The steering wheel shook a fair bit (probably a function of wheel balance more than anything else) but otherwise it wasn't terribly eventful.

Yeah, we did that a few times too. The amusing part was having the people in the "top rear row" duck whenever we saw a cop nearby. No speeding antics in that situation, obviously.

I never did say that the 80's sucked. Anything from Japan made from 1980-1993 owns, and owns hard. Late 80's cars are my personal favorite. 1980's American cars are loving awful. All of them.

I bounced that car off the other side of a ditch narrowly missing a telephone pole in the process in 1998. In a few weeks it will be exactly 13 years to the day, and you can still see the divot the rear of the front fender made. Grass has grown into it, but you can still see where it was dug out.

The motor was linked to an all-wheel drive (AWD) system designed by Carroll Shelby, and the car was called the Decepzione. Despite its performance and media buzz generated by articles in Car and Driver magazine, the project was abandoned due to the car's oil pan having just 1.5 inches (38.1 mm) of ground clearance, necessitated by the comparatively tall engine block.

Mighty Horse posted:Ancient engine design? It's a MPFI turbo motor, in 1988. That was pretty drat cutting edge at the time. The age of then engine is not the age of the fuel system, especially since the same manufactuer used the 318 V8for like 50 years and went from dual barrel carbs pre-emissions to was knock-sensing sequential fuel injection in the 90s. D-Jetronic is MPFI and came out in 1967, BMW started in the 70s, Toyota's last carbed car was 1987 I think, so no, except for legacy-powered vehicles like this, it wasn't. The engine came out in 1981, was mostly-carbed until 1985, and used until 1994 I think. Counterpoint is that both Subaru and Nissan had carbureted vehicles in 1989.
