If there's an opening next time maybe I will. I liked having two teams briefly when I took over the 7mantle7 team but that franchise was so hosed I couldn't bring myself to re-up.

That's a pretty good glove but his bat is kind of weak, only his eye is "wow that rules" and his splits are terrible and mediocre respectively, and his contact is Kingman-like while his power is only average. Also, the glove gives him an inflated overall so he'll get more expensive than he should quickly.

I wouldn't give him a second thought. You can find all-glove SS types with just as useful of a bat for far cheaper than his asking price.

Bob, your lineup reminds me of something. Do you guys not designate closers and just have a bunch of setup guys for some reason that I am just not aware of? Closers cost money or?

I usually draft a bunch of good relievers, so their is just no point in having a designated closer.

Yo Art, Clyde Sukeforth on your Macho Man roster is ineligible since he played before 1952 and doesn't fill any criteria.

Normally I'd just let that slide since he's just a 200k guy but since we've got a handful of people I'm not familiar with I don't want anyone being pissy that someone had an illegal player on their team. Plus it's an easy fix since he is just a 200k guy so grab Wilson Ramos or somebody. Just get that switched as soon as you can.

Argh, I don't know how I let that slip through.

Since i'm pulling out, I may switch out Dazzy and Camnitz, because i'm not entirely thrilled with them.

Okay, didn't make any changes except for Ramos.

If I had unlimited time, I would have made some major changes, mostly to my pitching staff, but it's way too late for that now. This team is probably terrible.

The downloadable pitcher/player CSV files have a lot of statistical information for each player in the database, but it's lacking stuff like HR/100 just to name one item. Is there a way to get some of that other information in one sortable file?

Take the CSV, parse it with your favorite programming language (perl is the right answer you philistine).

I mean the problem is that the CSV doesn't have the complete set data to begin with. It's missing many of the advanced statistics like SecA, 2B/100# and numerical fielding ratings. Certainly some of those are things I would never use in a hundred years when building a team, but being able to sort by 3B/100# would be handy in a pinch. What I'm wondering is if there's an easy way to find a list with those other missing statistics in a CSV file? Probably not though.

I have some of them compiled together, in a sheet somewhere, AV might still have it. Basically if you have a lot of free time, take the CSV, import it into you favorite database (mysql is the right answer you philistine) and then also import the Lahman historical baseball database. Theoretically, you can get all of those # stats and numerical relative range and fielding stats based on historical league averages you can glean from the Lahman db. In practice its kind of a bitch.

Not as much of a bitch as manually entering that data for 40k+ players! Thanks for the help. I've never really needed that level of accuracy when building teams, but it would be nice to have and I may give it a shot if it isn't too big a headache.

The real problem is getting a good understanding of exactly how WiS computes things like relative range and fielding, etc. Like what averages do they use?

Like, the calculation for anything in WiS as far as a matchup goes (and therefore the /100# stats) uses log5:

ExAvg = ((BAVG * PAVG) / LgAVG) / ((BAVG * PAVG) / LgAVG + ((1-BAVG)*(1-PAVG)/(1-LgAvg)))

But, in WiS land, 'LgAVG' is obviously a bit of a weird concept. Its the average of the batters and pitchers league averages. But, when computing a general /100# stat for comparison, what do you use? Overall MLB average across history? Only for the league that player is in? In the end, it doesn't matter to your data itself as long as you can be internally consistent, but it sucks then when you can't directly compare it to WiS stats.
