I am selling a few fairly pricey collectibles on Ebay (Valued at about 5-600 bucks a piece) and it's the first time I have used Ebay in about 10 years. I stuck the auctions up yesterday and noticed I have a few people asking if I will ship internationally. All of the questions are from Indonesia and a couple are asking if I will claim the value is under $50 on the customs form. Is there anything sketchy going on here? The buyers themselves seem legit and have good feedback.

Is it better to just stick to shipping in the US when selling on Ebay?

Can you link me to feedback of any of them? It's possible to farm feedback on a lot of cheap items to go after big scores.

Small decorating question: Hanging a series of prints in my office above my desk. The drop-ceiling is not level; over the 10' on that wall it has a 1" difference in height. Due to an above the desk cabinet thing, I have to hang them ~8" from the ceiling.

Should they follow the line of the ceiling or be true-level? Either way the will clash with the line of the cabinet or the ceiling, respectively. I'm leaning towards "true-level".

Honestly, yes. While there are some international buyers who won't cause you any problems, it's more hassle than it's worth with dodgy postal systems in some countries, customs hassle (never ever lie about a customs value for ebay, it's not worth the pain it could cause you for the sake of someone you don't even know), shipping restrictions etc.

The US is massive, I'm sure you'll have enough buyers :)

Hey, look. Look, if- if you screw me on this, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine, you rat bastard!
I'm thinking about paying for something to the tune of about $1000-3000 that I was initially going to have to pay for in cash right off the bat, out of pocket, anyway. However, there is the option of putting it on a credit card...

With that being said, if I intend to put something on a card and still pay it off instantly pretty much like I'd intended to do, is there a good credit card that would let me earn usable 'points' based on purchases that would make it worth my while to apply for it?

For the most part I would stick with the US, *but* if I am going to do business internationally there is an absolute must of "no bullshit". Asking me to violate their customs laws as a first communication (of which I have no idea how strict/loose they are) is an automatic "no".

Ted Kaczynski (the Unabomber) got accepted to Harvard when he was 16, received a PhD from the University of Michigan and was a professor at University of California at Berkley. Then he did a bunch of crazy poo poo, I think you've probably heard of him.

If you want to see a bunch of people with degrees who have failed at life you should go to the Apple store. I worked at two different locations and both stores were filled with people who had masters degrees, multiple masters degrees etc.

See also, this guy who worked with me at the Apple store and is smart and educated:

A cup or two depending on how many jeans you are tossing in. Your clothes might stink a little of vinegar though, but I guess that's better than B.O.

Edit: To answer better, it's a lot like detergent. It's an imprecise measurement. There's a "best practices" measurement cup that is meant to knock off average stank off of an average load. You can toss in a couple cups of vinegar to a load to make sure it's going to come out not smelling like butt, but if you're on a budget, you might try with one cup first and see if that fits your needs.

This is a very valid question.

When you do get a few dollars to your name, making your own detergent is really cheap and effective. It's a couple bucks for a box of Borax, a couple bucks for a box of washing soda and a couple bucks for a bar of Fels-Naptha, and they all should be in the laundry section of your grocery store. Grate the soap, and mix the ingredients in equal parts. You use barely any, like a tbsp. at the most, so it lasts a good long while, too. You'll end up with leftover washing soda and Borax, so the next time you make it you just need the soap.

Let's get down to brass tacks. How much for the ape?
Is it flawed logic for me to think that putting a box fan facing out my window will draw the hot air outside and thus help bring in cooler air? It's about ten degrees warmer in my apartment than it is outside, and I can't decide which fan direction is going to cool me down the best.

If you can set up two fans, one blowing out and the other in, that will work best, especially if you put a divider in between that sticks into the room a foot or so.

Facing outside really only works when there is another outside air source to pull in from (window on the other side of the room). For immediate relief face it inward for circulation.

I find this discussion incredibly bland and disinteresting.
In almost every case, it's going to be more effective to pull in cool air than push out hot air. Just about the only time I'd do it the other way around is if you've got a different fan across the room pointing in, and want to set up a draft through your apartment. (Or if the window is in your attic, and you want to push out all of the hot air that naturally rises.)

