I'm trying to make an x-ray detector, so far I have the x-ray device a game boy and some copper wire. How do I make a LCD display? It says I'm supposed to combine a piece of copper wire with the gameboy to make a display but it doesn't work the way I can combine a rod and spring. What am I doing wrong? Did the recipe change in the last patch or something? I feel like an idiot...

I hate Ira simply because her voice feels like somebody is stabbing me in the ear repeatedly with a screwdriver. That has ragged edges. And is also on fire.

You can get a lameboy display by using a utility knife on a gameboy, or sometimes you find them on their own.

You could use the XML editor to throw whatever it is you want into a random merc's starting gear and then hire them for a day, or make it buyable from Bobby Ray's, but I don't know of any way more direct than that.

You can still use them in the same sector and have them travel at the same time, they just need to be formally assigned to different squads. I have lost track of the times that for example Gasket abandoned me because he was forced to march in the vicinity of some damned Communists. I.e. he did not desert while marching, obviously, but as soon as we stopped in a sector (the second the travel ended) he gave his speech and deserted. Ever since then I have sent the squads out with like 2-3 minutes difference, to avoid that. (They still enter fights together if you storm a sector; the first squad waits for the second, etc.) Also, this desertion happened a lot when several squads captured a sector, and then Gasket or who ever would desert while I was cleaning up the bodies and looting the place immediately afterward. And yes, in every case the haters were placed in different squads. Or has this changed? I got so set in my way that it has become second nature for me to always send squads out in intervals now. (PS. Buzz is the best, now and for ever -- go girl, pay those horrible males back!)

It's just that I haven't played with mercs that hate each other in ages -- fortunately all the psychos (Razor, Haywire, Fidel, Gasket, Maddog, etc.) get along just fine Anyway, I'm pretty keeping them in separate squads does at least raise the threshold of the mercs getting pissed to the point where one will just leave though, so if you absolutely must have two of them reach a sector at the same time, this is at least a tad better than having them move in the same squad.

I'm going to try using pistols, but I really like using an IMP sniper. I like the distance that sniping affords, it means you don't have to deal with the nastier things the baddies can throw at you when you're closer, like mustard gas and stun grenades.

wargames posted:Is there any way for a sniper IMP to start with an m24 cheating wise since I am also having this problem with all of my IMP guys starting with MP5s. Go to the XML editor, open up the IMP starting items inventory, look for Marksmanship. You get one item out of the ten possible slots listed, and each slot corresponds to a "slice" of ten Marksmanship points, i.e. if your Marksmanship is 30-39 then you get what's in the fourth slot. Find the slot that corresponds to how much Marksmanship your dude is going to have (I'm guessing 85+ so the ninth slot), modify it so it has an M24 in it, save and exit, launch the game, create an IMP with 80-89 Marksmanship. If you want ammo, you'll probably have to edit other bits and bobs to put some M24 clips in there. There's items for having the sniper traits, but you get one of those at random per level of the trait IIRC - so you could try adding a clip to each slot on the sniper skill and hopefully you'll have two or three at the start of the game.

Two questions about the XML editor: Is there a way to easily revert to the original settings after editing and saving them? Is there way to edit certain things in bulk (like removing the Sci-Fi mode check from a bunch of guns)? Also do you have to start a new game for all changes or just to benefit from some of them? (Like editing what a starting IMP gets, for instance)

I decided to man it up and stick with the Wildfire map. You just have to be more vigilant about taking out patrols before assaulting a city. Man, does that map like to drop gads and gads of ammo and weapons on you. Every city has at least one weapons depot with tons of weapons and ammo, and the SAM sites and other military installations just have tons of poo poo. It's ridiculous that I have LAWS, grenade launchers, and mortars only after taking Drassen. I was playing without enemies drop all items on, and slightly slower bobby ray's progression, and the wildfire map just kind of throws that progression out the window. It's still pretty fun, though. Also found an SVD and the Chitzena guards have absolutely no defense against it. An odd quirk is that every time I order ammo from bobby ray's, I find like 200 rounds in a warehouse that same day. But yeah, after taking out Drassen and its SAM site, my entire squad was kitted out with decent to good assault rifles with attachments. The last time that happened to me was when I put Bobby Ray's on the highest setting and cheated some money to buy my gear. So this map is a little ridiculous. Also, while I like the more realistic building layouts, there are a LOT of tight, cramped spaces that are super hard to navigate. I haven't had to do any indoor fighting yet, but hopefully the Alma military base is a bit more spacious otherwise that could be a pretty big pain in the rear end. I like the new town layouts, though. Dr. Video Games 0031 fucked around with this message at 20:14 on Jun 19, 2011 |

You shouldn't need to do this. I haven't done much with the current version, but in previous ones the game was smart enough to automatically give you ammo for whatever weapon you were getting.

SpookyLizard posted:Good to know. How often does he restock and/or can I tweak how often he restocks? I don't remember seeing anything in the .ini editor. It's not something that can be adjusted in the .ini, it's just every 2-3 in-game days or so. I don't know the exact value but it's not an unreasonably long amount of time. Unrelated, but with the recent release of 1.13 I've finally invested enough time into a single game to make it to the end-game. A few things I've learned: -Mortars are ridiculously good. All you need is a merc with a scope/binoculars and with enough ammo you can just mortar an entire map without the enemy ever seeing anyone. -Rod + Spring is basically cheating. The rate of fire I can get out of some weapons is ridiculous, putting out 20+ bullets even with the maximum aim level for the weapon. -Scope is my new favorite merc after scoring two kills with one shot from an anti-material rifle. That was just awesome. -Camouflage makes a BIG difference. Stealth in the game still kind of sucks, but a fully camoed merc is MUCH better at hiding than one with just a camo steel helmet or something. -Tanks are loving jerks. Total party kill from one shot my rear end! -There seems to be a turning point with money in this game. For half of it I could barely afford to keep my team of 6 mercs (counting the free ones) on board. Then all of a sudden I had $160,000 and could not possibly spend money faster than I was making it, short of just throwing it away by ordering stuff I don't need from BR's. -I'm pretty sure it's impossible to get into the military training base in Alma before some jerk sets off the alarm and blows up the firing range (there's supposed to be a rocket rifle there I think? I don't know since I've never had them not blow the stupid thing up). I tried sneaking in a dozen times and every time, if someone spotted me, even if I killed them that turn with a silent weapon, the alarm would go off and BOOOOM. Playing my first game in more than a decade. Is there a good reference for which backpacks/vests/holsters/legs to get? I've probably wasted a good $15k in buying random miscellaneous gear from BR just trying to get my squad to carry more poo poo. Naturally I gently caress up so I've got random gear littered all over the floor. Also, how the hell do you sell poo poo? The airport at Drassen has enough guns on the ground to be a movie scene from Commando. I have my main merc with Steyr Aug 3 (Pretty sure that's not the name but - it's the Steyr with the random sized ammo) with just a laser sight, foregrip and reflex sight. He's 1 shotting everything with headshots. I'm sitting in Grumm, about to head over to Alma, btw.

To get the full worth, haul that poo poo to San Mona and sell it at the gun store.
