These Loving Eyes posted:Anything similar to this specific Electric Wizard insrumental? Not really a huge fan of actual stoner / sludge stuff but this kind of spacey, slow, bass-heavy stuff with psychedelic guitarwork I find awesome. I'd wager at least some late 60s or 70s progressive rock bands did something like this but sadly I haven't found anything similar yet. Some post-rock bands (like Red Sparowes) come close but I think they often lack the feel of a jam I'm looking for. Something like slowed down Ozric Tentacles but less tacky. I don't mind vocals as long as they're not death metal growling. Have you checked Acid Mothers Temple out?

Some of these are crossovers, but hopefully you enjoy a few of them: Neutralite is just awesome. Sabrepulse plays a kind of "chip-pop": songs that sound more like pop songs rendered in 8-bit as opposed to something you'd expect to hear as VGM. The Deprecation Guild plays live hard rock instruments with a chiptune background. Zomby Makes dubstep, but uses a ton of video game samples.

What are some suggestions for the type of soul like in Bewildered by James Brown? (and obviously a fair amount of other songs like his.) I listen to a fair amount of Mo-Town and now James Brown kick and the like but it's usually more on the upbeat and funky side.

The Numero Group put out various soul label compilations called Eccentric Soul. They're compilations from old soul labels featuring a variety of groups. I'd recommend previewing them to find the sound you like. Some of the stuff is upbeat, but there is plenty features slower stuff. Eccentric Soul And something like this in particular might be similar to what you're after. Dusty Groove is a good online record shop with all sorts of soul, jazz, and funk. It may be worth digging around on there a bit as well. Also, some Otis Redding might float your boat. me your dad fucked around with this message at 13:11 on May 13, 2011 |

I'm looking for something with a nice strong bass and/or drum line. Exact genre isn't a big deal, it can be D&B, UK bass, techno, electro-industrial, whatever, but I don't really want singing (some vocals are okay, just no singing). Examples include Justice, from the first page (such as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lodWFJJIOkg), This Morn Omina (such as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EagS_11RB8), some Pendulum, (Blood Sugar and Salt in the Wounds, namely), etc.

I would check out Spor, some of his music has vocals but most doesn't and its pretty hard stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRVKb2VJYiA This is probably one of his more popular tracks. He also has an electro alias, Feed Me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6ILV4hjc6U You should really like this track, it's got a little bit of vocals but it also has a really deep bassline and I think you'll like the drums. I'm also a huge fan of Shock One. Definitely on the other side of the genre from Spor. He's got a mish mash of vocal and non vocal tracks, I picked a couple I thought you would like. Some have some vocals but very little. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_H3yojwppcY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgjB0HlhoJU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGPK6GwuWlM http://www.youtube.com/user/NeurofunkGrid Here's a great Youtube channel where you can sample some great DnB. There's also liquid which has some really good non vocal tracks but at the same time vocals are incredibly prevalent with a lot of artists. Here's a decent example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OH627fyAxpA There's a ton more names I could give you but it's a really broad genre so if you like any of that I can point you to stuff that's similar.

So I found a couple tracks on some of this German DJs sets that a friend of mine showed me, and I really like them a lot. Trouble is that I don't really know how to find more like them other than to listen to the guy's sets, which is kinda inefficient. Here are the tracks that I thought were cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxTIWsSaDSU&feature=share http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmVpYudwpvo&feature=share http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_m5DwCauFhs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNsCNpdVQMQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sMyhV_wAWg The main problem is that most of them are remixes, so on thing's like last.fm they're listed under the original artist. Anyone know of any good blogs for this kind of music?

Weird requests: 1) I'm looking for really bad 90s euro rave poo poo. Aqua, Vengaboys, Ace of Base, etc. Anything you'd find on one of those "Pulse" compilations. I grew up listening to this stuff all the time and had almost forgotten about it. Also, anything modern influenced by it would be interesting to hear (see: GaGa's Alejandro) 2) I'm also looking for some awesome baroque pop - really orchestral and dramatic pop music like Sparks and Electric Light Orchestra. Can be from any era, doesn't bother me. I hear a modern band called British Sea Power is keeping this sound alive, haven't checked them out, though.

So this may be a strange request, but does anyone know what you would call music with a big orchestra and tons of people singing? I was wasting time on youtube and decided to listen to a bunch of European national anthems and really like the big orchestra behind a bunch of people singing in harmony; is there a word for this or does this stuff just exist in national anthem type songs? I guess some examples would be the French (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlOA4mLIwq8&feature=related) and Italian (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uDyOLgf2jo&feature=related) national anthems

I am going to assume you have all the Beatles, Beach Boys, and possibly The Zombies so I can skip them. The other three Luomo LPs are not quite as good (still loving excellent obvsly), but more traditionally "deep house" if that's a virtue. Tbf, in general I don't really enjoy music that tries to sound like Vocalcity, poo poo rarely clicks the same way Tessio or Synkro do. I'd recommend Moodymann, Theo Parrish, Herbert, Robert Owens, Michael Mayer and Edfemin, off the top of my head.

To add on to that, here are a few thoughts I posted about a different request for deep house. http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3238075&pagenumber=113&perpage=40#post391526639 I would also add Larry Heard (aka mr. fingers and others) to ras hai's list if you are interested in a historical standpoint as he is often consider the father of deep house. In my own estimation that simplification is just as harmful as helpful, but it's a notable idea to consider.

I'm looking for a bit of instrumental metal music. The best example I've got (and one of my favorites) is The Crusade by Trivium. Eight minutes of really great guitar riffs and drumwork. It sounds very technical to me, and the chords all have an easy-to-follow structure and melody - like this song could have some awesome lyrics to go with it, but it doesn't need them, because it's just that badass I've heard some other stuff from friends, but frankly a lot of it is just too chaotic. They sound like they're trying to prove how cool they are by playing random guitar notes as fast as possible with a literal wall of sound coming from the drums, and you can't make out anything intelligible. Sounds a little spergy, I guess, but I like good metal music that I can understand, not just madness set to music. Anyone know of anything worth listening to?
