Are there mods like GZDoom for the Star Wars Dark Forces games? I just picked up the pack on Steam for $13 and wouldn't mind the nice updating of Sprites so it looks the same just in a higher resolution.

I just picked up the yellow keycard in the first level of NRFTW and I think I'll leave this for the weekend. And on the topic of E4M1 of Ultimate Doom, I decided to try and 100% the bastard a few weeks ago and managed it after a few dozen tries. gently caress that NIN secret up its loving rear end in a top hat, and gently caress American McGee for designing that map.

So after playing through Singularity I'm in the mood for more of an old-school FPS. I considered replaying Quake 4, then remembered I never actually finished Heretic, so I'm getting stuck in to episode 4. I was wondering, though: are there any good high-res textures and sprites for Heretic? Googling around found some references to "Razuman's texture pack", but all the download links are dead. I'm also wondering if there are any Q2 ports out there that support the old mission packs, as I never finished them back in the day and kind of want to while I'm in an old-school FPS mood. I used q2max to replay the original a while ago, but as far as I can tell it doesn't support the expansions. I'm also considering trying Doom again, oh god what is happening to me

The entire Quake series (except 4) is $7.49 today. If you're in here and don't have these games, you're really missing out.

Well I just bought that id Super Pack from the Steam Sale and now I'm really getting bit by the classic FPS bug. Playing Ultimate Doom is a real trip. I'm shocked at both how well the game holds up and at how much specific detail I remember from the shareware episode way back when. Everything past episode 1 will be brand new to me so I'm really looking forward to that. I blasted through this thread today and didn't see much talk about Wolfenstein 3D. What's the best way to play that with modern controls? I tried out "NewWolf" and I like the fact that you can move with WASD, but I'd prefer if I could disable some of the graphical enhancement and keep the game fully integrated with Steam. I managed to get GZDoom working with the full Steam treatment so I'm hoping there's a Wolfenstein engine out there that lets me do the same.

My DooM experience was always on PC except for the first game. I did the shareware of course and know most of the levels from DooM 2 but my real experience playing that loving game? On the SNES with the red cartridge. I don't even think you were able to save so I left it on all the time. Made it somewhere in the third episode -- those were good times.

I felt like that said a lot -- people choosing to play a 7-year-old game (at the time) over everything else that was available. In my book it's still one of the most entertaining mods out there. Doom 2 felt pretty standard at first, but it really picks up at Dead Simple. I wish Tricks and Traps had lasted a bit longer. The game basically forced me into the exit before I could explore more. Fighting a swarm of tough enemies while invincible was just great.

I just picked up the original Quake and love the chunky, lo-fi look of the original engine. However all the WinQuake 1.0.9 default resolutions mean black bars on the sides of my widescreen monitor... anyone know of an engine that allows custom resolutions without the GLQuake renderer?

I don't know why I'm doing this, but after I heard that DarkPlaces supports Half-Life maps, I made it my mission to try and bash Counter-Strike 1.6 maps into playing nice with the engine. The main problem: the textures don't work. As in, I have every required texture in the textures folder and it's just deciding not to load them in a lot of cases. Is there something I'm missing other than the obvious "why the hell are you trying to load CS maps in a Quake engine" problem? I've gone into resgen and made absolutely sure I had every wad the map referenced in the textures folder, so I'm assuming this is engine weirdness.

Any zDoom code wizards here? I can't figure out a way to make it so that random weapon spawners don't continually spawn weapons on top of each other. I want it to spawn one weapon at random and then stop spawning things until that weapon gets picked up.

I like Brutal Doom for the most part but hate the fact that shooting at something directly in front of you causes splash damage. It's really obnoxious when an imp or pinkie gets in your face.
