I messed with the lowspeed idle and the air fuel mix on my carb the other day and It seems to have worked out the rough running/stalling problems that had cropped up. Got new registration stickers too. Now just to get it inspected one last time. This is what I anticipate to get it inspected: fix manifold leak reattach rear-view mirror The passenger side seat belt is little messed up. but hopefully that wont be a problem and hopefully nobody says anything about the temp and fuel gauges that are absolutely non-working.

Why not put the rear-view mirror on before it helps fail your inspection? And do the other things too.

I got a $62 ticket for being 1 day beyond my inspection on my Cherokee. Even had the temp plates on the dash, since I had just put on the vanities that morning and was on my way to the garage. The trooper even told me that had I left the temp plates on, he wouldn't have issued a ticket. gently caress that. Also, reverse lights not working wasn't the NSS, thank god. Mechanic said they weren't getting power and just ran a 12v line to fix it. Considering an injector swap for my next paycheck - maybe a new intake setup. Wish my exhaust would just rust off so I could justify throwing a cat-free setup on it. I bet the 4.0HO sounds pretty sweet...

Lucky you, Kibblesnbits. My fiance went for a drive with his Cherokee uninspected (It had been off the road, just had a new engine put in, and we were moving, he decided to take his cousin out for lunch real quick in thanks for helping us move, and then go park it at the new house until it went for its inspection) and ended up with $400 in tickets and almost $200 in towing fees, as well as bus fare home from the side of the road

Just got back from a 1200 mile trip around Hells Canyon and had no trouble doing 80 up the mountain passes in a headwind with the top down. So don't believe all the "3.8 is a worthless piece of poo poo" hype. People are just mad and wondering why Jeep did away with the awesomeness of the 4.0L Im not believing the hype, i experienced it first hand in a 07 Unlimited X i owned for 3 years. Also the E-throttle is complete bullshit and the motor kills your power at the first sign of the wheels spinning. I went back to a 4.0 powered cherokee, and have no problems with power, the engine does what i tell it to, and it doesnt leak, both from the top and from the motor.

It probably helps to have a Rubicon with 4.10 gearing. But yeah I don't see the 3.8 liter doing too well with a big Unlimited and lower gear ratio.

Going to look at a 92 jeep cherokee tomorrow. Asking $750, which seems like a decent deal to me. Ad says it has 209000 miles on it. I'm looking for a daily driver to get me to work and back. Possibly some 40 mile trips on the weekends. I need to know what things to look for in upcoming repairs. Or any reasons why i should not buy this thing.

And when you push it, it stops doing that. I loving hate the ESP and any time I'm on dirt roads, it gets disabled. It causes more issues with my driving style than having it "help." I assume you can do that on the non-Rubi models? I don't know what options those come with. VVV There are some who would even disagree with that. I've discovered the most awesome tool ever for removing rust/old paint on my '48 willys. My girlfriend's dad let me borrow it. It has the same effect as a wire wheel but it doesnt get gummed up with dirt. I've probably removed half a pound of oily dirt and rust with this thing today.

Just gave a hand installing a 2" lift on a 4 door rubicon so the guy can run with 35" mud tires. Also, bent the rear support for my new trektop, so i went and bought a 48" 3/4" piece of steel pipe, and that turned out to be a perfect fit While i was picking up that piece, i grabbed 4 more and 2 pieces of skinny sheet metal that i intend to screw the other pipe lengths to, so i can make a support for the top above the driver/passenger seats. Should end up looking like a ribcage (of sorts) when i'm done with it, and should keep things from pooling in my top and making it sag

New waterpump,* heater core,** and wiper motor. Next up: install an intact windshield, and procure a lockplate tool so I can fix my wobbly tilt column. *Started leaking last winter. What do you guys recommend for removing rust on the body of my XJ? I have some surface rust developing on the passenger side that I need to tackle next weekend. Think I can just strip it down to the good metal, then give it a coat of primer or something?

I knew everything conceptually but hadn't done it. My hands on wrenching started when the clutch went on my Subaru, then my stock gearbox and a second gearbox. I bought a third gearbox, matching rear, and all sorts of other junk and swapped it in. Then this spring we ripped the leaky old 302 out of my fathers supercharged race mustang and tore it down, then built a new motor for it. A lot of my wrenching conceptual knowledge is just from reading and watching videos online, but the hands on experience I learned just tearing a motor down or fixing something worn out / broken. Compared to a V8 or a Subaru motor, a Jeep I6 is really really easy to work on.

I want to tackle this exhaust manifold leak soon, the ticking sound is driving me insane and my fuel economy is defiantly taking a hit. That APN manifold is going to run me $180, does anyone have a recommendation for something cheaper that isn't junk? Any thoughts on a Dorman brand? I can get one for about $100 shipped on ebay.

So I am thinking this is the crack in my manifold. It's right where the two pipes come together, which I assume is called the collector. EDIT: maybe it isn't the collector, I don't know what it is called. Right where the two pipes come together and it all becomes one pipe. Does anyone know anything about welding? I think I might take it off and see if having that done will hold up. I don't expect it to last but I am broke and willing to give it a shot first. What I am wondering is if it looks like an area that can be welded, before I got through the effort. EDIT: Eh, gently caress it. I was looking at it from a better angle and it it cracked pretty much straight around. I guess I am just going to have to pony up for a replacement. $110 Dorman from eBay sounds good. owls or something fucked around with this message at 01:33 on Jul 12, 2011 |
