Has anyone ever had a problem with apps that were bought on the i-tunes app store quitting instantly, once their iphone has been jailbroken?

It seems that every app that I have purchased will open for about a split second, and then close.

So the dev branch of mobilenotifier has a cool new feature: if you're in app/spring board and you receive notifications you can swipe left/right between all the notifications and if it's a text you can reply to it from there, swipe to the next and repeat et al.

Other than to try out the "new" browser. Has some ways to go.

As for the notifications, here's the real issue:
-Notification Center and the lock screen aren't in sync. What you see in notification center, in my opinion, should be what you see in the lock screen. Just because I unlock doesn't mean I want to dismiss the notifications I got while locked.
-Notification Center should actually clear the notifications when you clear them from Notification Center. Otherwise you're left with the badges still over the apps.

In theory it is honestly better than LockInfo but it doesn't hold a candle to it now. You can't delete mail (which is fine), you can't preview it (again fine), there's no Twitter type Widget (and Widgets aren't visible on the lock screen), there's no calendar widget to show upcoming events, etc. They basically just took the basic idea of LockInfo (and InfoShade) and implemented like 10% of it.

Overall, it's a nice improvement, I just can't see that iOS 5 (in it's current beta form, I know it's a beta) will come close to giving me a reason to not jailbreak. I don't care about theming, I don't really care about tethering (even though I do have MyWi), but there is still just a TON of customization that the jb community has given that I know about.

poo poo, I even miss stuff like status bar icons. Those are just a quick way to know in an application that you even do have notifications without having to actually touch anything. Oversights like this I don't really get.

Yeah, it's really unfortunate. I hope more people will give a big enough fuss over this for Apple to notice and improve it. Hopefully people won't just be like, "Oh I guess that's how Steve Jobs wants us to do it. Fine with me!"

Well it is a beta for a product that is not due to launch for a few months. I bet a lot of those concerns will be addressed. If not in 5.0, then 5.x

Since I actually have a developer account I submitted tickets to their bug tracking system, no clue how well that is even watched. Also a lot of bugs with iTunes 10.5 and photos/video syncing.

Without a doubt, A LOT of this stuff is due to the fact that it's a beta product. iCloud, for the most part is what seems to be the most "polished" so far so I'm guessing they spent more time on actually removing the wires.

Like dutchbstrd said, a lot of this should be addressed in the future since this really opens up the door for enhancement. With the modal pop-ups, there really wasn't much more that they could do with it. With this you can tweak the notifications, tweak the notification center and tweak the lock screen. There actually is some room to grow where there wasn't before.

iBooks actually checked if you were jailbroken and then exited if you were, probably at the request of publishers who thought that people were using jailbreaking to steal their books. There was patch to stop it on Cydia pretty shortly after that behavior appeared.

You know, the only 2 problems I've ever had with the FB app are that 1) When you delete a message, you have to do it twice, and 2) Cropping images for profile pics doesn't work.

The big issue with iBooks was not that it simply "exited", but that the DRM/fairplay part of it tripped it up and caused lots of errors in the program.

The "hunnypot.deb" fix (included in redsn0w and PwnageTool, but not limera1n or greenp0ison) blocks the bad behavior in 4.1 and 4.2.1 (by hiding the fact the device is jailbroken from iBooks).

iBook's DRM is completely busted in 4.3.x (and maybe 5.0). There is no patch in Cydia or anywhere else to fix it. It opens DRM protected books, but has poo poo loads of memory errors. It results in blank pages, corrupted graphics, and missing pages.

It's funny, because even in non-jailbroken iOS 5.0, iBooks has the same errors as it does in jailbroken 4.3.x. Namely corrupted images. The DRM in iBooks is so bad that it causes problems on non-jailbroken versions of iOS if they differ enough from what the DRM was designed for (4.x).

The problems only occur on books protected with DRM.