My Visa credit card doesn't work at my local grocery store (QFC), but works elsewhere. My Visa debt card, through the same bank, does work at the QFC. I noticed this maybe a week ago. Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

Google is failing me on this one, and I'm getting mixed answers.

Does cosigning on an apartment lease show up on your credit history as an outstanding debt? ie. If you're applying for a mortgage, cosigning on a car lease shows up as you owing the end amount of that lease, and thus an outstanding debt. However, there seems to be a lot of confusion as if a rental lease shows up in the same way, or even at all (probably generally because apt managers, etc. report differently). Is there anyone who knows of people that handle credit/financing/etc. that can answer this definitively?

The first Costco is opening in Sydney in July.

All I know about costco is that its big in North America, is a place where you buy things in bulk and you pay for a membership to shop there.

How good is it though? Would it be worth getting a membership for? What do you tend to buy there? How much do you save for certain things? Is it more than just groceries/basic necessities?

Pornography related question.

A long time ago on SA there was a hilarious porn thread in GBS that later spawned the "Faces of Porn" in the Horrors of Porn section.

One of the most laughed about videos is now obscure. It was a blond dude in a leather mask in a pop shot scene screaming his lungs out and flailing his head wildly. It's become something of a running joke between me and my friends, who've heard about the video but never seen it. We can't seem to find it.

Very very weird request, I know. But if anyone knows the name or has a link handy you'd be ending a 4 year long "search".

I'm a big fan of Costco. It's worth it if you can afford it. I usually go there for groceries but you can get great deals on other things. They sell bottled water that I get massive amounts for on the cheap, where anywhere else I'd be paying an arm and a leg.

Whats the quality like of non-food items? Its only $60 a year so really isn't that big a deal to purchase but the store opening here will be about half an hour away.

Well I can't say specifically how it will work in Australia, but in America, it's pretty much all name brand stuff, so same quality as any store. I think you have to accompany your mom or sister to the store to buy things with your card, though you can just buy memberships for them as well.

I went to a Costco when I was over in America a few weeks ago and as soon as one opens up near me I'm getting a membership. Even if there is only a handful of products that you would buy in bulk from there, it's going to be worth it. Even more so if you have a decent sized freezer and buy meat in 'bulk'.

Costco isn't like Walmart where they basically force manufacturers to reduce their quality in order to meet a price point. They have a lot of generic stuff, but their name brand stuff is legitimate. I'm sure that once it opens, you will have an opportunity to browse their inventory.

I don't handle credit/financing, but as far as I know the only time it'll show up is if the person youre cosigning for doesn't pay and then YOU don't pay. Once you don't pay, it goes on your record as a negative mark.

There is no reason why it should... The lease just goes to you, your cosigner, and your landlords. The credit check they do is preliminary and as far as I know they don't go back and tell the credit bureau "Yes we are picking him OK?" Like the other Trophy av person said, unless you get in trouble, it shouldn't show up.

Does anyone know how much notice our landlord needs to give us to leave a rented property in the UK? I am having no luck finding a clear answer online. Some facts that may or may not be relevant:

1) We've lived there for 4 years come July
2) The house is rented as fully furnished
3) No maintenance has been carried out in the time we have lived there, except a new fuse box when the old one exploded
4) We have reported several issues (leaky pipes, persistent damp/mould) to the letting agent but they have taken no action
5) We have had no contact with the letting agent for over a year, although the terms of the lease state property inspections will take place every 3 months

I have a membership from Costco and I love it. At least in the US, if you have a membership, you can designate one other individual to be on your account so you will have to pick between your mom or sister, but they will have their own card and don’t have to go to the store with you. The one other great thing about them is they pay their workers a fair wage. I don’t think anyone is getting rich being a cashier, but they are earning at least twice what their counterparts in Walmart and Sam’s Club earn, and they do get benefits. Because of that they have great customer service and people don’t hate their jobs and loath the customers. A few years ago there was a website called buyblue.org or something like that where they tracked the political donations of major corporations. Costco was almost alone in giving virtually all of its campaign donations to Democrats and progressive causes.

The only downside is that they sell a lot of stuff, things you wouldn’t expect them to sell, things you want and if you’re not careful you will overspend. My boyfriend calls it the $100 store. He never spends less than $100 there. It is also worth noting they do not take credit cards, and that would be another way they keep costs down.
