But LOL at his asking price.

You'd need to swap it to the Japanese bumpers but you could have this after a bit of paintwork. I'm sure most of the internals are pretty similar to a 240Z so drop a done out L20 and a manual in there and you'd have a wicked car. The fact that he suggests that itd make a good drift car or racecar is sort of stupid. That car needs to be restored, not only would it be worth a fair amount now but with the rising prices of Japanese classic cars I'm sure it'll be worth a fair bit in a few years in good shape, regardless, you'd probably have the only one on the road in a large area around you, and its a unique but also good looking car.

I looked at some used car websites in Japan where theres tons of classic cars in amazing shape (the only way to keep them road legal) for sale, but I can't even find an S10 Silvia for sale there, they are rare as hell.

Which is why only idiots buy them outright. The only viable option is to lease and then let the leasing company try and offload it to some sucker who doesn't know what depreciation is.

That said, I'd love to try out a 760Li or an S65, something that big was never meant to move that fast.

My guess (and only a guess) is it's probably just as reliable as most other BMWs of the same vintage.

If you look at it this way, it's lost roughly 2/3 of its MSRP. Without doing a lot of research that's probably not incredibly off the curve of many other luxury cars depreciation, it's just scary when we're looking at the $$$ involved.

Edit: Of course the $200K the owner is saying it was originally was utter BS, just commenting on the real depreciation. :)

Not knowing how taxes work in Canadaland, perhaps he was including sales tax, registration, and a few gently caress-you fees from the dealership in that $200k number? It doesn't seem completely unreasonable for someone who wasn't doing a very good job of haggling to get an out-the-door number somewhere not far from $200k on a car with MSRP of $118k. 10% sales tax gets you almost to $130k right off.

I decided to option out a 760 on the BMW website.

Base MSRP $137,300
Azurite Black Metallic $1,800
.Platinum Full Merino Leather $0
.Dark Red Sycamore Wood trim $0
.BMW Individual Composition $6,500
.Rear Entertainment Package $2,200
.Active Cruise Control $2,400
.Massaging rear seat $200
.Smartphone Integration $0
.BMW Apps $250
.Night Vision with Pedestrian Detection $2,600
.BMW Carpeted Floor Mats with BMW Lettering Heel Pad $224
.BMW Wood Selector $204
.BMW Base Support System $280
.BMW Limited Edition Bluetooth® Headset $96
.BMW Wireless Headphones for Factory Installed Rear Entertainment System $120
.BMW Luggage Rack $412
.BMW Ski and Snowboard Holder $188
.BMW Star Spoke 311 in Chrome $7,475
.BMW Maintenance Program Upgrade $2,495
.Destination & Handling: $875
Total MSRP as Built $165,620

Could :v:only:v: add about $30k. And a lot of those are sort of frilly.

Out of curiosity, I also optioned out a base 911, and could only add $32k of extras.

The sheer number of 911 models available in a given year itself is staggering... prices range from $77,800 MSRP to $245,000MSRP. Good lord.
