I can see how people who don't like Heidecker and Neil Hamburger would have hated it, but then, maybe those people shouldn't try to listen to something clearly marked as an hour of them talking. vv

CDR has just been on such a roll lately that this seemed like a step backwards. If this were episode 50 or something I would've just listened to a bit of it and moved on to the next one with Nick Kroll or PFT in it. It was still funny but not on par with the recent episodes. I've had a lot of time to kill at work lately and I love going through the old episodes. Chupacabra and Cake Boss riffing off each other is probably the highlight of CDR as a whole for me.

Seeing the new CDR pop up with the guests is the highlight of my podcasting week, and I groaned internally when I saw this week's lineup. Listening to the entire run, I've turned around on some people I didn't otherwise like just because the overall episode worked or some other guest was able to hold it together, but TH/NH didn't give me enough to go on. Still, CDR is my favourite, and I say this as someone who didn't initially enjoy guests with funny voices but eventually did a complete 180. Just wanted to echo the love for King Lou while I'm postin'. You're my favourite of the goon podcasts, and co-workers popping by while you're reading something vile is my favourite accidental running joke of your show. Did you get some good hate mail from the latest Tea Party show, or is it below their radar?

Is Tim Heidecker's album supposed to be funny? I can't tell if it is just cheesy music or if he's doing a satire of it.

I really like all the music on Tim and Eric ASGJ but the Heidecker and Wood songs Scott has played so far on CDRR are all just too straight-faced for me to enjoy. If the stuff he was parodying was something worth listening to I'd probably be able to get in to it, but it's like listening to someone recreate an easy-listening station.

God, I know the feeling. I think I get why people think Tim & Eric are brilliant, and they do show some flashes of genius now and again, but I am just not in on the joke with that kind of humor for the most part. It's funny because it's stupid and I hate it but I don't hate it because it's making fun of stuff I like because it's bad but they do such a good job of making fun of that stuff that it's bad again but then it's good again because... I'm probably putting too much thought into it. I never understood why Rickrolling was supposed to be funny either, but the people who told me I was stupid for not getting it couldn't explain it to me.

I've been listening to UYD lately and it's finally growing on me. I'd only really heard about it from this thread so started listening from ep 1. At first I was put off by all the "fag" and "homo" terms they were throwing around but it doesn't seem as harsh anymore. It's pretty funny and the news they talk about is surprisingly timeless. It's still 2006 where I'm at, yet doesn't seem out of date. I'll probably check out their next live show. Speaking of live shows, went to my first Paul F Tompkins show at Largo this past weekend. It was pretty good. I think I prefer to see him just do stand-up, but I'll probably catch another of these variety shows if the guests sound interesting. This time he had Andy Richter and Kaitlin Olson who were both really funny. Highlight for me is that he started the show behind the drawn curtain with "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today..." doing the Prince "Let's Go Crazy" monologue. Prince is in town doing like 20 shows so he just did this long funny Prince intro.

Wow, the recent CDR was pretty bad. The Billy-Bob Thornton style interview was a really good idea milked completely dry after a few minutes or so. Also, who the gently caress is Neil Hamburger and do people think he is funny? Or is he 'funny' in the ironic hipster sense? With regards to the music in the episodes, I can't be the only one who fast-forewards directly to the music bits. To me, those parts are my favorite - almost on par with the amazing plugs section.

I laughed like a loon all the way through that Alive or Dead segment. People responding to Scott's games as though they aren't in on the joke is hilarious. I do think the parody interview at the beginning went on too long, but even that I got a few laughs from.

Yannick_B posted:What is funny in the ironic hipster sense? "Oh I get it, he's a comedian that purposely isn't funny. How ironic. That's really funny." Honestly, I echo the sentiment that I don't 'get' the anti-comedy of your Tim and Erics, Neil Hamburgers, or Andy Kaufmans (who I assume Neil Hamburger is essentially ripping off). To me just doing something to get a rise from the audience/listener isn't funny. It's just annoying and not nearly as clever as they think it is. Not the worst episode for me, but somewhere near the bottom.

Neil Hamburger is a lot better with an audience since most of the fun in anti-humor is playing off people's reactions to it, which is why I think this thread is really funny right now.

I'd rather listen to Winnie the Whiny Baby from that live episode than either Tim or Eric. Neil Hamburger is great when he's doing standup, but CDRR isn't the best venue for standup. Scott was still able to save an almost horrible episode with Dead or Alive. I was hoping for another French Stewart callback.

Believe it or not, people are able to enjoy ironic and meta humor without doing so just to be in on the joke. Sometimes it's actually funny.
