So the Identity Festival has a special deal today: $20 tickets for the next 20 hours! I wonder why the sudden (desperate?) promotion - perhaps because nobody wants to attend an EDM event featuring seating and no open floor space?

I'm not really into minimal house that much, my favourite would have to be Dreamcatcher by DJ Josh Blackwell & DJ Miss Babayaga, but aside from that, I get fuzzy on individual tracks. In more production related news, among other things, I'm working on a complextro track right now. It's nowhere near completed, though.

They are trying to do a vans warp tour of dance music without the financial backing of target, have expensive names, while hitting secondary and third-tier markets. All to the ticket pricing of...120 dollars?! They might as well remove LA from their roster, all the good acts have a no compete for HARD (summer AND halloween).

Yeah, saw em on Tuesday and they played a new song that was pretty dope, mellower than their older stuff. Too bad they closed with some "filthy bass".

Anyone in here into complextro? I searched back 20 pages but I can't find anything more than a passing reference. Some of my personal favourites in the genre Porter Robinson, Uppermost, Ryan Enzed, Zedd, Darth and Vader, Spencer & Hill. If you don't know what complextro is, it's basically like electro house filled to the brim with synth stabs. Multiple instruments with different sounds and a common bassline, basically. It's at a house tempo, and commonly has progressive style buildups. It's often mixed up with dubstep(probably because many complextro producers also produce dubstep?) and a pretty cool subgenre. Some examples for those curious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXQnuA0sEcQ Spencer & Hill - Yeah Yeah Yeah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXJIMrsO6yc Darth And Vader - Return of the Jedi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dxk2nZ0qy-U Uppermost - Pwnage Method http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZFkNxGUElU Ryan Enzed - Snow Shower http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZ_aoZXyAL8 Skrillex - Weekends(Zedd Remix) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2NJzT-19lE Porter Robinson - I'm On Fire

melee beats posted:its funny that you linked this video Just to chime in here out the blue, but this is totally it. If you ask me, Youtube and forums are the biggest problems for any dance genre at the moment. The kind of things I see and read about are just bizarre. People not knowing the simplest thing. Like I saw someone actually ask what the faders on a mixer do, no joke. Sure you have to start from somewhere, but poo poo's just getting ridiculous now when you can't even find the skill or wherewithall to move a fader yourself to see what it does, to try and actually do something for yourself, figure out something for yourself. As for 'Complextro' terrible loving name, probably made up by a bunch of 18 year old producers who, in reality, don't really make very good tunes but feel they're being kept down by 'the man'! Or the bigger name producers and DJs or whatever, so they decide to invent their own name in an attempt to circumvent actually having to put in some hard graft, some effort, so they don't actually have to start out at the bottom and using their own skill, talent and imagination to actually rise up and become noticed, just like every other big name did. A lot of these last couple of tunes posted kind of reminds me of the demos in actual synths. Like if you've ever played with a hardware synth the manufacturer tends to (or used to) put in like wee demo songs to show you what it can do. Basically use as many of the on-board sounds as possible and max out the polyphony. That's what goes in my head when I hear a lot of these things.
