I don't know if the spot injured him or if it was how they were writing him out, but BDK Delirious pushed Crossbones into a ring post and fractured or broke one of his bones, so he seems to be out for good.

Given the circumstances (Crossbones hit the post off camera, and they were trying to build up Delirious as a monster), my assumption is Crossbones broke his collarbone previously, and they used that to write him out. Still, that was a long time ago, and I haven't heard anything from Bones since. No idea if the injury was worse than expected - then again a clavicle injury is serious poo poo - and he decided to quietly retire, or what. I always liked the big guy.
