Silly article on classics on Blu: http://hollywood-elsewhere.com/2011/04/end_of_an_era.php Some good points are brought up, but I don't think a lot of people understand the work that goes into restorations and remasters. Sony took a year to compile and scan Lawrence of Arabia in 8K and it's taking another year to clean for next year's Blu. Part of the slowness is simply needing to take more time. Criterion alone released 23 features last year from 1970 and earlier. This year, they'll already be at 21 features by July. Paramount is slow, but they won't release a classic until it's gone through 4K or 6K cleanup like The Ten Commandments or The African Queen.

The Godfather trilogy is up on Amazon UK for £17.99, i'm quite tempted at this, but I've already spent too much on Blu this month, plus I need to start saving for LOTR Extended's.

The Digital Bits confirms Fox is working on a remastered Patton for release before the end of the year. The digibook coming in a few weeks is the same old disc, though. I'm guessing it's for a replacement program since that's extremely stupid to put out more copies of the DVNRed-to-Hell edition at the same time a remaster is in the works.

Fantastic, I was wondering if we were ever gonna see Reefer Madness live get a DVD release, but Blu-Ray's even better- those shorts were way too good.

Found a bunch of great movies at my local used media store. Got Prince of Persia, Prestige, Scott Pilgrim, and Jumper for $15 or under ($5 in Jumper's case), and also nabbed The American and King's Speech.

Why is Zodiac out of print in Canada They've even removed the listing from sites like Future Shop and HMV. Is it hard to find in the States as well? Is it a distributor thing? I know Amazon still has copies, I'm just curious...

Going from £17-£35-£17, managed to nap it whilst it's still £17 again. Also picked up Harry Potter Years 1-7 part 1 for £35, will probably be cheaper now than getting the complete set at £70 when the 2nd half comes out.

The best we can hope for would be Animal Crackers and Horse Feathers to finally be remastered. Although, their Paramount films are supposed to be 1.20:1 except for Duck Soup. Universal remastered The Cocoanuts and Monkey Business for the 2003 box set, but cropped to 1.33:1.

Digital Bits announced that Twilight Zone: Season 5 is set for an 8/30 release, and that his industry sources are telling him the Marx Brothers movies on blu-ray ARE in the works. More here: http://thedigitalbits.com/#mytwocents Edit: He also notes that the upcoming American Graffiti release had its transfer and restoration overseen by George Lucas, so hopefully that means it's not the usual half-assed Universal release. If the release is as great as it's sounding, it will probably be the first truly great thing George Lucas has done in well over a decade.

I'm guessing more supplements are to be announced? There's no mention of the 1983 "From Star Wars to Jedi" documentary or the 2004 DVD's "Empire of Dreams". It would be odd to leave them off while including the other vintage docs. That's neat that there's a whole section on parodies.

I'm kinda hoping some of this stuff is included on the supplemental discs for each trilogy, because there were a lot of really good docs that aren't listed at all here. The best one of course being 'The Beginning' from the Phantom Menace DVD, in which you get to watch Lucas make a ton of terrible decisions to the withering nods of the exhausted people around him. It'd be a shame if that wasn't included.

How many SW boxes are released per year anyway?) had the theatrical releases also. Or did I dream that up? If I didn't dream that up, I can't see why Lucas wouldn't transfer the old movies too. (....) I kinda grew out of Star Wars quite some time ago, but still wouldn't mind paying up for this Blu Ray box, as my only SW copies are the VHS from 1997, and they kinda in bad shape. But no theatrical release, no money!

All promotional materials assume that there is no "original" original trilogy and that the only original trilogy that exists is the "special" original trilogy. The only releases of the real movies have been the last VHS release (that I bought when I was in high school) and a special dvd release from a few years ago where the original versions were included as "special features" but were actually the sole inducements to buy the dvds.
