Well, you would have lost it anyway because you got out Addie'd but that's still one of the worst nightmare innings I've seen. All singles, no walks, after the first two batters recorded outs. That's ridiculous.

At the very least he's a ML backup/defensive replacement/bench guy. He'll wind up with a decent slg and avg, but he'll probably obp sub-300 most years.

Still, I'd absolutely sign him for short money. I love ridiculous skillsets like that, though.

Oh, there's plenty of other balls in the sea. Plus, you're not very talented.
Alright, here's what all I ended up coming up with:

'07 Cubs: Mordecai's Revenge

The first of two teams with Three Fucker. This is by far the team I'm most bearish on. I couldn't find any team that I really liked because of that loving 35m from the team rule. So many teams were perfect if that were, say, 30m. I settled on this since Mordecai and Pfiester should be very good, hopefully they can carry the rest of the mediocrity. The hitting normalizes up about 60-70 points of OPS so that helps.

Doubling Up: from Oughts to Nineties

This is pretty standard fare. Doubles hitters. Cookie pitchers. '95 Boggs. Not much to say.

Rock Raines and the Commerce Comets

Three Fucker team #2. Again, the pitching is on the nose. I didn't really do much searching as far as circumventing the defensive requirements, everyone meets the rules at their position. I built the pitching first, got it as close to 45m as possible, then tried to find the cheapest OBP/OPS guys I could. This was actually a fair bit different but I realized three guys I was using were actually 19 points for the defense and not 20 so I had to do a last minute rework.

The Jim Rice Game

:siren: Jim Rice! :siren:

Cuellar, Christy, Clemens and Dutch. Cuellar was a godsend because the entire '69 Orioles team had competent players. 1B, 2B, SS, OF, three good relievers, a few bench bats, I could fit him in with pretty much anyone. Clemens was a lock because I hated pretty much ever 3B in the field so I had to have Boggs. I tried and tried to get '14 Tris on the team but just couldn't make it work.

Eddie Collins' Hit Squad

This kind of speaks for itself. We've already discussed the merits of Collins and Speaker. Bishop at SS is a bit of a gamble but had to be done.

Yeast 4.0

I tried and tried and TRIED to get '11 Cobb on to this team but it just wasn't happening. Jackson will fill in for him admirably. I didn't want to sacrifice pitching quality in favor of premium offense so there are some value picks here, most notably Chooch. I also wanted my defense up the middle strategy to help get some outs with all the offense, hence Molitor and Appling. Hasegawa probably appears to be an odd choice but I had very specific criteria I wanted for my last bullpen slot and he was pretty much the only guy who fit.

If it helps '03 Hasegawa is actually doing really well in my Rule V. (sample size!!!)

Ivan Drago
Jan 17, 2003

My WISC strategy:
1. Can I use '08 Addie Joss?
2. Can I use '89 Howard Johnson?

It turns out in fact that you can use them fairly often. From there, I'd fill out my starting rotation and lineup, which as you can see below left my bullpen as an afterthought on a majority of these teams.

70m - Single Season Half Team
I went with the '89 Mets for this one and actually found it fairly simple to built around them. They have a ton of guys with middling salaries which led to a good deal of flexibility, but also meant I needed 11 guys just to cover the $35m minimum. I left out Magadan and Strawberry simply due to the flexibility. The offense is mediocre but they can cause problems if they get on base due to their speed, like many players from that time period. The pitching is fairly weak but that's the price you pay for HoJo and fast guys I guess.

80m - Two Decades
I didn't put a huge amount of thought into my decades. I started with 1900's pitching for Joss and 1980's hitting since I had already finished my 70m team and scoured the decade during that process. The offense is much the same as the 70m team. The SP are fine but the bullpen is pretty rough.

90m - Pitching and Defense
My only offensive strategy to speak of was squeezing Foxx in at 3B due to his availability through arm strength and having Lange in the OF due to his 1B defense, which probably isn't that big a deal anyway. There's not a whole lot you can control on offense so I focused on pitching and took pretty much every cookie pitcher you can find just for fun. It's almost comical.

100m - 4-SP & Teammates
Like most people, this one took me the longest just due to playing around with so many different options. I finally settled on going with a 3-man rotation with my last SP simply being selected for his teammates. It's the first chance I've had to use Babe Ruth in any league so I've got that going for me. Unfortunately none of my pitchers had quality bullpen teammates so that's gonna cost me. Pennock will get lit up but I think he was worth the choice to grab Ruth, Gehrig and Lazzeri.

110m - Veteran Two-Season Twist
Wade Boggs was the first guy I thought of in this theme and ultimately the veteran I chose. I tried out dozens of others though like Nig Clarke, George Burns, Ty Cobb, Addie, Maddux, etc. Ultimately I settled on Boggs though twisting his '86 Red Sox season with his '97 Yankees season. I'm not too happy about Tom Seaver and that Paul O'Neill season costs way too much, but overall I'm fairly happy here. An alternative was to use an earlier Boggs season to open up Yaz, Eckersley, Jim Rice and others, but I thought Clemens and Sambito trumped that slightly.

120m - Let's Get Some Hits
Not much to speak of here aside from the fact I really wanted Sam Thompson in my lineup to fill one of the .400 spots at a reasonable price. I managed to grab another Babe Ruth and the first time I've had a chance to use '41 Williams, so I'm pretty excited about that. The pitching had a focus on low OAV, although I'm not sure how much it will help in this league. I took a gamble on Nolan Ryan to try and strike a few people out. It's one of his lower walk seasons but I'm afraid that will still come back to bite me. I hope I drafted enough innings.

Overall I don't think I spent enough time crunching numbers and would be shocked if I made it to the second round.

Goodness no, now that wouldn't do at all!

I should probably know the answer to this by now, but is there a way to set Sparky to use certain pitchers more often? I usually just throw everyone good into Setup A and really crappy guys in mopup, since Sparky's terrible at the LH Specialist/RH Specialist stuff.

In my RC&C team through 12 games Sparky's used everyone but my mopup 200k guy more than 1983 Dan Quisenberry, and I have no idea why since he's Setup A, not the closer, and I have him set to be able to come in at any inning.

Mordecai has its own distinct personality, so by those merits I would say no. RNL is in a weird, malleable stage where a concentrated influx could move it to a more sociable private league. There's no drama, but when the original people (and commish) cycled out they kind of left the boat and took the sails with them.

For actual selling points, the draft pools on average are stronger than in other leagues. Whether that's luck, I don't know.
