Hyper On Experience - Lord of The Null Lines

.....

Anyways, I have a problem. I'm really picky about what music I like.

I don't like the High Contrast and Dieselboy styles of drum and bass too much. The light and dark kinds of dnb mentioned in the OP.

Both of them sound... not bad, but not interesting either. I have trouble picking up on any catchy melodies or interesting rhythms when I listen to those. I'm sure they're there, but my brain just doesn't recognize them.

On the other hand, I love old school jungle and breakbeat hardcore, and I also like a lot of the new "atmospheric" dnb I've heard.

Here's where the problem comes in. I like really intense, fast paced music. Jungle isn't made anymore, as far as I know. And the atmospheric dnb is good, but it's too slow and relaxing for me most of the time. Makes me sleepy instead of excited.

Basically, what I'm looking for, is an updated version of those tracks above. Especially numbers 2 and 5.

Is there anything that even resembles that still being made today? Or is it completely dead?

If you like that Hyper On Experience track, you'll probably enjoy some early 21st century John B, like Up All Night.

You might like some more recent J-Majik tracks, like Crazy World, or old stuff like Cleveland Lounge's Drowning, the Dave Aude remix.

I'm with you in loving that particular era.

Dave Aude does drum and bass? I guess I know him more for house/trance remixes of tracks.

I am currently in love with Noisia & Phace's new track Program. As I've said earlier in this thread, I really don't care for a lot of the darker side of drum and bass, but I love the stuff Noisia put outs. It sometimes takes a few plays of a song before I can honestly say "yeah, i like this track" when it comes to this stuff, but it is growing on me.

I rarely spend less than 5 bucks on a record, unless its a reggae 45 or something. Just spent 50 bucks on three new singles from bleep but it will be totally worth it when they get here :)

Also getting paid gigs help pad out the cost of records.

This may be a bit late and apologies if it has already been brought up earlier in the thread but I was just wondering if anyone else has heard Chase & Status's most recent album No More Idols? I just grabbed a copy of it today and I have to say it is definitely a departure from their usual style if compared to their last album More Than Alot.

Still the album stands out as a testament to Chase & Status's versatility. Genre-wise the tracks are all over the place which isn't nescessarily a bad thing. As an example Chase & Status Feat. Sub Focus & Takura - Flashing Lights is pretty trancey with a hint of dubstep while Chase & Status Feat. Plan B - End Credits is a heavy hitting yet slightly liquid vocal D&B track.

Having a soft-spot for grime I enjoyed seeing Tempa T featuring in the track Hypest Hype although it may not be for everyone (TTEEEEEMMPZZZZ). The two tracks featuring Plan B, Fool Yourself and End Credits, are pretty much identical stucturally to Pieces from More Than Alot however they are still heavy hitters.

There isn't really a single track that can neatly sum up this album and for many the majority of them will be hit-and-miss but I like to think that it has something for everyone.

Edit: huh just realised that the video clip for End Credits that I linked features scenes from the movie Harry Brown. Great movie and well worth a watch.

Nothing Skrillex does can be classified as drum & bass. I'm with you, I think Skrillex's stuff owns too. Probably gonna get flack around these parts for that since everyone seems to hate Skrillex here for some reason, but whatever. But yeah, his stuff is more a mixture of dubstep and electro.

Is it because all that he produces is poo poo by chance? All of his songs sound the same, because he uses all of the same samples and sounds repeatedly. I love electro-house and even quite a bit of dubstep, but I can't stand the utter crap that skrillex spews out - not to mention just about any of the "dubstep" from the US. Absolute crap.

yeah I know. but like I said there was no other thread. anyway, I agree that u.s. dubstep is bunk for the most part but skrillex is loving rad and most of you dnb sissies enjoy music that is repetitive as gently caress. face it: dnb died as soon as idiots started veering away from raga, the only decent form of dnb. sorry for your fail-rear end old music.

Hey hey, some people like Skrillex and some people like dnb. I personally like both.

This thread is for drum n bass, though. It's not dead. There are many producers cranking out quality tunes even today. And the point of having this thread is so people can post/discuss tracks/producers they enjoy both from the 90s (what many consider the golden age of dnb) as well as stuff that just came out.

I like this post, it's funny how you're essentially apologising for listening to a mainstream label in the past, then you go on to say you've 'moved on' to another mainstream label. Just listen to the music you like and gently caress what people on the Internet have to say about it (which of course includes me, but hey). I mean, I'm not a fan of the direction Hospital have taken in the last 18 months or so, but if they put out something I like I'll be more than happy to listen to it.

-

As for the apparently notorious SITBM, he has a vaguely valid point hidden within the vitriol in that dnb peaked back when it was more "urban", for lack of a better word, and that it is increasingly seen as a dying genre for middle-aged men. The main reason that it's stayed alive this long is because it's borrowed heavily from other genres (see trancestep and more recently drumstep).

Skrillex is simply the result of worldwide Internet backing. Imagine if the teens of the early 90s had easy, free access to hardcore and jungle.

Hey Hey some people think Skrillex is a steaming load of dog poo poo with no place in this or any thread

if you think his music is worthwhile in any way you don't belong; make a new thread called "LFO modulation, screaming infantile synth-fits, and utterly predictable large dynamic range MEGATHREAD" Also Rageaholic Monkey i'm including you and Pendulum into this, gently caress that poo poo it's embarrassing, and so is most of Hospital's output right now.

This thread needs to a refresh from the same repetitive poo poo both musically and the content. As soon as someone posted something actually slightly fresh (the Autonomic sound w/ examples) people ignored and went back to EVERY FRIDAY POST YOUR 5 FAVOURITE (MAINLY OBNOXIOUS LIQUID) YOUTUBES.

I don't follow dnb as closely anymore but surely there's more discussion to be had, i see Ram records almost hit 100 with Wilkinson and other relatively new talent leading the way, Renegade Hardware's return, S.P.Y's huge amount of excellent work and collabs he's doing lately, ASC doing release after release with nice consistency and good production. Certainly more to talk about that what's your latest 5 and WHOA CAMO & KROOKED DID A REALLY PREDICTABLE SHITE ELECTRO TRACK.

Personally this week i'll buy the new Blokh4ed, Marky & S.P.Y on Innerground, a really interesting Fractune & Neptune Ltd Edition (always liked those guys for proper liquid). I was feeling maybe the Big Bud CD too but tbh it's not THAT good. Just feels like this guy's been around forever and is worth supporting. Also i want the Blue Motion LP too... not just cause it's some nice tunes but the artwork on it is great: http://i1.sndcdn.com/artworks-000006374951-8id5l9-original.jpg?2b64c8d

That would truly be a nice 12" to own and not even play.

Anyway thanks to those who have posted mixes, enlightening comments or otherwise actually made sense in this thread.
