Everyone knows what it is and has at least seen one episode. Also George watches and cries over home alone.

wa27 posted:Was/is Seinfeld very popular in the UK (or other countries, for that matter)? It always seemed like a very American show with humor that might be lost on international audiences, but I'm probably wrong. Keep in mind that the U.S. exports a lot more media than it imports, and has for decades, as well as the fact that the U.S. tends to remake or "translate" foreign works at a higher rate than other countries (by "translate," I mean English to English changes like rewriting Harry Potter to have sweaters and Sorceror's Stones instead of jumpers and Philosopher's Stones, etc.) As a result of this, and the U.S.'s role on the world stage in general, U.S. humour tends to cross borders better because the context isn't as specialist. People outside the U.S. are generally more familiar with U.S. politics, society, and pop culture than Americans are with politics, society, and pop culture abroad. For instance, when I first watched the show, I had never heard of Bosco before, and I didn't know that Joel Rifkin or George Steinbrenner were real people, but those episodes didn't really require that prior knowledge to be funny. But Superman and Star Trek and JFK, and gym culture and Moviefone and New York (TV) culture were pre-existing exports.

Where could I be? Believe it or not, I'm not home! I've tried to hard to make this my answering machine (voicemail) message, but: 1) I do sometimes get professional calls on my cell phone 2) I don't know where to find a good instrumental "Greatest American Hero" theme to sing over.

Just watched The Soul Mate. Great episode. ELAINE: Well, I hear three distinct sounds. A low rumple...followed by a metallic 'squink'... GEORGE: Yes! Yes, I heard the 'squink'! --------- JERRY (points at the Power Ranger): Wait, that's you? GEORGE: Yeah. JERRY (picks up a yellow M&M toy from the model): I really think the M&M should be you. --------- Has anyone else ever considered doing the briefcase trick?

Yeah this conversation thread died awhile ago, but whatever. You guys forgot about... ELAINE: Hey, Kramer, listen, you've seen The Omen right? ELAINE: What exactly was that kid? KRAMER: Who, Damien? Nothing, just a mischievous, rambunctious kid. Kramer's confident delivery of there being nothing out of the ordinary about Damien just kills me.
