Watching an episode of CSI or something on TV tonight made me think of this question, and since it seems to be something I've seen in a lot of crime dramas, I'm very curious. Please consider the following: Person A commits a crime. The authorities suspect that Person A may have committed the crime. Person B wants to protect Person A, and claims to the police that they are guilty of the crime. What happens if the police end up finding evidence that determines Person B could not possibly have committed the crime, and that Person A is indeed guilty? What kind of charges could Person B face? Does it matter if Person B was also a suspect? Edit: Thanks to those below! Volkeren fucked around with this message at 07:26 on Jun 9, 2011 |

In UK law that may be covered under the wonderfully named charge of "perverting the course of justice".

If you had "I was run over by a truck and was in a coma for 6 weeks" or "My house was blown away by a tornado" to fight with, I'd say get in contact with their Customer Service and plead your case. Is it better to use my newly gained credit card all at once, and then pay it all off at the end of the month, or should I try to pay it off as slowly as possible? Which way builds credit better/faster? Below is context. Story At 24 years old, I just received my first credit card. I know everyone else in the world got one with a free tshirt/pizza/tv when they were 17, but for some reason my zero credit really discouraged even the shadiest of card givers. I checked all my scores yearly and there was no negative, and I also have rented / owned a cellphone and paid all bills that come with the two of those since I was 17. It's never been a huge problem, but my daughter is about to turn 4, and I am thinking more and more about her future. All that background was to display that this credit card isn't for fun money. I want to build a future for my little girl and it's becoming more and more evident that I need credit to make that future real. About the Card This card is god awful. 500 dollar limit with 24.9% APR right away. The only thing I want to do with this thing is build enough credit with it so I can get a better card, and build credit. I have asked a lot of people and done a bit of reading on the subject and people seem mixed on this question. My Finances I have ~6k in the bank, and in a week it becomes 7. I currently am putting aside an extra 1000 dollars a month after living\entertainment expenses. I can afford to be bent over by this card if the greater good is greater credit gains. My budget is very well fitted against my life and maintaining it is very important to me. Preparing for the worst so my daughter never has to.

Which way builds credit better/faster? There is absolutely no possible way to justify paying 24.9% interest on anything. Pay it off EVERY month if you insist on having one, though you absolutely don't need one. Paying it off does not negatively affect your credit score.

Always pay off every month. Always. Delaying accomplishes nothing but making you owe them more money, especially at a ridiculous interest rate like that.

If you keep using it and paying it off quickly then they will tend to raise your limit.

Yeah, it really is a lovely card. After three years of attempting to get a card from anyone that gives one (Walmart, best buy, my own bank [chase], etc), I finally managed to get this one. It just so happens to be awful. OK! So then, I want to build credit and upgrade from this card as quick as possible: A) Use the 500 all at once and pay it back all at once. Repeat for a few months and build credit faster? B) Trickle in purchases with it by using it to replace my currently limited spending. Basically, does semi frequent use of the card build credit, or is it the sheer purchase size / amount of money used and paid back that builds credit better?

It really doesn't matter. Use the card. Pay it off each month to avoid that ridiculous interest rate. Don't exceed your credit limit. Don't be late on payments, but if you have to be late call in advance to let them know and pay asap. Call the card issuer every 3-6 months and ask for a lower rate and/or higher limit. Keep trying for a better card every so often (see cardratings.com for the best ones to go for.) In short: You're doing fine; don't over-think it.

Cantv posted:Basically, does semi frequent use of the card build credit, or is it the sheer purchase size / amount of money used and paid back that builds credit better? Neither. Having the credit available, not maxing it out and leaving it maxed out, not going over your limit and paying on time builds credit. It can sit at zero for all of eternity and it'd build credit. Go hit up the BFC megathread about credit before you get hosed

Ego-bot posted:If I wanted to judge the approximate age of a globe, what's the most recent thing I should look for? Key things for recent globes: * Do the Netherlands Antilles exist? * East Timor (Timor-Leste in even more recent ones, I think) * Yugoslavia in its various forms * Ivory Coast vs Cote d'Ivoire * Almaty vs Astana as capital of Kazakhstan * Palau independent? * Kosovo independent? * Abuja vs Lagos as capital of Nigeria * Naypyidaw vs Rangoon/Yangon as capital of Burma/Myanmar * Are Hong Kong and Macau part of China? For earlier: * Soviet Union, of course * East Germany, of course * Czechoslovakia * Yamoussoukro vs Abidjan as capital of Ivory Coast * Belize independent? Or for that matter, all of the islands in the Caribbean? * Zaire vs Democratic Republic of the Congo * Eritrea * Possible existence, in a finely detailed one, of the Saudi-Iraqi Neutral Zone * Bangladesh vs East Pakistan * Is Algeria part of France? * Zimbabwe vs Rhodesia * Benin vs Dahomey * Burkina Faso vs Upper Volta * Is the United Arab Republic mentioned anywhere? * The various extent of Israel * Walvis Bay? * Brasilia? * Kinshasa vs Leopoldville? * Is Newfoundland part of Canada? * Canal Zone? * Bahrain independent? Brunei? * Singapore part of Malaysia? * North Yemen and South Yemen? * North Vietnam and South Vietnam? * Papua New Guinea independent? * Various other Pacific island nations? That takes us back to the end of the war. These are just the ones that pop off the top of my head, and would be visible on a general globe. To answer your question: At present, the very most recent change that's likely to be mentioned is that the Netherlands Antilles was dissolved, so a current globe wouldn't state that name; the independence of Kosovo, but that's possibly dependent on the cartographer's politics; and before that, Naypyidaw only became capital of Myanmar in 2006. But if it doesn't show capitals, then yeah, I think East Timor is the best bet, until next month when South Sudan becomes independent. How long's it been since you've had internet at your house? 2GB should be nothing, I'd get that in like 15 mins from a fast server like a game would come from and I don't have anything special, just cable and I think I pay $10 more a month than the cheapest internet they have. Do you know a downstream/downlink/download megabit per second speed that the isp is saying you'll get? Your game: 2GB=2048MB=2100000KB, and internet speeds: 1 megabit/s=128KB/s so if you had a 10megabit/s downlink you get 1280KB/s, 2gb would be done in 27 minutes. My question: years back someone posted in either gbs or shsc either a link to a page describing, or a forum post detailing their own experiences, setting up hidden/disguised PCs/servers. Like at a college or or other place with a fat pipe (probably for hosting warez/mp3z/moviez repositories) There were pics, I remember one was a circuit breaker panel with a board and drives inside that they hung on the wall right next to a real circuit breaker panel, this thing had conduit ran to it and everything. I think another one was either hidden inside or somehow involved a little canister landscaping light that was sunk into the ground. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? I want to see it again and can't find anything with hidden pc or hidden server on google. Vin BioEthanol fucked around with this message at 14:41 on Jun 10, 2011 |
