Before I produce a big list of links, are you looking for good Japanese music that sounds like those bands, or are you looking for good Japanese music in general. There are a lot of good Japanese jazz bands out there, for example.

Following up the Guitar Wolf recommendation, if you're into Garage Punk, also check out Teengenerate, The 5.6.7.8's, and Registrators. People seem to really like Guitar Wolf, but for my money, Teengenerate are a much better band.

A lot of early to mid 2000s Three 6 Mafia songs do it for me. Who the Crunkest, Get Buck Get Wild, Testin My Gangsta (this so g specifically, they use the Willy Hutch sample to make such an empowering beat), Poppin My Collar, Hypnotize Cash Money, etc. Tons of great upbeat and powerful songs about being the boss of all bosses.

Nothing wrong with that, Blind Guardian are awesome. As for other power metal, HammerFall is always a good bet, all of their albums are pretty solid so you can start anywhere. Manowar is good too, I started with Warriors of the World, and having listened to the rest of the catalog, I actually reckon it's a good place to start, covers a lot of styles, the production is good, and has one of the greatest album openers in "Call to Arms"

I'm partial to the older American bands like Omen, SA Slayer, and Brocas Helm. They aren't as over the top as a lot of newer power metal, but still fun as hell. There's some European bands from the same time and of a similar sound, jus a little less heavy thT are good too. I do t know enough about those bands to give a good rec though. These lists helped me out a lot. http://rateyourmusic.com/list/cirithungol/us_eighties_obscure_metal and http://rateyourmusic.com/list/cirithungol/obscure_eighties_eurometal. power metal is tricky because it can describe a couple different sounds, but those bands are more like Blind Guardian than say Hammerfall or Dragonforce or whatever.

Hello, I'm looking for something similar to Circus of Dead Squirrels, Polkadot Cadaver, Dethklok, or The Bunny The Bear. I like metal with lots of cartoon samples, a sense of humour, and a faster beat, basically.

For reference:

Circus of Dead Squirrels
The Bunny the Bear
Polkadot Cadaver
Dethklok

Barring that, some kind of themed non-gangsta rap/hip hop or whatever, like Dr. Steel or Professor Elemental.

Dr. Steel
Professor Elemental

Thanks for any help you can provide!

A friend was in Japan for a month and brought me back some CD's from a band called Bloodthirsty Butchers and I find myself really liking their sound. Anyone got some recommendations on bands that play slow, melodic rock, bonus if the guitars play more than chords and the singer having a hauntingly depressing voice.
It doesn't matter to me if the band sings in a foreign language.
I'm thinking a sound like this:

Try This Morn' Omina - The World Tree (which has a couple versions, on Au Dela de Tous Les Degres and Les Passages Jumeaux). I would include a youtube link but neither seems to be up. I do know it's up on turntable.fm though.

Dunno about the Stone Roses, as the one album that people consider good hits on a bunch of styles- maybe try some of the other "Madchester" bands, like The Happy Mondays. As for ethereal, you should check out the big shoegaze bands- Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Lush, Galaxie 500, Ride, etc. The Jesus and Mary Chain might be up your alley, as well.
