I already put on a new arm, that's not the problem. The plastic nozzle the tubing goes on snapped off the assembly. Unless I mis-remember, the nozzle doesn't just pop in/out, and is part of the entire mounting part for the arm, meaning I need that entire thing. I wish I'd kept the bit that snapped and just Krazy glued it back in or something.

My rear leafs are pretty flat looking, but I don't really know anyone with new ones to compare them to. Should they be curved on an XJ? Maybe I'll throw an add-a-leaf at it instead of a rear shackle lift.

I live in central PA and there is no such thing as flat roads around here unless I am on an interstate. I don't really mind the bouncing around too much so it isn't much of a priority right now. I should really be saving my money for other things anyway.

As soon as I start posting in this thread, poo poo starts breaking. Just got out to the parking lot, noticed a spot of oil under the XJ. That makes me paranoid. Popped the hood, checked the oil. Very low. Like engine-siezing low. gently caress. Why didn't my gage tell me that the pressure sucked?

Put in three quarts and started it up and the electrical connector on the oil pressure sending unit immediately starts pissing like a race horse. gently caress. And of course, nearest auto parts place is a 20 minute drive and the part is special order. They should have it in from another store sometime this evening, I just need to hitch a ride out and back. I didn't even notice when the leak started. I was probably 10 miles from needing a new engine. Who the gently caress makes sending unit housings out of lovely plastic, anyway?

Oh Jeep, why do I continue to love you when you treat me like this? :(

Sandbagger is at the shop getting its last inspection sticker. 2 front bearings, manifold gasket, and body mount bushings (quoted at $700 parts and labor).

Next week, I'll be doing the nutter bypass in my driveway. according to the Haynes manual, the reason my engine diesels could be due to the manifold leak or the timing being set wrong by the ECM. We'll see if either fixes the problem.

So, yeah. I replaced the sender unit. Leak stopped. What happens next? I broke one of the fittings on the driver's side rear brake line while driving home. Brake fluid all over. Why hath the Jeep God forsaken me?

Sunday: stripping surface rust, priming, and painting.
Monday: dropping it at my mechanics to have the phantom squeaky noise tracked down and a brake line put in.
Tuesday: Breaking something expensive, I am sure.

His name is Josh and he's a pretty cool guy. He did a Ford 8.8 swap into my 01 XJ, it's a solid install and the axle is beefy as gently caress. Yay for disc brakes in the rear now too. I used him since I don't have a garage or access to tools, he does good work.

I suggest taking advantage of his 20% off at Rough Country, but he will install other brands of lifts if that's what you want.

Bought mine through REI. I was going to get a new tent, but it's actually a lot lighter, and more compact. Plus no tent poles or anything. I was trying it out on a 'car camping' trip before one of my actual long backpacking hikes.

Clean as hell, just a tiny spot on the passenger floorboard I have to sand and paint.

Coming from a pretty much stock XJ (apart from whopping 225/75/15 tires!!) this one has totally different road manners. Had a blast driving it home from Toronto. Funny how fast you learn to drive 5 spd. when you have no other way home.

RIP XJ. You will be missed :smith:

Hi there, socket caps!
Why would you do this? If you're getting chewed-up or hard to remove fasteners, you don't want to be replacing them with socket caps. You'd be far better replacing the ones with sufficient access with hex heads or bihex 12-points, and keeping the 6-lobe internals where you've got no choice.

That's actually make me more likely to go for hexes, unless you need them to be countersunk flush, dealing with internal wrenching configurations that are full of paint sounds like a pain in the arse. Did they intend that these would be one-time-only assembly jobs from the factory?

I'm surprised no-one will just sell you a kit with corrosion resistant fasteners, I'd have thought there's be a big market for Wranglers for things like that.

Bucephalus posted:

That sounds plain weird to me. I've shattered a couple of 6-lobe bits before, but not chewed them up like that, and I round off internal hexes as soon as I look at the bloody things. If you find it happens with several brands the same way, I don't know what's going on.
