So my kindle is frozen. I tried plugging it into my computer and holding the release button for 30 seconds. Tried plugging it in the wall and holding the release button for 30 seconds and nothing happened. Now I'm just waiting for the battery to die to see what will happen. I really don't want to call Amazon and go through trouble shooting with them because I feel like I've done everything already. Anyone have any ideas what I can do?

Most people that have called Amazon tech support usually end up getting a brand new kindle over-nighted to them the next day. You might be waiting for months before the battery dies.

My Kindle wouldn't connect to wireless and they sent me a new one straight away. But remember to call them - don't even bother with an email exchange.

Love my Kindle and such, but I really wish Amazon would separate reviews by edition and format instead of lumping every single version of everything together. It would be nice to read a review for a Kindle edition of a book that explicitly says, "This version is hosed up, don't buy it." I'd rather just get a physical copy of a book if the Kindle version is typo-laden... Also, it would make wading through the free books much easier since there can be multiple versions of the same book.

Got a kindle 3G today as a surprise birthday gift, loving it so far.The screen amazes me. Some worries though. I'm a bit concerned as i charged it until the light went green and then unplugged it and played with it for an hour or so, now its at 2/3 battery life, I thought it was supposed to last weeks? I sat there for about 20 minutes debating with myself if I should make an american or a UK account on it as i was worried about getting hosed with price gouging. Then I realised books don't have VAT right? So I made a UK account and well e-books do it seems I'm thinking the model that comes with ads would have been better, as I'm not seeing any special offers on mine? Am I missing something? Also I think the thing itself looks pretty ugly but it's not a big deal edit: oh and the 3G hasnt worked at all, it's been on GPRS all day. wouldnt connect to my wireless network but that's probably fixable; i need to look into that MJ_Turbo fucked around with this message at 19:02 on May 17, 2011 |

The kindle will index all the books and that can eat through a ton of battery. Ad version is just the wifi version with ads, you're not missing out on anything. For free books, go to the link above. If wireless is on it'll drain the battery a lot faster. Turn it off if you're not using it. The ad model is just cheaper so if you got it for a gift then it probably doesn't really matter... Check out the kindle page on amazon.com and there should be a section of free books that you can "purchase" and have sent to your kindle

Sperg Victorious posted:http://kindleworld.blogspot.com/ Definitely helpful, but I'd also love if the reviews for non-free books were separated as well so I didn't end up with an edition that has all "m's" replaced with "rn." Still, thanks for the heads-up on the other site!

Crossposting from the other ereader thread : I know we get a lot of complaints on here, and rightly so, about the hosed up prices of ebooks. A lot of the time it's basically either a buck cheaper than the paperback, or it's sometimes twice as much depending on who's selling it. I picked this up tonight, and just wanted to share : That, to me, is awesome. It's one of the reasons I bought the thing. I would completely pass this thing up for 15$ at the store, but on amazon, for 3$? Downloading it right now A lot of decent books are on there for around the 2-4$ mark, and the paperbacks are always 7 or 8$. I support the authors I can by grabbing the ebooks that I think I might like, especially when they are priced in a way that seems pretty damned normal to me.

You may end up getting e-mails from Amazon querying why you're using the US store from the UK, and I gave them proof of my US address, but I've heard mixed things on whether they'll actually follow this up if you don't give them proof.

I mistakenly bought a Kindle with Special Offers. It was in the wrong spot on the Best Buy shelf (I needed a Kindle NOW). Is there a way to legally remove the Special Offers (say, send Amazon an extra $20 to convert it to a regular Kindle?) or am I stuck with these ads? I want the cool screensavers and I want to do it completely legally.

I don't have a case for it but intend to buy one soon. That's a good point though, rather than considering upgrading it, I should focus that money on a case. It's just ugly seeing an ad when my kindle is out in the open. I've had it for a few weeks, so I think exchanging it at Best Buy isn't an option...and again, a case would solve the "seeing an ad out of the corner of your eye" problem.

Has anyone read/played Warlock of Firetop Mountain yet? I really want to get it for purely nostalgic reasons (like old videogames I want to get for purely nostalgic reasons I'll probably look at it for 2 minutes and never touch it again). But it's not out in the UK. I could always set up a US account again, but I don't want it enough that I could be bothered.

drat that's tempting to get as a gift. I have a Kindle 3 and I absolutely love it. Trying to convince all my family members to buy one now, and this seems like a good place to start. Are there any major drawbacks to a Kindle 2? Is it better to just spend the extra money and get a Kindle 3? The only real "draw" that the current gen has that the K2 doesn't, as far as I know, is the page numbers.
