff out already, gonna check it out. e: aaaaaaand I'm disappointed. They went from ripping off August Burns Red to ripping off As I Lay Dying, which is a step back in my opinion, plus the super punchy vocals which I loved before have been replaced by some raspy rear end unsatisfying vocals ShoogaSlim fucked around with this message at 05:52 on Apr 21, 2011 |

Gotta say I was let down too. The difference in the vocals is what killed it for me. They've always sounded a lot like August Burns Red, but I think a lot of that has to do with Adam Gray (TIJ's drummer) and Matt Greiner (ABR's drummer) being good buddies, so they have a super similar style. Plus, the spoken prayer part in No Greater Love pretty much instantly killed that track for me (but that might be what I get for being a godless heathen listening to a Christian band). Here's hoping the new ABR cd is better. XIII fucked around with this message at 06:41 on Apr 21, 2011 |

I tried listening to the latest Impending Doom album and distinctly heard the word "nonbelievers" and decided to look up the lyrics. Some poo poo about there will be violence for the non believers or some crazy batshit nonsense... I listen to a good amount of christian bands, Underoath and Emery are two of my favorite bands but I immediately deleted every mp3 by Impending Doom after reading those lyrics. Mother Eff that noise.

I seem to remember the previous album had decent/non-annoying lyrics and it definitely had better music so you might want to give that one a try if you haven't. I did kinda like the lyrics on the song "The Great Fear" though and it was kind of funny/awesome that it feature Vincent from the Acacia Strain because, you know...

Impending Doom is a decent deathcore band but they're definitely unoriginal. I was really into their first album for a while and then got a little bored of it. I saw them live and the performance didn't measure up and I pretty much stopped listening altogether. I'll definitely check out the track with Vincent for lolz.

So I know this isn't PYF, but this topic seems a bit niche for it's own thread, so what are some of y'alls favorite breakdowns? I'm particularly fond of the one that starts after the 2:50 mark in Leica by The Faceless: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUBRVhP0i84

I like that even though Underoath started out really preachy with their lyrics back in the day, they're much less pushy about it nowadays. Whenever I've seen them live they just give a quick shout out/reminder before playing their last song and don't really make a huge deal about it. The Hills Have Eyes by Acacia Strain has probably my favorite breakdown on the entire new album. Check this video of them playing it in Alabany. The breakdown in question starts at 3:04 and just like 2 or 3 seconds after you see some douchebag jump up onto the stage and then immediately hop into the crowd. That douchebag is me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J65ddIMoJCk

I like breakdowns, but it's hard to really pick favorites because so many of them sound so similar. At the moment the one that is stuck in my head is Number Twelve Looks Like You "To Catch a Tiger" 3:15 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VU2nZC1lEcc That bass drop right before it rattles my whole house. Love it. Miss this band I also love the breakdown in Rolo Tomassi's "French Motel" :28 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jS41WBykp6w I love it when I can't follow or predict the rhythmic pattern. Makes breakdowns much more fun and flavorful. oh yeah, and HORSE the band "Octopus on fire" 1:30 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8ALQDsdYls I like the dog panting sounds and the rhythm of the guitar

The Ghost Inside's The Lion War breakdown. So sick, they use it as an intro for their set. If this poo poo doesn't get your blood flowing, well.....we have nothing more to say to each other. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUsYIQoG4tM

"Through the Cracks" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Q3oJG53V8c 1:10 and 2:48 "Faith and Forgiveness" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-63ccY-9TQ 2:24 As for other bands, there's always the classic Stick to Your Guns breakdown from This is More. Check out this video though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqXeIAJgnWw I wish shows like this happened in New England. Beneath the Massacre - Nevermore (1:16) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3E-kKDEKcs Live video kinda sucks but I couldn't find anything better on youtube except for an older version on the song. Despised Icon - Day of Mourning (2:18) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEM9W14TsWQ I got to see this song live once (RIP) and it made the whole room explode. loving surreal. All in all, I'd have to say Despised Icon, The Ghost Inside, and August Burns Red make my favorite breakdowns. Also comedy option We Butter the Bread with Butter - Das Ende (2:01) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsRFPWgXZj8

I haven't seen them in years, but after TAS put out 3750 they seemed to be somewhere on the bill of half shows I went to for like a year and a half. I didn't like them at first, but after the 3rd or 4th time I kind of "got" it. Last time I saw them was 2007 sounds of the underground in Worcester and I almost got kicked out. I don't even mosh or dance. It's just that something about Car Bomb makes me jump of things and/or people. I used to seem them at a place down the road from Northern Lights, Saratoga Winners. I hate NL, but it's the only venue around there now. Edit: forgot the youtube link I meant to post. TAS - Car Bomb because in a discussion of metalcore breakdowns, you need a song that's nothing but a minute long breakdown. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMarRgF1tEU Kevar fucked around with this message at 21:29 on May 1, 2011 |
