I've seen Crank 2, but don't seem to have gotten quite as much out of it (not trying to be sarcastic here)--but I think I get what you're saying. It seems like HDGTM just took so much of what was clearly meant to be humorous and referential and stylistic and just accepted it at face value.

That's kind of HDGTM's main issue for me--they're not horrible, but they hew too closely to the film while still kind of missing the point (except for when the film's absolutely horrible, in which case there's not really a point to really miss.)

If you want a funny, in-depth analysis of a movie done by people who know what they're talking about, We Hate Movies does it better. If you want comedy, then The Flop House is funnier.

Right now he is a professional bartender in Brooklyn. At least thats what I found out at Dan McCoy's birthday party. Having met Stuart a couple of times I'd say he's not too far off from the guy you described. Nice guy, though.

This has happened more than a couple of times on Uhh Yeah Dude. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is how they used to completely miss the obvious joke in the "help us lick breast cancer" campaign, but there were a few more occasions where they've done this.

I tried to like How Did This Literally Get Made because I like Paul and Jason, but it's so obnoxious. I was hoping for more humorous deconstruction, but it's mostly just a bunch of yelling and forced exasperation. I'm looking forward to checking out those other two. Because I don't listen to enough podcasts already.

have you checked out The Greatest Movie Ever podcast? You should, there's a lot of good earnest deconstruction. It's not really a humor podcast but it's a lot nicer to listen to and the hosts are super geeky but on-point and appreciative of the little things. As often as not they'll find a lot to like in weird b-movies and cult fare.

The Greatest Movie Ever

I can second this, but you should be aware that while the main host is entertaining and informative the same can't be said about all of his rotating guest-hosts. The ones with his Mom(!) or his friend Sean are solid, but the rest are hit or miss. The best episodes are the ones where they alternately gush and gently rib over-the-top action flicks (Total Recall, Commando, Surviving the Game), or unearth some half-remembered from cable TV B movie gem and put it through some analysis (Streets of Fire).

I asked about Fast Karate for the Gentlemen before, and decided to revisit it. The verdict: they seem to have branched into more of a video game/anime podcast/vlog, and moved away from being two nerdy dudes ripping on pop-culture hilariously. Nothing wrong with that, but not going back on my weekly listen list.

Still, this episode where they riff about some forgotten 80s anime movie, still remains one of the funnier podcasts I've ever heard. If you dig that, then ctrl-f their rss feed and get any episode about 24 or something called "Bubblegun Crisis".

Am I the only one who feels that MBMBAM straight up rips off UYD at times? The dentistry section in the newest episode really sticks out to me. It sounds like 3 Seths talking at once, they even do a fake craigslist ad that sounds just like the old UYD bit. Not necessarily a bad thing, they're still hilarious, but I can't stop hearing it.

I can confirm that Griffin, at least, is a big UYD fan. I asked him about it on Twitter, following several usages of the words "respecognize" and "pre-pro" on the show. It's not unfair to assume that the others are fans, as well.

Justin has told me that You Look Nice Today is a big influence on their show as well.

There's nothing wrong with having awesome influences, in my mind. Keep in mind, my own shows take cues from all three of the podcasts involved, so I may just be projecting.

Ok let's be fair here, none of those are some obscure secret language. If they're fans I'm sure UYD influences their idea of funny though.

All the saying that people are attributing to UYD are things that come from somewhere else. I've heard all these things before I ever heard MBMBaM and I've never listened to UYD. I've said "in dem guts" jokingly before I ever listened to even one podcast. While they might be copying eachother neither of them came up with the sayings so to me it doesn't matter.

I have a soft spot for him ever since I saw him at my college in the spring of 09 (yes, yes, all hipster "before he was famous!"). There were maybe 25 people there tops and he loving killed. He does really well with small/personal groups. There's almost no difference between him doing his comedy and him shooting the poo poo with people, and I think it showed pretty well on this one.

This is exactly what I was trying to say. The show is funny on its own and I don't mind them having similar slang, but occasionally it descends into what could be seen as joke thieving and I find it really uncomfortable to listen to.
