You should also make the disassemble recipes (for paired weapons) only appear if you have a paired weapon in inventory.

You know what, goons? I didn't like New Vegas all too much the first time I played it when it was 1 hour fresh right off Steam and it felt like my computer was not only a half year old with top specs, it ran so bad. But I think that has changed now and I can probably play this game without being annoyed.

I can't do that without adding mods, seeing how much fun that was in Oblivion.

What are the "mandatory" things and mods I should be having to make my F:NV-experience not be ruined again?

Nothing's really mandatory. The gameplay is far more complete out of the box than Fallout 3's ever was. People who tweak the gameplay are generally doing so for second, third or fortieth playthroughs. I wouldn't recommend delving into these except for repeat performances. Many of them are designed specifically to keep the game fresh after repeated play, and the others change stuff that you may not want fixed. You'd have to have played extensively to have a good handle on how the game works before you can go about altering it to your satisfaction.

That said, get texture packs and poo poo. Poco Bueno has had good reviews, a couple of the radio mods are said to be good, there's a gunshot audio mod in the OP that's okay, people like Nevada Skies, etc.

The good news: Looks like another person took up the task of "fixing" the appearance of NPCs, a la "Project Beauty". The mod's compatible with all of the DLCs, too! LINK

It is actually pretty configurable and you can turn Enclave spawns off, which is what I'm playing it with. Still makes for some dynamic encounters and poo poo.

Some day, if I decide I'm done with The Armory for a long while, I may or may not start work on a quest/faction type mod. I have one in my head, but I won't even start it without doing a full doc for it so we'll see.

Mandatory mods: sunglasses mod, poncho mod, cannabis mod. :dealwithit:

(edit): a lot of the radio mods are good -- Conelrad and More Where That Came From are excellent. I love Fallout style music and having a wider variety of it is great because unmodded you'll hear the same songs like 80000 times and as great as they are it's like OH GOD loving BIG IRON AGAIN after awhile. Also as a bonus, you can still listen to Conelrad in the DLC areas where you lose most of your standard stations. Existence is really cool for something different in the tenser parts of the game.

I really don't use anything other than radio mods and cosmetic poo poo like sunglasses. And actually the sunglasses mod is kind of abusable since it gives you like 500 different pairs of sunglasses and you can sell them all at a pretty good price, so I don't know if I'd even install that on a fresh playthrough unless I felt like I could restrain myself. Or if I just didn't want to worry about money at all.

And why is it impossible for people to do quality control (has nothing to do with The Armory, I've already said how I feel :)). Playing "Run the Lucky 38" and there are literally like 4 different ways/methods to use the elevator/menu in it and none of them are similar, and one or two of them don't even send you to the right place, it really annoys the poo poo out of me and it seems to be a pretty cool mod. I mean how hard is it to put the same menu script for the elevator on everything.

If you're using Run the Lucky 38, don't use Victor unless you absolutely have to. That mod is quickly approaching the "feature creep" singularity and approximately .5% of it was ever tested. I used to love the mod, but the more I found in the Lucky 38, the less I liked. Things were out of hand when I found three fully stocked (with extremely powerful weapons) armories in one of the basements... one of which wasn't properly locked behind the "You have to pay 150,000 caps to get in." door.

The one feature that really convinced me to uninstall the mod and never look back was the "Haven" section. There were several "vaults" in between featureless cave systems. One of the vaults had something like six consecutive "airlocks" before it finally opened up to... another airlock, but one with two friendly turrets. There wasn't anything of noteworthy value in any of the vaults that I was able to find, either - beyond some random ammunition.

Several of the terminals I found down there had more of the horrid writing that seems to be endemic in the mod: screen after screen after screen of some supervisor or another keeping a "journal" and bitching about Mr. House. I don't recall any of them having been broken up into paragraphs. I believe one was seriously six screen lengths long.

Then, to top it all off, one of the deepest vaults had two locked VR pods. :suicide:

So yeah, stay the gently caress away from Run the Lucky 38. The only other "build this casino!" mod worth mentioning is "Rebuild the Bison Steve." That mod is much better in every regard, including professional-sounding voicework that doesn't have the "twenty-somethings recording lines in Skype" problem a lot of mods have.

I just updated my Old World Blues tweak mod. It now includes 6 .esps for various tweaks. They're all completely independent so you can just use one or several depending on what you want:

1. Changes the Valence Radii-Accentuators so that your hair doesn't disappear when you equip it.

2. Same as above, but changes it to BodyAddon3, so you can equip other headgear at the same time.

3. Lets you mod FIDO using mods for the K9000.

4. Adds an automatic stealth field to the fully upgraded stealth suit mk II.

5. Lets companions teleport to Big MT with you. You can also send companions there when you dismiss them.

6. Automatically adds more caps to the Sink CIU vendor if it gets low.

Nexus link

By the way, I'd like to have a thumbnail image to go with the mod, but I've been having an issue with my screenshots all looking strangely distorted. If someone could post a screenshot of #1 and/or #5 in action, it would really help me out.

Having just completed OWB, just wanted to pop in and say these are awesome and you are awesome for making these. Especially #5 and #6, those minor additions make the Sink the perfect home.

I'm using Vyntage Cass, or however it is stupidly misspelt. I downloaded this way back before I even played the game fully through, so there might be better now, but it was the only tolerable one back then.

Yeah that's the one I'm using for Veronica but I don't like his Cass (search for makeover on Nexus to find the mod we're talking about, btw). Way too young looking. I've given up on finding the one I used to use so I assume the author made it invisible. Instead I've taken to A Better Cass that was released recently on Nexus. It's nice without making her look young or anime.

Make sure you also don't have any mods activated that need the ESM as a parent. The game will automatically re-activate the ESM if that's the case, so even though you have it unchecked in FOMM, it will still be activated in the game (check your merge mod if you've got one!)

To who though ;_; Basically, going to the NifTools team and working together with them every time something like this poo poo pops up that's about the only thing we can do. I don't see Obsidian/Bethesda caring.

On the positive side, the stupid people doing this poo poo have stated they only half 3 or 4 tricks they can use to break stuff and one of them was references as a BSA hack and that should be a pretty easy one to get around. So if that's the case, that's 3 out of 4 we know about and can fix. The only mystery one is the fourth one, though at least now we know we have the support of the NifTools devs behind us now.

tl;dr: a few modders from F3U are starting to 'DRM' their work to break existing modding tools so you can't access the files.

Long explanation: The first version of this was a simple version removal from the header that you can add back in via hex editor. It's harmless and doesn't do anything to the engine; just the tools. The second version, however, nobody knows exactly yet what or how they're doing it but it's been confirmed to outright crash the engine if it's done 'improperly', while if done 'properly' it causes a slow degrade in performance and eventual crashes while using it. The author claims that it's irreversible, but we wrote something to reverse it. We also feel it could be causing a potential memory leak or something. The developer I talked to initially was surprised the engine was even loading/working with the poo poo they did to the file.

Yeah, well, the main guy doing it right now has two mods he's done it to - one is a port of clothing from a commercial game, and the other is all weapons from FPSBanana/MW2 with three original weapons he's done himself. Except those three weapons are nearly 40k polygons each, I poo poo you not. Out of spite, I've ripped out a bunch of the useless poo poo he had on there in an effort to cut down on the polycounts and included them in a separate container with a giant warning in the cabinets esp for The Armory. Needless to say, they will not be added to the leveled lists or anything. We've stopped one step short of re-releasing his stuff DRM free because we don't think his mods are really that good to be worth it, but I think it's enough if we can get the NifTools updated to neutralize it period.
