Saw Season of the Witch tonight. Wasn't bad. Damned sure wasn't fantastic, but it was watchable. Kinda odd that Nic Cage keeps his accent in the movie steadier than Robin Hood's Kevin Costner did. I am of the firm belief that most anything that contains Ron Perlman is worth watching though, so that may color my tastes a bit. Kinda reminded me a bit of Soloman Kane, so if you liked that one, you would probably dig this one.

Total Film did a piece on the Final Destination 5 footage shown at Comic Con. http://www.totalfilm.com/news/comic-con-2011-final-destination-5-bridge-scene-revealed quote:The footage aired in a purpose-built portable cinema that only served to crank up the claustrophobic feeling of escalating horror.

I've seen grave encounters recently, the Vicious Brothers even presented their film and basically said that they didn't know that Euros weren't aware that telereality shows about ghost hunters existed... But I don't think you need to know that type of show to watch the movie. It wasn't the best movie I've ever seen but it had some ideas. If you like that type of movie (Found footage) I guess you'll enjoy it. Having said that my GF was very disappointed cause they advertised the movie as horror / comedy and we had a hard time finding the comedy part.

Something about the atmosphere of Lake Mungo really got to me. All the slow builds and red herrings and then THAT scene as you say really brought it home. I've talked a few people into seeing it without any details and they all came back pissed off the next day, not expecting quite what they got (in a good way).

Also liked Lake Mungo. Obviously I knew it was a movie, but it felt like I was going through a family's private photos and videos and memories, it felt kind of weird and uncomfortable, in a way. And THAT scene was asfnajghaskfaksfvjmske. Didn't someone say that if you look closely you can see that she IS in fact in every single photo, and not just photoshopped in by the brother? Because I never noticed and Frozen had a good concept but the wolves were so... unwolflike.

Right near the end all I could think was it would be so loving cool if they revealed she was actually in every scene/photo and we just haven't noticed yet ... and then they go and do it. On one hand, I guess it's bad to be expecting or hoping for that sort of 'twist' before it actually happens, but on the other hand it was done very well and justified - in my view - the slower parts of the movie.

Saw Case 39 yesterday. It wasn't awful, but it was kinda silly. The premise is girl gets rescued from her murderous parents by a social worker played by Renée Zellweger, but it turns out she's the evil one! I also just realized the kid's name is also Lilith. Getting creative I see. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it if you have something else worth seeing, but it's not boring, which in my view is the worst sin a movie can make. It's just not a very compelling story when you know whats going to happen. That said, I'd be interested to hear what anyone thinks who went in without knowing the plot ahead of time. By last scene, do you mean the end of the documentary with them running around the woods and THAT THING or the scene after in the kitchen? Because I agree on the first, but I thought the second was really effective. The wife setting herself (and the house) on fire genuinely horrified me.

Ornamented Death posted:I would guess when you see the footage on the cellphone, with the zombie-fied girl wandering around and being scary. Yep. It's the only scene in the movie that really warrants CAPS, since the movie doesn't really "do" jump scares. Also, it's not a zombified girl, it's a vision of her own death, which, to me, is wayyy scarier.

Can someone please explain Lake Mungo to me? I followed it, but I don't *get* it. So the whole point is she hangs around after dying because she wanted people to know that she knew she was going to die and was getting boned by the neighbor?

I guess I was just confused because it's a ghost movie where the ghost never does anything and there is no resolution at the end because when Alice was talking to Ray she sees her mother walking out as if she doesn't see her anymore, so what I took away from it was that the ghost was still there, the family just got their closure so they left.

Yeah the description of The Woman doesn't make it sound like it's gore for the sake of gore like Serbian Film or torture porn like Hostel. On the other hand, I hated Martyrs and Inside so maybe this movie isn't for me anyway. I'm not sure what that guy's freakout was about but I'm feeling PR stunt, personally. e: Oh, gently caress, I've seen The Woods. I IMDB'd it and immediately recognized it.
