Fortunately this happened at the dealership where I was making an appointment to have that looked at (good thing I followed my instincts!) but it's still a bother. Yeah, it's the battery. VAG starters seem to draw a lot - when the battery isn't tip-top you can get a slow or weak crank pretty easily. With the engine running put a volt meter on the battery and see what the voltage is. If it's 12.9 V or less then you've got a charging system problem but I'm betting on a weak battery.

At what point do I cancel my order from ECS Tuning?.... I put in an order: 4/7/2011 Expected Ship Date was: 5/13/2011 It still says "Product Inbound", even though when I originally ordered it said all items were in stock. I had emailed someone about it, and he said that it's because of the EuroJet PCV kit or something... that they are slow at getting it to them, but to me it seems a bit ridiculous to have been waiting for almost a month and half.

Yeah, things like what? I haven't seen any new news recently... That said, yeah you can get Golf R hp on the MKV with pretty minimal mods, but also consider what you can get on the Golf R with the same minimal mods...

I have a 2001 Jetta 1.8 Turbo with a bit of an issue with the timing belt. That is, the timing belt broke. I'm getting quoted about 2100 to fix it because they have to check valves and whatever else. My question: Is there an agreed upon best place to sell broken Jettas?

Kashwashwa posted:At what point do I cancel my order from ECS Tuning?.... Well, I happened to get another email today: "I am writing to inform you that there has been a slight delay in receiving some of the items for your order. As of the current time, we are expecting them to arrive on 6.10.11. Here at ECS Tuning, we work hard to make sure that we get your items to you in a timely manner. We are however at the mercy of our manufacturers and suppliers of the items. Please rest assured that your items are on order and as soon as our suppliers have them, we will ship them out to you as soon as possible." So I ordered early April, and am told they are expecting them to arrive June 10th... Honestly, I don't know if I can wait that long. Isn't that kind of ridiculous to ask of a customer? I'm not ordering like a $20 part either, I ordered $600 worth of parts...

Quick question before I do something silly... I recently bought a vanity Euro plate for my B7 A4. My province doesn't require a front license plate so obviously I intent to put the plate there. It came with a "universal" mounting frame that looks something like this: Obviously I'd have to remove the grille cover to be able to install the plate. At the same time I know that Audi also makes a grille cover that's made to house the plate, but ECS will only have that in stock in mid-summer. So before I go about removing the existing grille cover and probably break a plastic clip or three, would it be sufficient to use the "universal" frame or is the Audi grille cover really necessary if it's going to look good? edit, in case someone else wants to do this: I actually need two parts, and they don't seem to be available from anywhere at the moment el topo fucked around with this message at 03:26 on May 18, 2011 |

My car simply turned itself off at a stoplight yesterday. 2004 A6 3.0 Quattro with 99K miles. No funny noises, warning lights, or indication that anything was wrong. It was running fine when the engine just shut down. It has about 1/4 tank of gas in it. I put it into park and it started again as normal. What could cause this? I really don't want it to cut out and take away my power steering and brakes while on the highway.

My friend has a 98 Jetta and he's had the rear wheel bearings replaced twice by the same mechanic (second time was free) because they keep humming. It's been just a couple months and now they are humming again. It's worst from about 40-60 mph. Could it be something else? Or is the mechanic just not doing it right?

Jimmy Thief posted:He's not taking it to a dealer or VW specialist, if that matters. Its pretty much the same for every bearing. You should be able to do it except that the races have to be pressed in (and out if you are reusing the drum). To set the pre-load all you have to do is tighten the nut enough (not very tight) to make sure the bearings are set in the races and then loosen it ever so slightly until you can just move the washer around with a screw driver.

Is it the bearings on both sides? If its just 1 side, it might be a bent rim. My dad trashed the bearings on both front and back on the passenger side from driving around on a warped wheel.

Bolkovr posted:98 New Beetle. How do I remove the windshield wiper arms? Do they pull off or do you rotate them to remove them? Remove the caps on the wiper arm nuts if you haven't already. I usually take the 13 mm nuts completely off, spray a little penetrant on the shaft and then rock the wiper arm off the shaft. Don't be afraid to use some muscle - there'll be some corrosion on the splines that you'll have to overcome. You can also try putting the nut back on and tightening it down very tightly - that can help break down the rust that's keeping it on there.

I'm growing a little suspicious of my dealership's service... I had a full inspection done last week and as I was setting off on a road trip yesterday my "check engine" light came on. Fortunately I have a bluetooth OBD connector so I was able to see what the fault was (P0299, loss of pressure in the turbocharger) and determine that it was still safe to go. Is this error common in cases of diverter valve failure? I hear it's about the most common problem for the 2.0T engine.
