If only there was a thread you could read that had this sort of information in it. If only. If only... ps. it's shite.

The characters are interesting enough and the stories have been far more intriguing than the first episode's. I laughed out loud a fair number of times during last week's episode.

I seriously don't get why everybody hates Sirens. I find it hilarious, there's a lot of clever dialogue. Also Rashid seems to be getting more intelligent. It's weird.

Bah, there's a late night ad for gay people with problems that uses the same Scala choir version of Radiohead's Creep that was in the trailer for The Social Network. The song's amazing, and while the ad is for a good cause, every time i now hear it, i can't get the image of a repressed homosexual man kicking a skanky looking prostitute out of his car, which is parked behind a dumpster, in a dingy back alley after she just sucked him off. edit: Also, this Catfish thing on More4 is pretty drat good. It feels a little like goon internet detective, the movie. Kin fucked around with this message at 22:55 on Jul 26, 2011 |

I can totally understand how people think it was faked although I prefer to give them the benefit of the doubt. A lot of people think they only started filming halfway through their story, and filled in the rest afterwards. It's a good enough conspiracy. I know we're told they're film students, which you're led to believe is their excuse for filming every minor uninteresting facet of each others' lives, but they'd be doing that all day long. Do they film each other talking to real life girls too? I think filming those bits as a video blog would've worked better and made more sense. "Hey Abby, this is me opening your latest painting, so you can see my honest reaction!" I rewatched the start of it last night, and I was amazed at how tense it was. Hovering over pictures of people until their name appears felt really cold, like everyone involved was going to turn up dead.

I'm wouldn't be too bothered if it turned out to be staged, I really enjoyed it. The build up of tension is fantastic. I think they admitted to filming a few of the message reading scenes afterwards.

American comedians. They did that Tom Goes To The Mayor and Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job which was on adult swim, I think. They're okay, I find them a little boring and my mate used to cane them for a few months so I'm a little burned out for that kind of bullshit. Anyone watch episode 2 of The Hour? Catfish dudes, I recommend Capturing The Friedmans. It's a documentary made by the men who produced Catfish, except there's no fakery, just an expertly put together documentary about a man who bought some child porn from a foreign website that will leave your jaw hanging.

Didn't realise Friedmans was the Catfish guys. It's far superior, I felt Catfish was a massive letdown that might've been interesting 15 years ago and if I'd never used the Internet before. My reaction was simply 'Is that it?', was hardly a shocking revelation.

Anyone catch Beaver Falls, that new E4 thing? I hope not because it was an unrelenting shitfest. The concept had potential but it was so incredibly squandered by their almost complete inability to cast anyone remotely likable. Maybe one character didn't make me squirm with hatred.

Just watched Our War: Ambushed. That was a hell of a thing. I don't know if I'll be watching more of the series, because it's (obviously) some pretty heavy stuff, but it's certainly a striking view into modern warfare.

Not really TV, but I just caught a preview of Richard Herring's new show 'What Is Love, Anyway?'. It's easily his finest stand-up show; very funny, and even genuinely moving at one point.

He's always bandied about along with Stewart Lee because they used to be a double act but I've always assumed that he was nowhere near as good as Lee these days. Certainly he hasn't got close to the acclaim that Stewart Lee has so I've always thought of him as the shitter half that didn't go on to do much

Herring can be and is very funny, but he's a bit... odd. In the head. He also looks exactly like my housemate's younger brother, who looks like someone stuck a rubbish mustache on a fat 12 year old.

Both times I saw Herring he went into a twenty minute long unscripted ramble that probably only made sense to himself. Enjoyed both shows mind, and I like the fact they often shoot his DVDs at my local. Bit gutted I can't go tonight to see the new show, but am stuck in work all evening. On a side note, did anyone else ever watch Satellite City ? I'm not sure it was ever shown out of Wales, but it was actually pretty funny. Wasn't a fan of the show Boyd Clack did recently, but my mother found it hilarious. I used to see him walking the streets a few years back. He looked a bit crazed.

That's what made it so funny to me. The lack of polish and reliance on pretty weakly defined characters means it only works because it's aware of these weaknesses and plays to them, rather than trying to ignore them. It's post-post-post modern comedy. Plus Dan Tetsel and (TV's) Emma Kennedy are really funny in it too. I think he's great. While his act is certainly different to Stewart Lee's, you can absolutely tell they have had a lot of influence on each other. Herrings "two old people on the bonfire" bears a striking resemblance to some of Stu's two character conversations, not in a plagarised way but in a "these guys developed their styles together and can't avoid being similar" way. They both have that introspective and self referential streak too. Herring is probably a bit of an acquired taste, he's a bit brasher and less polished. gofasterstripe.com does a bunch of his shows on DVD, I personally like Meage a Un (which is a bit of a grab bag) and Someone Likes Yoghurt, and I've seen Christ on a bike and Hitler Mustache live, both of which I really liked. Hopefully I can catch What is Love on the post Edinburgh tour.

Richard Herring is definitely a different kettle of fish to Lee. Both are excellent, but Herring does tend to go for the more crude style than Lee. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-aVRCEEWRY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwEi5Dpq6zs The second one is from Hitler Moustache, his latest stand-up show. Very, very good.

In Penn & Teller, what was the deal with the mentalist guy who said it wasn't an "instant stooge"? He very obviously wrote something on his hand when he pretended his hand was a book - you can even see the gray object in his hand during a freeze frame. If it wasn't him writing "BRICK", then what was it? The dinner one pissed me off, I hope P&T didn't let that guy continue. All 3 cards were the same, each containing a message for all three tables, and each message has a "YOUR NAME HERE" part. There just wasn't even a trick anywhere. It seems like the way to win this show is to do a really bad trick with a bunch of obvious flaws each of which could explain how you did The Critical Thing. P&T can only decide on one of them, and they will probably guess the wrong one.

I've said it before but pretty much every time I've seen Stewart Lee or Richard Herring they've both done a section where they're essentially having a conversation with themselves using the other's persona. They're both really great (but different) stand-ups now, and I think if they did some kind of reunion (the TMWRNJ one doesn't count), it could be fantastic.
