So you would pick High Contrast or some other DNB producer who's name begins with H. I think I'll do 5 different "R" producers, since I don't feel very tied to one in particular. I'll contribute later in the day, though. I'm working on beating LA Noire right now so I can return it to Blockbuster this weekend

My first time, be gentle Friday Five - Artist Showcase: Q Project Q Project - Ask Not [CIA021, C.I.A., 2005] Really smooth bass, really entrancing track. A good set opener IMO. Q Project - Living With Beaker [NHS75, Hospital, 2004] Far more, well, Hospital-y than the previous track. The cut up electric piano starts a great buildup to a great drop. Love this tune. Favorite of the bunch since I'm a liquid sucker. Q Project - Champion Sound (Alliance Remix) [LEG006, Legend, 1998] Stupid good track... big big big. A bit more Jungle-y which makes sense given the year, but the bass is incredible. Q Project - In 2 Deep [CIA046, C.I.A., 2009] One of his newest tracks. Really techy and weird, but the drums are huge. Q Project - Why? [MF006, Machine Funk, 2008] Another techier track, but I love the plucky bass/wobble bass play.

R Producer Friday 5 1) Rush, Ed & Optical - Gas Mask https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6F3cN8pA48o Yeah, I know this is a little bit of a stretch, but whatever. This one's funky as hell while also being kind of unsettling and I dig it. 2) Roni Size - Snapshot [Original Mix] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utyfdaXC_yE Has that great classic feel to it. Feels like I timewarped back to when DNB was really coming into form. 3) Roni Size & Reprazent - New Forms https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFiAK4fD6Mk Title track from one of the first really big DNB albums. Everyone knows New Forms. It won the Mercury Prize back when it came out in '97. 4) RAM Trilogy - Asylum https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9kiGpzLCRc When you hear this, you know some SERIOUS poo poo is about to go down, so you better get your rear end in gear. Also one of those tracks that makes you speed when driving to it. 5) Receptor - Crematorium https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SMEreJMlFw Kind of a follow up to Asylum, this would likely count as "fight scene" music. Slows down for a little while, but when it speeds back up, poo poo gets real. loving intense.

F5 Producers that start with "C" Chase & Status - Brazil Totally underrated tune off the Dimensions 3 EP from Ram. Nuff said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iJQefFkItQ DJ Clart - Primo Expect nothing less than the most soulful tunes from the one like Clart. This is no different. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHnkT5jXwrI Commix - Broken Man This tune's a little darker than most of their stuff, but it's still a scorcher. That bassline does not ever quit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiDhjHVbaM4 Calibre - Drop it Down (f/ MC Fats) What's not to love here? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdNLKGRyYyQ Cyantific - Don't Follow (f/ Diane Charlemagne) In traditional Cyantific form, this track makes excellent use of some pretty creative synths. the drums are driving and the bass doesn't let you rest until the breakdown. Oh yeah, Diane Charlemagne sounds FANTASTIC. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xATnABqp3M

Friday 5 for (more) S artists. Squarepusher - Untitled When I heard this, I thought this was probably the best drum and bass track ever written. It still holds up well and I love to throw it in sets, especially older school ones where I can fit it with lower tempo easily. Also a good transition to get into more ambient stuff and tempo shifts. Sub Focus - Vapourise Without a doubt, the most mind blowing recent dnb tune I've heard. The minimalist audacity of the track really went in the face of most modern songs coming out and I love it. The most listened to track by me of the last few years. Shapeshifter - Shakedown Coming at the end of when I was really really into drum and bass, Shakedown was a song by this group I hadn't heard too much about. A really groovy bassline and moving rhythm that drew me to it. Nothing special, but trying to space out my S's and not do too much of the following.... (Sorry for the quality and fact the song is in the mix. No other youtube postings) Sub Focus - Airplane Hands down, one of my favorite songs of all time. I am such a whore for Sub Focus, anyway, but I think it's very well deserved. I freaked when I heard Flamenco, but when I learned this was the B side I felt it was the biggest coup since Love & Happiness by Marcus Intalex & St Files was the B to Dreamworld (which I stil don't "get" I guess). I listened to this over and over and still love it. Simplicity is what it's all about. Shimon & Moving Fusion - Hangman Great, solid song that was one of my early favorites. I bought Ram Raiders 1 and 2 at the same time, and played this along with Elevator the most. However, only this one starts with Shimon! Such a bouncy beat and catchy bass hook, I still get down to this one.

