Also, it is almost a 100% guarantee that there will NOT be an iPad 2 jailbreak released BEFORE iOS5 comes out. Now that they have a general release date for iOS5, why would they waste a userland kernel exploit when they could possibly wait.

This is pure speculation but that's pretty much on-par with what they've done in the past. The only time they don't wait is when there's a minor/point release of iOS coming up with no real date. iOS 5 is pretty major and I don't think they'd want to waste a userland exploit when it could mean that there would be an untether available for ALL devices on basically the release day of iOS 5.
I agree with you here in principle, but I don't think Apple, on balance, is necessarily anti-jailbreak. They get new feature ideas from it and create more demand for the hardware. They know that we are unlikely ever to find ourselves at a point where app piracy will affect revenue streams in the aggregate, and JBing will remain a "geek thing" to do. They have an obligation to appear to be anti-jailbreak, but I don't imagine that they would go out of their way to stop something that does more good for them than bad.

It's like Adobe with Photoshop. Sure, they'd love for everyone to buy legit licenses, but faced with the choice of hordes of amateurs potentially spending years of self-training with the software before working for legitimate concerns versus no longer being the industry standard via pure inertia, the smart move is to say you are anti-piracy, cover your rear end with the shareholders, and make token, theatrical gestures to stop illicit software use.

The Apple situation is different for several reasons, but it is like Adobe in that, when taken as a whole, feigning indignation and not putting an active effort into securing their platform (at the hobbyist-level) is more of a benefit than it is a liability.

I doubt it's a very high priority amongst developers since Apple's version comes out this fall and pretty much destroys Google's current offering.

I agree with all of that. I don't think Apple is against jailbreaking either but from their own accountability they have to do something. Part of it is protecting users from themselves. As dumb as it would be, you KNOW if they let anyone do anything, someone, somewhere (actually a lot of people) would sue the poo poo out of them if their information was stolen, they got charged by AT&T for something, etc.

My whole point was that the dev team knows that Apple will patch a vulnerability in the iOS 5 final if they release the exploit before then. That's all.

As for the iPad jailbreak, I use my iPad like most people (non-jbers) use their iPhones: casually. That's why I don't really miss anything about it.

In other news, I guess I should show off a tweak I've been working on. This was more just so I could play with cocoa touch. Probably going to submit it to one of the repositories sometime soon (early next week). I'm also going to put it up on github because I don't really care and I figure if anyone wants to poke around and see what I did it would help - there's not a huge amount of custom preference bundle rendering code like I did so someone, somewhere could get something out of it. Plus, I probably did a lot of poo poo wrong but see my point about there not being a lot of stuff out there...

Anyway, it's called Calendar Colors and lets you modify the default Apple Calendar Colors. These are the little dots that show up in your Calendar, and more importantly, on your lock screen. These always bothered me and I hated having to modify the sqlite db on my own...so why not wrap a PreferenceBundle around it.

Scaled obviously....

Edit: The color previews update as you update the RGB values. They just don't show up in LI or Calendar until you respring (or force close the Calendar...LI randomly updates).

They're not really the same thing at all actually. Google Music you can instantly access and stream your library. With iCloud you have access to, but have to individually download any songs/albums you want to listen to and then listen to them via the iPod app once they've completed downloading.

Ok, trying to get rid of my Jailbreak and selling my iPad 1.

I tried last night to restore to 4.3.3 stock, iTunes throws error 37.

Tried on my work machine, iTunes throws error 37.

Now, I had no problems with iTunes pre 10.3.1, but since I upgraded I'm having nothing but problems. I tried DFU mode, there's nothing in my hosts that's modifying gs.apple.com.

Can I get 10.2.x for iTunes anywhere? I've tried kicking it out of recovery mode, no luck.

Connect your device to iTunes, click on the Apps tab, select Stanza, and drop some files in there?

Scratch that, mine doesn't read .mobi either. It loads, but incorrect format. Use Calibre to convert first?

I'll have to give that a shot when I get home. I always put off using calibre because it's the best program but still has terrible library management.

I think Stanza only reads epub natively. After you put the book in Calibre you have to convert it to epub before Stanza can download it.

Not sure if this is the right thread. I have a jailbroken Verizon iPhone and I am trying to get my company email on my phone. I am a contractor and the company I'm working for does not allow non employees to access their email from their phones. Is there any possible way to somehow get around this? I've been trying to get them to Make an exception for me because I am on call 24/7 and expected to respond to all emails within 30 minutes.

If they're on an Exchange server they have to set you up as an ActiveSync user for it to actually deliver to a mobile device. It's all on their end, if that's their setup, which it most likely is. There are occasional workarounds depending on how the company has their Exchange access set up (how web access is setup, if they allow IMAP connections, etc.) but in most cases you're going to need something done by them.

When I was a contractor I had the same restriction and to get around it I just set up a rule in outlook that auto-forwards everything to a gmail account and then accessed that from my phone.

Did it, still throws the error. Guy was super nice at the Apple Store in SOHO. They were backed up and I explained the situations. Since it took them about 40 mins after my time to get to me he said "Hey, it's your lucky day, we're just playing catchup and you get a new unit. BTW, our internal DB mentioned something about Jailbreaking causing error 37, have you jailbroken?" I said yes and he said thanks for your honesty, im going to get you your new unit from the back. Took about 10 mins and I walked out with a fresh one.

Iirc apple can't say anything about jail broken phones anymore, right? Or is it just legal but you void warranty? Also is that worldwide or just US?

It's definitely considered legal now but Apple doesn't need to support it if they don't want to, so effectively nothing changed. And that is US only.

Just sync with your existing iTunes account and you'll have all your stuff back. As long as you aren't restoring the firmware itself, you'll be fine.

So, I know there's that small blurb in the OP, but does anyone have any suggestions for some killer/cool jailbreak features? There's just so much JUNK out there on Cydia that it's hard to figure out what's good and what's not even worth installing.

I'm a big fan of MxTube for HD YouTube archival purposes, although it does kill your disk space pretty quickly.

EDIT: Just checked the docs list in the OP, and while pretty vague on the actual quality of the apps, SpringFlash and Weathericon look like a couple of must haves as well.
