Well, motorcycles always do rallies to support things. And he wasn't a cop and what he did was just a little overzealous? Really?

I picked the ninjette as my favorite and I love their descriptions of rev ranges. High is also known as "where I rev to start moving".

HAH! I did the same thing. I'm pretty sure people who consider the Ninja 250 their favorite bike aren't really the core customers for Indian Motorcycles.

I posted this on facebook, but with current events in this thread I think I'll post it here too. It's not too politic-y, but it does sum up the difference between America and Norway in the face of an act of terrorism pretty well.

“The Norwegian response to violence is more democracy, more openness and greater political participation,” Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg insisted at a news conference. . . .

Stoltenberg strongly defended the right to speak freely -- even if it includes extremist views such as Breivik’s.

“We have to be very clear to distinguish between extreme views, opinions — that’s completely legal, legitimate to have. What is not legitimate is to try to implement those extreme views by using violence,” he said in English.

I dream of a day when America can handle terrorism with the courage and conviction that Norway does. We know that this is the correct solution, and that changing your behavior, that allowing the terrorism to interfere with the process of progressive thought and tolerance is letting them win, but we lack the conviction to stand up for that. :(

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

Kind of puts me in mind of the end of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". I realize that sounds horribly trite, but what I'm getting at is that it's the same sort of attitude. This conviction that their conception of how society should work is correct, and drat if they'll let one deluded soul break that, no matter how many people he's hurt - that's straight up admirable.

I don't think the Canadian government would have the strength of will to do that. I know we didn't back in the 70s, when Trudeau - "Just watch me" - suspended habeus corpus in response to Quebec Separatist terrorism.

For some reason, I expected an article and decided that I didn't want to spend the time just to find out what engines they plan on using. It would be awesome if they would make an homage to their earlier four cylinder bike, but I imagine that the options were mostly v-twins, is that right? The last time Indian was revived, they did have a unique look, but still not too far from the harley idea.

I'm not too good with this stuff either, so I'll just say that it's a horrible tragedy what happened and it is truly amazing how the government up there can handle even the worst of things with a cool head and a caring heart. Norway really seems to set the standard for how a country should be run.

I was absolutely humbled by the way the Norweigan government responded to it. Just 100% pure, honest, responsible and intelligent. Leading people the way they should be led, instead of pandering to base fears and stoking outrage for ulterior motives.

On motorcyclical matters: this is probably a long shot, but can anyone recommend a good bike-focused mechanic in Melbourne? I only recently discovered that getting a vehicle serviced at a dealership is like flushing money down the toilet.

They need to ABSOLUTELY ENSURE that they market it properly though. Every single small displacement motorcycle is marketed either as "For women!" or "For beginners", forever stigmatizing it with experienced riders, men, or both. Sure there are a handful of people that can appreciate bikes for what they are (I think every single one of them posts here), but the buying public needs to see "FUN" "EXCITING", "HANDLES GREAT", and then in tiny subtexts at the bottom fine print it says "oh yeah also good for beginners".

I think the entire motorcycle marketing industry in the US needs a revamp, but thats a post for another time.

I'm definitely interested. Looks like the 125 makes around 15hp, expectations on the 200 are 20hp, so would ~35 be unreasonable for a 350 single?

If these start hitting market in fall '12 (and aren't double the price of a Ninja/CBR250) I'll be lined up for a demo ride.

I had a fondle (unfortunately no test ride) of the 125 at the dealer a few months ago when I stopped by to buy some shims and filters. It is without doubt the coolest 125cc road bike I have seen; and I live in a place where we have every kind of 125cc bike you can imagine, because they are the first bike you can get when you are 16.

Spent Saturday touring the Barber Museum with my Dad, spent about 5 hours walking around. Some amazing bikes there, a ton of history and some cool and failed designs (Gurney Alligator). I really liked the old GP bikes and ended up taking a ton of pictures of simple things like company logos.

Was nice hanging out talking bikes. Even found out my uncle has a CBX that I can ride next time I'm in Wisconsin and there might be an old airhead BMW waiting for me that I fixed for a friend ~8 years ago.

Friday and Sunday were spent riding in the mountains. He was very slow in the curves Thursday night and Friday morning but by the end of the ride Sunday he was doing better. Would have rode a lot more but it is too drat hot.