ah! I was just checking back on this thread and realized my post is missing and such a nice post it was...Will try and recreate below - I was originally into the harder/faster/darker styles of electronic music, so some of these tracks reflect that - 1) Hype & Andy C - Let Loose http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oov7OaNk4k I hope this isn't considered cheat as its technically Hype and Andy C. I am not the biggest Andy C fan, but no one can deny the guy is a legend and this track more or less shows that. As for Hype - no need to comment Absolutely maniacal old school piece (not sure when it came out, ~2000 maybe) with a great beat and some very cheeky scratches! 2) Hive - Surreal Killer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5DAlBWl19I It's been 10 years since this was release and I'm sure that distorted drum at the beginning still gets to a lot of people! Very raw and very heavy! 3) Heist - Earths Core http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84NP9DnRoDY I am generally not sure what this threads take on jump up is, but I came across this today and wanted to share! Some might object to this as being just another throwaway track - I personally love it. 4) Harvest - Turbo Stoned http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrG7KVXQfMM More jump up, with some wobbly goodness to go along with it! 5) High Contrast - Twilight's Last Gleaming http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaquPM9mShM&hd=1 Probably not a single person in this thread who hasn't heard of High Contrast. The guy needs no introduction and is definitely one of my most favorite DJs as of late. Nothing to mention about this track, its just (liquid) gold! Bonus : Hidden - Times Like These - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7Qn7UxZWFY Since some might argue this technically isn't DNB I am throwing it in here as a bonus 6th track which I hope some of you might enjoy and provide similar sounding stuff Hope this is ok for a friday five, any tips are welcome, first timer here. Hope you enjoy the tracks!

Friday Five - Producer Names Startin' with the First Letter of Your Screen Name "Brown Paper Bag (The Video version)" - Roni Size / Reprazent. This one takes me back to my middle school days, although it still annoys the poo poo out of me that there are 3 versions of this track. That's EDM for you, though. "Space Crawler" - Robot Death Squad. Gotta throw in a heavy hitter for good measure! "Fear" - Recka & Clash. Another track that just gets me hype as gently caress anytime I hear it. "poo poo's Dope" - Rregula. Drive really fast on the freeway to this one...tell me you don't feel like a badass, I DARE YOU! "Luv & Haight" - Redeyes feat. Deeizm. First time I heard the original, actually. I only knew the Matrix remix before, and I much prefer this version.

Zahi posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W44Ym8InT6k It says unreleased and probably rightly so. Actually it may say it's a Horns 94 remix, but I don't know if it actually is. Obviously if Hype or the Back 2 Basics lot says it is, it is. But that sax is taken from Bay B Kanes Sax In The Jungle(and I'm at a blank trying to remember where the actual sample BBK ripped is taken from. It's off somethings big and old I'm sure of it, but just can't remember). The original Horns 94 is a remix of the classic Egyptian Empire track. I was going to say that was a Mickey Finn number, but he only did the remix while technoman Tim Taylor did the actual original. Anyway I'm actually not really a fan of this remix, this is the kind of thing where I start to lose a bit of interest in Jungle. You can see where it became D&B from like these kind of tunes. That choppy, stuttery snare drumline just does nothing for me. Bizarrely there are probably tons of tunes with drumlines like that that I like, but this isn't one. It doesn't have that manic, yet smooth flowing drums that I like when it comes to choppage, that keeps the track going on and the women interested in dancing. That's what I like when Jungle drums started getting chopped up more, the good ones still kept the flow. The song just doesn't really go anywhere I think, fiddling too much with it's drum rolls. Of course what do I know, I still hold this up as how to really go crazy with the choppage, it's not even that crazy really. Either way, that Youtuber saying it was off a Hype @ Dreamscape 12 mix(which I've never heard, though thanks to the miracle of google image it's from mid-94) reminded me how great those old Dreamscape posters are! I love that Hardcore/Jungle airbrushed futurism type of thing design. The covers off those Hardleaders Vol 2/3 comps are great as well. Just out of interest, what made you post up this particular track? Bit of an odd ball really.

