This thread needs more action. I'm listening to Prayer for Cleansing and remembering what it was like for Between the Buried and Me to sound good. Also, thanks to this thread I've been listening to Exoplanet by The Contortionist and digging that a lot as well.

Hollywood is a VERY close second, with It Hates You being my least favorite. I fuckin' love He Is Legend, probably my favorite band. And nope, I agree, Suck Out the Poison is their best record. I feel that I Am Hollywood is their most catchy album, but both Suck Out the Poison and It Hates You are more gratifying in the long run. Also, "Everyone I Know Has Fangs" is a monster of a track - goddamn Schuylar Croom has an amazing voice.

As with their last couple of tapes, I had to listen to it a few times to "get" it, but now I'm going wild. My favorites right now are "Divine Illusion" "The Past Will Haunt Us Both" and "A Pure Evil". It really seems like they spent all that time, with the constant pushing back of the release date, on making it as good as possible. I'm pretty thrilled. Also I don't know what song you posted because it has been taken down

Yeah, definitely took a few listens to soak it in, and I'm liking the that the shredding has been toned down a bit and the sound is more like TPoE. Very solid stuff and yes, people will complain about it, but nobody really does this style of music better than All Shall Perish. The song I posted was My Retaliation. Love the intensity in that song. krustster posted:I have a treat for you and I hope U like it. It gets a lot better after the beginning. How did I miss this release? Great production and sounds amazing on a system. My only complaint is that it's kinda hard to differentiate between songs, since they all sound similar with the exception of like 2 songs. Maybe I need more spins on it, but I like it so far. MalConstant fucked around with this message at 04:57 on Jul 15, 2011 |

From what I hear, the band just got burned out from being attached to a scene they felt no connection to, being on lovely tours with lovely bands and generally getting screwed over by the labels. Hopefully, they just need time to distance themselves from that whole experience so they can get together and write some new material. They are too talented not to. Also, I saw Maylene with Schuylar here in Copenhagen, so nyah :P !

Yea man I have no idea how I missed it either, I only found out about them by randomly looking at "similar bands to The Ghost Inside" on last.fm. As you might guess, most of them really weren't similar at all. The songs are a bit samey but many of them have incredible parts that stand out. And really with that ridiculous level of intensity I'm fine with listening to a bunch of similar-sounding awesome stuff.

Listening to the new Chelsea Grin.. it's not doing much for me yet. Just finishing up the second song, though. Hope it goes somewhere better than this. e: nah this album is boring as poo poo... I did also get ahold of that Breakdown of Sanity and although it's generic, it's heavy and fun. ShoogaSlim fucked around with this message at 01:55 on Jul 16, 2011 |

Ehh, BDM and Unearth are just alright to listen to. I like listening to them on a bike ride or working out, but they don't give me a boner you know. I am enjoying Suffokate's new album and I've also been enjoying this stuff, not sure if you guys want this in the thread cause it's not straight up metalcore. Yourlastbreath - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRy74D8eVFQ I love this poo poo, I'd love to hear recommendations about similar stuff. Misericordiam - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBJzhP9nYMc death/grindcore. pretty rad Lionheart - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBJzhP9nYMc I haven't been listening to these guys all that recently but they got pretty big since I last hung out with them and they deserve some extra attention. Killing the Dream - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4yOUxUjT0s not metalcore but awesome hardcore with some real brutal breakdowns.(starts at 45 seconds in! this build up gets me superrrr pumped).

As far as 'core tapes of the last few months or so, I'll give you a few favorites.. I dunno if you want recommendations or if you just were curious but here u go All Shall Perish - This Is Where It Ends: already been discussed above, but as we've already confirmed, it's absolutely awesome and I think it was worth the slightly increased wait. Once again they have the same general sound but with some noticeable changes. Rather than going int he same direction they headed with Awaken the Dreamers it seems like they just went with something altogether different. It almost sounds more like their first album. Breakdown of Sanity - Mirrors: Videos above, basically above-average Parkway Drive worship combined with absurdly heavy, groovy and plentiful breakdowns. "Story of a Stranger" has breakdowns that just keep leading into different breakdowns. It's a Neanderthal's paradise. Salt the Wound - Kill the Crown: this band's sound is deceptive as it seems very typical on the surface, but after some listening you find they have very creative guitar work with unique rhythms and whatnot. It's kinda hard to describe accurately so try this on for size: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOVca2hZW4g Nightshade - Lost in Motion: I hesitate to post about this band because I know a lot of people are going to hate it, but still I think this is the best straight up "deathcore" album of the year so far. The only thing is.... well... there are some horrid Auto-Tuned vocals in there. BUT IT'S ONLY IN 3 SONGS I SWEAR! If you can look past that then you will be wildly blown away. I still don't know what they were thinking when they put those vocals in but I eventually grew to accept it. They are used to especially humorous effect (with a killer transition afterward) in "You Can't See Through My Eyes" but here is a song without the gay parts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nl6N3qp0RhU The Plot in You - First Born: Very interesting sound, kind of what the new For the Fallen Dreams tape should have been but wasn't. There's a lot of Bury Your Dead style parts along with absurd brutal breakdowns and some clean vocals that are actually really good. You could try it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWZ33bAqWGE Born of Osiris - The Discovery : you should have heard this one by now. if all these were interesting in any way let me know and I will tell you of some more tapes

Here's a mate of mine's band from Perth, Australia - Storm The Shores. THey've only played one gig so far which went pretty well and are working on getting some decent tracks layed down, but they've got demos here: https://www.facebook.com/!/pages/Storm-the-Shores/100126440073834?sk=app_178091127385 and: http://www.myspace.com/stormtheshoresmusic Fairly stock-standard metalcore/hardcore stuff but they've got a a fair bit of talent going on and way too much practice time behind them. The demo's they have aren't the best quality, the drums sound like someone bashing bins in.

I like breakdowns when they are good, sparse, and surprising or unpredictable. When a song is 50% breakdowns it really kills the impact they should have.

A song can be 100% breakdowns for all I care as long as they're good... I will render my award-winning opinion after I listen to the songs in question.

Between the direction that Emmure is taking and the fact that Jonathan Davis showed up in a Suicide Silence song I think you might be right. However, with the emergence of poo poo rear end loving AWFUL bands like Abandon All Ships and Attack Attack, etc. I think we're due for the trend of techno-core bullshit to be around for a little bit.
