^^^ I love the dumbass names I give to things in my head as I knit stuff like that. For example something I'm knitting right now is: skpo, k, yo, k, etc. In my head I think 'knit' and 'yarn over' for k and yo just fine but every time I get to skpo I think 'skippo'.

To try to get everyone to love (or at least not despise decreases), I have two blog posts for you guys. For RS decreases, there's Fleegle's No Fault Decreases, which basically changed everything about how I do my decreases in lace and socks. She's also done a huge series on purl decreases: Purl Decreases which gives a bunch more options for left and right leaning WS decreases. Maybe I just really like decreases I'm not weird.

Nah, not weird. I like them sometimes but more than any other stitch I feel like I have these times where I have to do it three times to get the new stitch to come all the way through. Even with those drat Addi Turbo Lace needles (which also make my left index finger hurt because apparently I HAVE TO PUSH ON THE NEEDLE WITH IT ALWAYS).SilverSliver posted:^^^ I love the dumbass names I give to things in my head as I knit stuff like that. Hah, I do this too! Also I say things (ok, mumble things to myself) in the rhythm that I knit them, if that makes sense. Like, if it's K2yoK2tog or something, I'll go "Knit (knit the first stitch) two (knit the second stitch) yarn (bring the yarn forward) over (bring the yarn to the back again) knittwotogether (knit two together). I wonder if it has to do with being a musician or what. Ok I don't want to double post so I'll just edit: Look at all the goddam loot I won last week: Huge fuckoff knitting bag: Issues 17-29 of The Knitter and the last four issues of Debbis Bliss: Two skeins of Takhi Donegal Tweed: A skein of this stuff that makes ruffles (no idea what I'll do with this): Crazy German sock yarn on a wheel: 100g of gossamer weight pink merino: Skein of DK weight 100% silk: 100g of worsted weight cotton from Shafer yarns in the colorway "Sharri Lewis" (the happiest yarn I've ever seen): I feel like six awesome Christmasses all happened at once. That's some great stuff you've got there, Bob. I am jealous. In the meantime, I am knitting a scarf of RYC Alpaca Soft which is very nice, except you don't get much for your money. I have four balls and think I may have to use all of them for one scarf - I was planning on making a hat to go with it. One ball gets you about 14 inches of 32-stitch wide K2P2 rib. Still, I'm sure I can always order some more before knitted hat weather comes around.

Jeez, I think the thing that makes me most jealous is the gossamer lace. I'm a total loon for lace of all sorts, and the finer the more I like it.

I've never used goassamer weight before! Only laceweight (and that only two and a half times). Of course, the thing that's making me crazy is that I need a REALLY awesome pattern for it, a pattern that's "worthy" of it. Something with a lot of nuups I think?

Might I suggest the Heliotaxis Shawl? (find it on Ravelry here: link) It's very very pretty. Or an Orenburg. Those are also very lovely. I wouldn't do tons of nupps, but I also wouldn't want to go crazy--they invariably make me slow way down.

I started a hat for my friend's baby the other day. I was so careful this time, after messing up my fiance's hat, and measured my stitches like a good girl. Then I started knitting and managed to turn the drat thing into a mobius strip. I haven't yet decided if it's awesome because it's a knit mobius strip, or if it sucks and I should unpick it. I was like 4 rows in when I realized.

Holy crud on a pogo stick Bob, that's awesome! The only thing I've won is a year supply of tea... which was admittedly pretty darned awesome so I won't bitch. Welp, here's some of what I've been up to the past while: Shawl I'm almost finished making for my best friend. And my feet. Better close up of the pattern. Scarf in highland weave. Hat forthcoming. As you can see I'm currently loving the yarns in variated colours. Bought some more in purple/grey/black(destined to be 'Cleaves': http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring05/PATTcleaves.html and orange/yellow/brown/black(destined to be some shawl thingy I made up.)

HELP! I'm rather confused with this pattern from here: http://www.knotions.com/issues/fall_2009/patterns/smock_top/directions.aspx I'm up to the smocking stitch pattern which is: K3, p2, k2, p2, *wyb, insert right-hand needle from front between 6th st (a knit st) and 7th st (a purl st) on the left-hand needle and draw through a loop, slip this loop onto left-hand needle and knit it tog with the first st, then k1, p2, k2, p2; rep from * to last 7 sts, k2, p2, k3. Okay the regular knitting and purling i'm fine with but how do I make the loop from stitches i've already knitted, am I supposed to pick up a stitch somehow? And when I do manage to wrangle knitting with the right hand needle then how do I knit it into the first stitch? I think this is all witchcraft, explain the science to me

# ? Apr 22, 2011 12:55 |

Spiteful posted:HELP! Burn the witch! It means put the right hand needle into the space between the sixth and seventh stitches, then wrap the working yarn around it and draw a loop through the space. It's sort of like knitting a stitch only instead of putting the yarn through another stitch you're putting it through a space between stitches. Once you've got this stitch you transfer it to the left hand needle and knit it together with the one next to it. Does that make more sense?
|
# ? Apr 22, 2011 13:23 |

Yeah, that makes much more sense. In my mind I thought I had to knit between stitches i'd already knitted onto my right needle and it broke my mind. Thank you! <3

I finished knitting my Alpaca Soft scarf, now it's waiting until I get an opportunity to block it (until I have enough towels free). Is there a special method to blocking an alpaca/cotton mix, or can I just do the "bowl of soapy water, then squish the water out and pull it into shape" method from my Stitch 'n' Bitch book?

# ? Apr 23, 2011 16:18 |

You can do the bowl + pin out/pull into shape method. The only material that doesn't work for is acrylics.

Anyone here blog, especially about knitting stuff? I finally took the plunge to try to network/get to know people, besides having a few random knitters on my twitter. I set it up through Word Press and have my domain pointing to it. Appreciate any advice / pointers / etc! In the world of knitting, I'm currently making a baby surprise jacket in supersock DK Select "walking on the sun" for a friend that's due in July so it should fit come winter, and doing a test knit through ravelry of a small purse, perhaps clutch would be the term. Love the idea of testing patterns for free, cuz then you get the final pattern for knitting something you wanted to knit anyway. Here's the group on Ravelry. I'm also doing the year long gift exchange over in GBS since I had so much fun at Christmas time doing SASS, and I'm knitting most everything so I can post one picture: thelightguy got this awesome hat, and it worked out he needed one Once other gifts are received I can share pictures.

That hat looks sweet. I'm entirely dumb and cannot figure out how to find your blog. I have a blog, which usually focuses around knitting or spinning--every now and then I focus on design because sometimes I get a lark for designing stuff. It's a little less post frequent right now (last few weeks of school). It's currently set as my homepage on my profile. If you want to get readers, commenting on other people's blogs helps. Most people will at least stop by to comment on whatever you posted most recently. For blogs to follow: I tend to go for people who I like designs of--sometimes this works, sometimes not. Occasionally rav users on the forums really helpful/knowledgeable, and so I see if they might have a blog. Content-wise, pick something you'll actually enjoy. Be it just talking about what you're knitting or documenting things as they are finished, if it doesn't feel like a chore, you'll probably enjoy blogging more.

For my afghan I'm just using plain old straight 14" needles. Even across both needles the stitches still need to be compressed and when leaving everything on one needle I have to put something on the end so they don't pop off. It's a tight fit but it works.