I just wanted to share that Matrix and Futurebound's Worldwide 001 album is out today. I just got finished listening to the mix and it was great - some really awesome new mixes and tracks in there. It's no Nightlife 5 by any means, but if you're into (mostly) liquid tracks, you will enjoy it for sure. To be honest there are a handful of new tracks in the mix that aren't on the CD as tracks though, and they are some of the best ones in the mix. Kind of a shame, but still totally worth it.

I really miss SPL's Drum and Bass. He was one of the few people making the harder sound that was actually unique. Nihil and Fist were probably my favorites. His Drum and Bass had atmosphere and was really great. Really wish that would have translated over into his Dubstep. edit- just heard some of Counterstrike's Dubstep... now that's depressing. stationlost fucked around with this message at 04:24 on Jun 3, 2011 |

First time posting in this thread, but been monitoring it for some time, so I figured I'll debut with a Friday Five. Since there's no set theme, and I missed out on the "tracks form a specific label" one, I'll do that... Fokuz Recordings The Square & Blue Motion Ft Msdos - You Don't Need Me (Incident Remix) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W46l5Mq-9kY Love the combination of the atmopsphere and harder beats and bass on this one. Fourward - White Noise Down (Original Mix) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImS3BdD6ifw I seem to always play this tune out when spinning DnB Side Effect - Abyss (Original Mix) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8YuPfM_euk Simialr to the first tune posted, if you liked that one, this one is for you. Paul Saint Jack & Stunna - Altered Prospects http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLDiFHwYEVo I think Stunna is fairly well known in the more liquidy atmo type scene, brings his typical lightness here. Drum Origins - Mystical Fields http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbFRcnna9gY I don't own this but included because it's from the labels first release in 1999. Kinda wanted to compare it with the more recent releases above.

Sky Spirits is such a classic tune. Props to anybody who plays it. Isn't the other side Killa Bullet? Another classic, I can't remember the last single I got that had two top tunes on it. Acually, Flamenco/Airplane by Sub Focus was probably the last one.

This is my first time playing this game. Everything But the Girl - Blame (J-Majik VIP) - This was one I listened to over and over in college. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zh9mhXUHsE EZ Rollers - Tough at the Top (Origin Unknown mix) - A mind-blowing bassline reworking about three minutes in. I first heard it during Dieselboy's set at the Atlanta stop of the Planet of the Drums tour, 2000. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R51WoYXpgTg Abstract - The Message gently caress Willy Brown (Dom + Roland mix) - The original mix is better, but youtube doesn't have a copy, and I don't have my record handy. The remix is pretty nice, but the firestorm drums on the original just blow it away. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uD4iY9ZpEgE Genotype - Extraterrestrial (Dom and Roland mix) - This was on that huge and awesome Quantum Mechanics compilation, something like five discs of madness. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOS6bUFUVqI Acen - Trip II the Moon - Digging deep, back to 1992. I don't know if you'd call it DnB, but it sure did help build the genre. Also got me into electronic music when I heard in 1994. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bg8vGTUvrS4 synertia posted:Sky Spirits is such a classic tune. Props to anybody who plays it. This one will be challenging for me as a late-comer to D&B. I'll give it a shot though and maybe educate myself in the process... Acen - 116.7 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMXrWGaf4pk Sorry for this short version, I can't believe no one has uploaded the full tune on youtube! Wicked bassline. EZ Rollers - Tough At The Top (Original Mix) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0y53pXbyQPo&feature=related Yeah someone beat me to it, but I prefer that baseline on the original. Trade Secrets - I Know You Got Soul (Acen Remix) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1272SlJ7MDQ You gotta have soul. Ed Rush, Optical & Fierce - Alien Girl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOrKiEqTcio Deviating bit from the Higher Education label, let's get harder and darker. Roni Size - 26 Bass http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EtDfNTxZuc Call me crazy but this is the only Roni Size tune I really like.

Sky Spirits was the b-side to Can't Punish Me. Probably Dom's biggest tune. If you didn't know, the synth line in the beginning that's played on the stabs is actually from David Bowie's Let's Dance. Great Friday 5s everyone. I can never say no to Alien Girl.
