I just got a Fistful of Dollars Blu-Ray and I'm wondering, is it just my PS3 or does everyone look like they have their original lines lip synced?

The vast majority of Italian movies from that time period were filmed silent and dubbed over later. You're noticing that because the lines were lip synced.

Clint Eastwood is Italian? What is going on?

Italian cinema has a tradition about getting the physical performance while filming then dubbing it later. This meant that they didn't really care about where the person doing the acting was from or if they could speak Italian as long as they looked the part. I've heard there are even times where they dubbed over Italian actors speaking Italian because they wanted to use a different voice for the actor.

When shooting those movies Eastwood is speaking English, most of the others are speaking Italian, and all of them are dubbed later, so even the English speakers look out of sync. This applies to pretty much any and every Leone/Bava/Argento movie. Those wacky Italians.

Last payday coincided nicely with the release of the extended LOTR films on Blu ray. Buying them certainly felt like an indulgence, given I owned the DVDs, and the extras seem to be the exact same DVDs I already have (I suppose there's no huge advantage to making the extras high def, but c'mon, there must have been a few extra titbits, a deleted scene or two, you could have added to the collection). Still, it looks absolutely lovely. I didn't notice any green skies, despite looking out for them. Now I can see all the effort they put into making Christopher Lee's costume look weathered and worn.

If there wasn't a coupon code that dropped it to $13 around the time it came out I wouldn't have bought it at all. The first two Futurama movies were produced in high def (David Cohen even says they should be released on blu ray soon) and yet it's been like 3 years and nothing.

Topper Harley posted:I saw this and have been thinking about it a lot. It makes sense since it's hosted by Donald Pleasance and Jamie Lee Curtis and was made around the same time as Halloween II, but why would they make it a special feature? It's a pretty rare VHS tape and never made it to DVD. It would be awesome to see (especially if it's in HD), but considering the treatment all other Halloween II releases have gotten, I'm somewhat doubtful. Agreed on both counts. I understand the connection, but don't understand why they don't give it its own release. My concern is that, for one, since its been a rights issue as to why it never made its way to DVD, did they just now get it cleared up only to dump it as a special feature? If its true, that I can only hope that they will release it uncut and in high definition.

I had never seen the whole thing until a few weeks ago on HBO HD and god drat it's a little cheesy, but I loved it. The music is really the high point of the film, and it looks absolutely amazing also.

I bought a second hand Gladiator blu ray from a video rental place. How can I tell if it's the lovely one? It's pretty grainy, but then again so is my 300 so I can't tell when something is really poo poo or they are taking artistic license.

If the UPC is white, you have the old one. If the UPC is yellow, you have the new one.

Thanks for the answers - UPC is the barcode right? Mine is White, but I dont have a paramount icon anywhere, just a universal one. Looks like this http://www.coversdaddy.com/frontcovers/gladiator-2000-dutch-r2-blu-ray-front-cover-5795.jp but I bought mine in the UK.

I picked up It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World from Walmart... Image quality is phenomenal. Correct 2.55:1 framing, Technicolor level color vibrancy, razor sharp detail, and only light scratches. No issues with DVNR like the DVD, the overture is intact (on a black screen, no less), and the credits are correctly color timed. It IS the general release version, though, with the workprint-only scenes as an extra.

I'm finally starting to roll through that America Lost And Found: The BBS Story boxset. Head was amazing looking and I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. If you just go along for the trip, it can be a very fun movie. And even better, most of the extras are in HD. I wish the other studios would look at Criterion and follow their lead (or at least not release extras in SD when they already have it mastered in HD...Warner with Blade Runner )
