I'd recommend The Tunnel Movie. You can download it for free (legally), so there's really no excuse not to watch it.

EDIT: The best part of The Tunnel is that it's all shot in REAL abandoned tunnels, not some big budget Hollywood (Aussie-wood?) production set. It really lends an extra feeling of creepiness.

I can't find a free download link on the website; only links to buy it on DVD and iTunes. Looks good, though.

Saw Season of the Witch tonight.

Wasn't bad. Damned sure wasn't fantastic, but it was watchable. Kinda odd that Nic Cage keeps his accent in the movie steadier than Robin Hood's Kevin Costner did.

I am of the firm belief that most anything that contains Ron Perlman is worth watching though, so that may color my tastes a bit.

Kinda reminded me a bit of Soloman Kane, so if you liked that one, you would probably dig this one.

Then you should go watch Black Death. It's a little similar to Season of the Witch in some ways but a much better film.

IS IT WRONG THAT I ONCE WROTE A HORROR STORY ABOUT THE BUDDIES? YOU KNOW, THE TALKING PUPPIES?
Total Film did a piece on the Final Destination 5 footage shown at Comic Con.

http://www.totalfilm.com/news/comic-con-2011-final-destination-5-bridge-scene-revealed

quote:

The footage aired in a purpose-built portable cinema that only served to crank up the claustrophobic feeling of escalating horror.

Final Destination has become a horror franchise synonymous with elaborate, cataclysmic scenes of utter devastation, and this new Final Destination pulls no punches.

Set on a suspension bridge, the film's opening scene unfolds as building work on the structure causes hairline fractures to rip the road apart and send vehicles plummeting into the water below.

Our main protagonists Nicholas D’Agosto and Emma Bell (along with their doomed friends) attempt to escape the carnage, dodging various pitfalls as the bridge cracks and falls apart.

Others aren’t so lucky in their death-dodging, ending up variously skewered (one girl is spiked onto the mast of a passing boat in a genius moment of brilliant 3D), boiled (by spilled oil) and speared by metal poles.

The film was shot in 3D (no post-conversion here), and this scene takes full advantage of the medium – the sequence really is eye-popping (literally in some grisly cases), and is definitely one of the better examples of 3D done right.

It’s easily the best disaster scene the franchise has cooked up since the second movie’s highway pile-up, and certainly bodes well for the rest of the film.

Loved Lake Mungo here. It built really well to a climax that, well, on paper isn't really that scary, but works so well. It didn't hurt that my friend and I were watching it with our girlfriends who were suitably freaked the whole time and exploded at THAT part.

I think Lake Mungo works but I don't think it's particularly scary. It's just a kind of half baked idea that's presented in a really interesting way.

I've seen Blair Witch, I've seen Quarantine (and I'm borrowing Rec 1 and 2 from a friend, haven't watched them yet), and I've seen Incident at Lake County. Any others that are worth my time?

I've seen grave encounters recently, the Vicious Brothers even presented their film and basically said that they didn't know that Euros weren't aware that telereality shows about ghost hunters existed... But I don't think you need to know that type of show to watch the movie.

It wasn't the best movie I've ever seen but it had some ideas. If you like that type of movie (Found footage) I guess you'll enjoy it. Having said that my GF was very disappointed cause they advertised the movie as horror / comedy and we had a hard time finding the comedy part.

Something about the atmosphere of Lake Mungo really got to me. All the slow builds and red herrings and then THAT scene as you say really brought it home. I've talked a few people into seeing it without any details and they all came back pissed off the next day, not expecting quite what they got (in a good way).

Also liked Lake Mungo. Obviously I knew it was a movie, but it felt like I was going through a family's private photos and videos and memories, it felt kind of weird and uncomfortable, in a way.

And THAT scene was asfnajghaskfaksfvjmske.

Not only is this true, it's also what - in my opinion - totally saves the movie from being lackluster. Right near the end all I could think was it would be so loving cool if they revealed she was actually in every scene/photo and we just haven't noticed yet ... and then they go and do it.

On one hand, I guess it's bad to be expecting or hoping for that sort of 'twist' before it actually happens, but on the other hand it was done very well and justified - in my view - the slower parts of the movie.

Saw Case 39 yesterday. It wasn't awful, but it was kinda silly. The premise is girl gets rescued from her murderous parents by a social worker played by Renée Zellweger, but it turns out she's the evil one! I also just realized the kid's name is also Lilith. Getting creative I see.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend it if you have something else worth seeing, but it's not boring, which in my view is the worst sin a movie can make. It's just not a very compelling story when you know whats going to happen. That said, I'd be interested to hear what anyone thinks who went in without knowing the plot ahead of time.

EDIT: Fixed some bad sentence structure.

By last scene, do you mean the end of the documentary with them running around the woods and THAT THING or the scene after in the kitchen? Because I agree on the first, but I thought the second was really effective. The wife setting herself (and the house) on fire genuinely horrified me.

Both kind of.

The first one yeah, and I agree with you on the second but when the little girl shows up at the very end it kinda takes the whole ending to :jerkbag: territory for me.

Yep. It's the only scene in the movie that really warrants CAPS, since the movie doesn't really "do" jump scares. Also, it's not a zombified girl, it's a vision of her own death, which, to me, is wayyy scarier.

She's...a ghost. What do you need explained, it's a supernatural movie.

I guess I was just confused because it's a ghost movie where the ghost never does anything and there is no resolution at the end because when Alice was talking to Ray she sees her mother walking out as if she doesn't see her anymore, so what I took away from it was that the ghost was still there, the family just got their closure so they left.

Yeah the description of The Woman doesn't make it sound like it's gore for the sake of gore like Serbian Film or torture porn like Hostel. On the other hand, I hated Martyrs and Inside so maybe this movie isn't for me anyway. I'm not sure what that guy's freakout was about but I'm feeling PR stunt, personally.

How is Roman? I've been told it's quite similar to May. Which sounds very interesting since it's directed by Angela Bettis and Lucky McKee plays the title role (in May it was the other way around for those who don't know).
