Yep gonna rock the ACU's. Now I need to get a haircut in the morning. Not really his sponsor or anything, just doing a favor to a guy who would have to drive 5 hours one way on his own dime to pick him up. Basically I just have to pick him up and get him to his billets.

Pick him up in PT uniform. Also buy him a PT belt and as you hand it to him "welcome to America" in your best Texas accent. Also give him a dip.

Godholio posted:I would love to see a Brit walking around wearing a Wrestlemania cap with his uniform. I could possibly make this happen later this summer. Actually, I could make it happen tomorrow but I don't have a Wrestlemania cap easily accessible. Talking to Brits from the RAF after they've gone to the BX and seen the plethora of firearms available for purchase is pretty hilarious...as is talking to them about the Eurofighter, JSF, the newfound alliance with the French, or pretty much any defense related topic. "Right, I worked in the Eurofighter program office back in the late '90s...the plan was that it would be second in the world only to the Raptor, but it would only cost $35 million to the Raptor's $70 million, so we could still buy more of them...that's worked out pretty fuckin' well for the both of us." "The JSF...I don't even know...I guess we're buying the -C model now, but it's not going to matter since the way our defence budget is going we're only going to be able to buy like three of them." "I don't trust the loving frogs...they want in NATO, then they want out, then they want back in...they want in Europe, as long as they can control it. They're doing something in the kind of not really joke of a war we're "fighting" in Libya, but that's just because it's in their backyard. And we're going to be sharing a loving carrier with them. "

Also if your unit wants you to do this then you should be getting paid, period. Assuming you're a Reservist, submit that 1380 with a quickness man!

Background: Husband is currently in the basic portion of OSUT, graduating next week into the AIT portion. 19K, yay. What they're telling us right now is that he might be going to Korea. I used to be a Korean linguist, so I'm all like "OMG OKAY. 2/3 YEARS IN KOREA, I MAKE YOU THE HAPPIEST TANKER ON THAT PENINSULA IF YOU TAKE ME WITH YOU." However... Husband's OSUT unit commander is saying that only his gaining unit can request command sponsorship. I thought that losing unit filled out the paperwork, forwarded it on to the gaining unit and then they handled it. That also seems to be what the 2ID Korea website says. Not sure if its different for IET soldiers PCSing for first duty station. I'm also hearing that CS is taking forever/hard to get, which means I want to start on it ASAP. Anybody have any good advice/ideas/wtf should my first/next step be? I see him for his family weekend next weekend, and this will be our first chance to seriously talk about what's going to happen and what we need to do, so I'd like to come armed with as much info as possible.

I'm not sure exactly, but if he's 19K that means Casey and I'm fairly certain they're not huge on CS as of yet, despite the whole rest of peninsula moving that way. I'm sure that you read this milper message: http://www.2id.korea.army.mil/meta/files/commandsponsorship/procedures/korea_tour_tormalization_milper20090309.pdf and more importantly the USFK regulation you will figure something out. I'm going to look though for a minute and see what I can find : http://www.usfk.mil/usfk/Uploads/120/USFKReg614_1.pdf long and short of it seems to be good luck though edit: as of the date of that last regulation date (nov 2010) only like 500 people are authorised command sponsorship at Casey (Dongducheon) DEVILDOGOOORAH fucked around with this message at 02:38 on May 13, 2011 |

Yeah, that's a nice touch if you can get away with it. Meritorious service awards other than retirement are restricted to the period served under the recommending command, though.

Yeah, it's just boilerplate I dug up and modified afterwards. I checked back with the unit, and we're going with entrance date to ETS date for the award, and I wrote bullet points based off of old NCOERs and my own observations since I wasn't deployed with him. We shot for an MSM at first, but the BN XO said it wasn't going to happen. Based off of what I saw and comments from others, I can see why. My guy is a great soldier, but it would be very difficult to make a strong enough case. I would have shot for it anyways even though it would probably be downgraded, but I was flat out told to write it for an ARCOM. I know the form is going to get tweaked once I kick it up to the company commander, but I don't really see an ARCOM getting rejected for his ETS award.
|
# ? May 13, 2011 23:13 |
|
PROTIP: Only the approval authority for a MSM can downgrade it, not the BN XO. Put him in for an MSM, it gets downgraded then guess what, he gets an ARCOM, and hey wow same end result. Or maybe he gets an MSM for his years of service and not the same award that a PFC gets for winning a BN board once Sorry obviously you see that, way to be spineless (its ok thats how it works man no offense)

It can be hard for E7s and O3s to get MSMs as ETS awards. Heck a lot of O3s get AAMs.

no doubt he'll walk out with an ARCOM, but you know he could look at the 638 and at least think "hey i got put in for a MSM but that dick head BN CDR who doesnt even know me and downgraded it " or think AB thinks he's a piece of poo poo for not even trying
|
# ? May 14, 2011 00:22 |

Or they'll just have him redo the form and put arcom.
|
# ? May 14, 2011 00:35 |

which is hosed up but it's the game but when said SSG comes up to AB and is like "AN ARCOM???" AB's eyes can swell up with tears and say "I PUT IT IN AS AN ARCOM" and deflect the blame. Gotta play those games because everyone want's to be a douchebag and if the SSG gets an MSM for ETSing then what does an MSM for a CGO as a tour award who worked in the mayor cell or something count for
|
# ? May 14, 2011 00:40 |
|
It's a lovely situation. I could put him in for an MSM, but it wouldn't even make it to the BC- my CO would kick it back for a re-write first. I'm a 1LT with no friends in staff and no staff time under my belt, meaning no options on the political side. What the gently caress am I supposed to do? HCT, I know you're pissed, but that's how things are right now and I can't change it. Cut me some slack here, I'm not out to gently caress a good NCO out of an award.

Nah man you're good, it's the system. For all I know the guy deserves a COA. The politics of awards just irritates me because at the end its officers trying to do some loving bullshit to protect the honor of their loving MSM/BSM for loving being the aide de camp of the assistant g2 or some bullshit aristocracy ringknocker bullshit. If the MSM gets downgraded to an ARCOM at least the guy's got the 638 and narrative for an MSM in his records, which shows that his firstline thought he deserved it. There's no loving reason to rewrite. If leadership at each echelon on the way up doesn't like it, they just recommend downgrade and pencil in some comments. The awarding authority gets the final say, not mid-level management. It's in the regulation; why don't people get it?

Regarding periods of award. Retirement awards cover the last 10 years back from the eff date of retirement. ETS goes back to date arrived under the recommending command. PCS goes back to date arrived under the recommending command. Our brigade and post won't do em any other way than that, which is in fact IAW regulation.
