KingKapalone posted:Xenomorph said he backs up SHSHs from devices he doesn't even own, so they must not be unique to the device. I guess Cydia is how I can get one, but I don't see how. SHSH is very unique to each device. You just plug in the ECID and TinyUmbrella grabs the SHSH. - You never have to physically touch the device. TinyUmbrella lets you manually type in device information. - The device does not even need to be functional. It can be busted into a dozen pieces. You can still request and backup the SHSH from Apple. - What is installed on the device is not important at all. It doesn't matter if you're running 3.0 or 5.0. Apple is only* signing 4.3.4 now. (*Apple is will continue to sign 4.2.1 for the iPhone 3G, and they are still signing 4.1 for some devices, such as my 3GS.) Consider Cydia's functionality with SHSH busted. I wouldn't rely on it any more. Right now, I have at least 60 backed up SHSH blobs. They are local though. Cydia only has some of them. I just bought my wife a new iPad 2, and the first thing I did when I took the shrink wrap off was get the ECID and backup the SHSH. When I find people that don't understand or don't want to jailbreak, I tell them "let me back up your SHSH, just in case you change your mind and want to give it a try later". It only takes a minute, and it can "make your life easier" (as Cydia would say) at a later date.

Goddamn it, I guess I cant jailbreak my iPad 2 since I left it on 4.3.1. Do you all recommend I go ahead and go to 4.3.4 and wait, or stay where I am?

I'm a bit confused about backups. After reading the article linked in the op, it sounds like a backup is created when you sync with itunes, which I did. Just for good measure, I did a backup manually by right clicking the device. Does itunes keep only 1 backup of my ipad, that keeps getting overwritten? If I sync or make another backup after jailbreaking, will I lose my pre-jailbroken backup? Is jailbreaking even relevant to a backup? I'm mainly wondering if I need to do something special before the first sync after jailbreaking.

Read some of the stuff I've posted about SHSH (or what anyone has posted about SHSH blobs). It has nothing to do with what you're running. Your device doesn't even have to be functional. Also, it doesn't back up the SHSH from your device, it downloads it from Apple.com and backs it up to your local system. Even if you are still running 4.3.1 right now, when you go to back up your SHSH, it will download the 4.3.4 blob from Apple. That is what they are signing right now. Tip: Every time a new iOS version is released, back up your SHSH. It only takes like 5 minutes, and you'll never know when a certain iOS version will come in handy.

How do I get the 4.3.4 blob? I open TinyUmbrella and click Save SHSH and this comes up in the log. 07/20/2011 13:51:09.759 For version [iPhone4 4.3.4 (8K2)] - This device isn't eligible for the requested build. 07/20/2011 13:51:09.768 CYDIA DOES NOT HAVE YOUR SHSH FOR iPhone4 4.3.4 (8K2) THERE IS NO WAY FOR YOU TO GET THEM. SORRY. YOU ARE JUST TOO LATE.

I'm having a bit of a problem restoring from iOS 5 Beta 3 to 4.3.3. (I'm using TinyUmbrella with my saved blobs) At first I was having it restore almost all the way but then iTunes was giving an error 1013 and the device would just reboot into recovery mode and I would have to start all over. (I think I also got a 3xxx error as well) I did some research and used fixrecovery43.exe (from TinyUmbrella) and it WORKED but it looked like it was re-jailbreaking my phone again. I just want to go back to 4.3.3 non-jailbroken. Can I do something else to re-restore it and not have to use fixrecovery?

Although if you're looking to have a non-jailbroken device and have your 4.3.3 shsh saved, you might as well just install 4.3.4, since you can always go back if you want it jailbroken in the future.

Hmmm... that isn't working. It just reboots the device and it's still in recovery mode. EDIT: Do I have to be in DFU mode? I'm stuck in normal recovery mode. I understand what you're saying but I just can't seem to get it to work. I've entered DFU mode many times (using redsn0w, etc) but almost all of them say to turn the phone off first. I can't seem to turn the phone off since it's in the recovery loop...

Thanks - I did finally manage to get it into DFU mode. All the instructions I was reading said to count to 10 after the screen was black. Anyways - Why do I need to use fixrecovery to exit from the recovery loop? I've been doing some research and I think because my baseband was updated with the iOS 5 beta, that iTunes failed the baseband update of 4.3.3 and that caused a recovery loop. Fixrecovery uses Greenpois0n to "force" the restore to finish. I'm wondering though... did I only need to use fixrecovery because my baseband was updated? Why don't I see more posts about fixrecovery?

Since jail breaking I've noticed that when used alien blue to browse reddit if I open up a link in the app to a YouTube video it often says I need flash or an updated HTML browser. I can open it if I chose to open it in safari which then opens it in the YouTube player but it's a bit of a pain. I'm just wondering is it a case of alien blue being out of date now or if there is something that's been hosed up by a jailbreak app or something?

I don't use alien blue ($4 to browse reddit?) but I'm jailbroken and the free reddit app doesn't have that problem. Did you install any browser changer or YouTube link modifier apps?

I just wanted to pop in and say that I was able to jailbreak my 4.2.9 iPhone 4 with redsn0w. Problem is, if you want to reboot it you have to tether it and use redsn0w to reboot it. I just spent from 9 this evening to now to unfuck it, hahaha Just remember to boot it tethered, and you should be fine.

I recently jailbroke my iPad 2 and I installed 5 row keyboard, decided I didn't like it, and uninstalled it. Now, the hide keyboard button changed to some weird WM or W3 icon on it. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or it could be something other than 5 row keyboard. Google isn't finding me anything.

Is there any way to have my iPad be treated as an additional monitor for my desktop PC, but still stay in iOS mode? I already have the app store app display link, which allows the iPad to be used as a third monitor for my desktop, but it would be beyond awesome if I could continue to have it run iOS as normal but be able to use my normal keyboard and mouse to control it. Jailbroken iPad2, if it matters. I am guessing this is impossible but I figured it would be worth asking just in case.

So I finally submitted my Calendar Colors to big boss. Also, the github location is at: https://github.com/Richman777/iPhone-Calendar-Colors I also made a windows app that will back up your applications like angry birds or whatever. I know when I do a new jailbreak I want to do a clean install without a backup and it's always a PITA to manually find the documents or library folder for each app so I made something to automatically do it. It also overwrites the biteSMS icons with whatever you want (the pink icons suck), transfers SBSettings icons, and backs ups and restores your safari bookmarks. If anyone is interested I'll post the binaries and also put it up on github. I'm sort of interested in getting the cydia backup/restores by piping the output from your restore list so that may be doable. All the app does is execute ssh/sftp commands so it's nothing complicated. Don't really care if it's open source either. Actually was more interested in making the splash screen for it than it's actual functionality...

Alright, looks like Calendar Colors is live in Big Boss. Apparently there is some theme from ModMyi that is also called Calendar Colors - oh well. Check it out if you guys want. Simply lets you change the calendar highlights natively in the Settings.app.

FYI - there's a bug with the layout in the iPad. I could lie and say that it's Apples fault for keeping the UITableViewCell width static on the iPad and IPhone (it is) but I didn't actually go by the width. it's hard-coded. Already have a fix to handle the iPad but it's really just the layout. Functionality still works.

I think I know the answer to this already, but couldn't find anything definitive on it yet. I have an iPhone that's my personal device, but I have it synced up to my corporate network. If I jailbreak it, will my company know, or will they simply not allow me to sync anymore until I get an official image back on it?