This was posted back in April:

quote:

@i0n1c All this iBook trickery just stops legitimate customers from using it. Pirates won't care from the first second. DRM companies = Stupid

@i0n1c It is sad that companies like Apple force their customers to not use their products or to pirate the books.

@i0n1c iBook DRM won't work with the current kernel patches.

DOWNGRADING FROM iOS 5 BETA BACK TO 4.2.8 WITH JAILBREAK ON A VERIZON CDMA iPHONE:

Thinks you need:
Windows
4.2.8 ipfw
iREB RC4
iH8SN0W

I tried a lot in osx but could not get this to work as there is no iREB equivalent. Without iREB you will get either error 1600 or 21 every time you try to flash the jailbroken firmware in iTunes. Basically download the 4.2.8 ipk, run the iH8SN0W package to build a custom ipfw and then use iREB on your phone. After a few seconds it will say HEY READY TO GO!

Open up itunes in windows, hold shift and click restore. Select the custom ipfw from your desktop, let it flash and then you will be back on 4.2.8 with jailbreak. Sometimes the flash is unable to get your phone out of recovery mode. This is easily fixed by using fix recovery43.exe found here http://jaxov.com/2011/05/fix-ios-4-3-3-recovery-loop-on-iphone-4-3gs-using-tinyumbrella-fix-recovery/

If Cydia apps still work, use DataDeposit to backup any app you really don't want to lose anything and reinstall to see if it fixes it.

Yes! I was not sure if i was the only person to be completely loving baffled as to why this was not a feature included in the messaging app. . Even in winmo 6.1 you could hide the gal darn keyboard! I jailbroke because i got sick of scrolling messages with a .5" viewing window, cussing at the loving keyboard. Although i think you could exit the message app, reopen, and the keyboard would be hidden by default.

It's userland based, not bootloader or chip specific. Details are still pretty sparse as comex is just releasing teasers but if it's cross device then it might work on the ipad2.

That's all I've read from twitter/websites.

So I'm a little confused about SHSH blobs. Why are these so important? I was able to downgrade from 5.0 to 4.2.8 on my Verizon iPhone by just creating the .ipsw and flashing it using iREB. I was under the impression you need SHSH blobs to be able to downgrade but that seems to not be the case. Can someone clarify this for me please?

You need the shsh to downgrade once apple stops signing the version you want to downgrade to. You could downgrade because apple is still signing 4.2.8

The OP does a pretty decent job of explaining it.

OP posted:

Here are a few quick pieces of information taken directly from the Tiny Umbrella FAQ:
Q: What is an SHSH?
A: An SHSH is a secure signature hash. Basically its a unique key. (To avoid a lengthy discussion).

Q: Why do I need SHSHs?
A: Apple only allows you to restore to the firmwares they 'sign'. This 'signing' only lasts for a limited time. Once they stop 'signing' the SHSHs for a firmware, there is no way to restore that firmware ever again.

Here is an additional explaination of SHSH blobs and Tiny Umbrella courtesy of withak:
When you try to install a firmware through iTunes, it phones in to Apple. It sends what is basically your phone's serial number and the firmware version that you are installing, and Apple sends back an encrypted response -- called a "SHSH blob" -- that iTunes uses to determine whether you are allowed (or not allowed) to be installing that firmware version.

Tiny Umbrella saves that response for your current phone's serial number and whatever firmwares Apple is approving so that in the future if you want to install an old firmware that Apple isn't currently approving then Tiny Umbrella can spoof that Apple server and trick iTunes into letting you install an old version. Pretty much the only reason you would want to do this is if a future iOS version isn't jailbreakable but you install it anyway and later decide that you want to downgrade to something that is jailbreakable.

Because 4.2.8 is what Apple is currently signing for Verizon, you didn't have to worry about having your SHSH saved for that version. If the current firmware for Verizon was 4.2.9 and you wanted to go to 4.2.8 from 5.0, there would be no possible way to do that without having your SHSH saved for 4.2.8.

edit - ^^beaten.
